Download or read book Coastal Environments in the West of Ireland written by John B. Roney and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-11-16 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-authored study explores how the natural sciences and the humanities together can understand the connections between the natural environment, the built environment, and the cultural heritage of communities along the west coast of Ireland. Knowledge of the sea and marine life, and what they mean to humanity is dependent on both scientific study and local knowledge, which, in turn, can lead to a greater commitment to sustainability. Until the 1950s, there was little government support for scientific research, nor an interest in helping fisheries beyond near shore catch. Irish fisheries remained small, underfunded, and had difficulty accessing international markets. However, as this book shows, Ireland’s cultural heritage demonstrates a deep appreciation for the coastal environment and a sense of place. This is preserved in the Irish language, in poetry, story and music, and in the ways the Irish lived with an often-wild coastal topography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1988, this book aims to provide keys to the study of Gothicism in British and American literature. It gathers together much material that had not been cited in previous works of this kind and secondary works relevant to literary Gothicism — biographies, memoirs and graphic arts. Part one cites items pertaining to significant authors of Gothic works and part two consists of subject headings, offering information about broad topics that evolve from or that have been linked with Gothicism. Three indexes are also provided to expedite searches for the contents of the entries. This book will be of interest to students of literature.

Download or read book Index to the London Magazine written by Frank P. Riga and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was originally published in 1978. The London Magazine is briefly told in the accomplisments and failures of its four editors, and during the fourteen months of his editorship, 1820-21, John Scott succeeded in establishing the London as one of the finest literary periodicals of the nineteenth century. John Taylor, the second editor, maintained the high quality of the magazine by securing many excellent writers. But by the end of 1825, the first year of Henry Southern's editorship, the magazine had lost most of its distinguished writers. When Charles night began editing the London in 1828, its great period was already a memory. This book presents a brief history of the magazine alongside the index.
