Nicole Evans has spent the last year and a half of her life having this same conversation with God. Over and over. Quite honestly, Nicole has been talking so loudly in fact she isn't hearing God whisper back to her " Just wait, I have a love planned for you that will surpass everything you thought you wanted." After the demise of her relationship with long-time boyfriend DonTravious ,Nicole thought God had truly blessed her the day Kendrick Taylor walked into her life, her prayers for a lasting love had been answered. Life with him was bliss until he walked out of her life without a second thought leaving her more broken and alone than she'd ever felt. Nicole resigned herself to the fact she was going to be alone. She was tired of looking for love and only being left out in the cold. She was content to mourn the love she'd lost…or rather never had with a now happily married Kendrick. Book excerpt: Daniels’ Orchestral Music is the gold standard for all orchestral professionals—from conductors, librarians, programmers, students, administrators, and publishers, to even instructors—seeking to research and plan an orchestral program, whether for a single concert or a full season. This sixth edition, celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the original edition, has the largest increase in entries for a new edition of Orchestral Music: 65% more works (roughly 14,050 total) and 85% more composers (2,202 total) compared to the fifth edition. Individual appendices make it easy to browse works with chorus, solo voices, or solo instruments. Other appendices list orchestral works by instrumentation and duration, as well as works intended for youth concerts. Also included are significant anniversaries of composers, composer groups for thematic programming, a title index, an introduction to Nieweg charts, essential bibliography, internet sources, institutions and organizations, and a directory of publishers necessary for the orchestra professional. This trusted work used around the globe is a must-have for orchestral professionals, whether conductors or orchestra librarians, administrators involved in artistic planning, music students considering orchestral conducting, authors of program notes, publishers and music dealers, and instructors of conducting.
Download or read book A Good Natured Riot written by Charles K. Wolfe and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2015-11-28 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award Winner of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award On November 28, 1925, a white-bearded man sat before one of Nashville radio station WSM's newfangled carbon microphones to play a few old-time fiddle tunes. Uncle Jimmy Thompson played on the air for an hour that night, and throughout the region listeners at their old crystal sets suddenly perked up. Back in Nashville the response at the offices of National Life Insurance Company, which owned radio station WSM ("We Shield Millions"), was dramatic; phone calls and telegrams poured into the station, many of them making special requests. It was not long before station manager George D. Hay was besieged by pickers and fiddlers of every variety, as well as hoedown bands, singers, and comedians—all wanting their shot at the Saturday night airwaves. "We soon had a good-natured riot on our hands," Hay later recalled. And, thus, the Opry was born. Or so the story goes. In truth, the birth of the Opry was a far more complicated event than even Hay, "the solemn old Judge," remembered. The veteran performers of that era are all gone now, but since the 1970s pioneering country music historian Charles K. Wolfe has spent countless hours recording the oral history of the principals and their families and mining archival materials from the Country Music Foundation and elsewhere to understand just what those early days were like. The story that he has reconstructed is fascinating. Both a detailed history and a group biography of the Opry's early years, A Good-Natured Riot provides the first comprehensive and thoroughly researched account of the personalities, the music, and the social and cultural conditions that were such fertile ground for the growth of a radio show that was to become an essential part of American culture. Wolfe traces the unsure beginnings of the Opry through its many incarnations, through cast tours of the South, the Great Depression, commercial sponsorship by companies like Prince Albert Tobacco, and the first national radio linkups. He gives colorful and engaging portraits of the motley assembly of the first Opry casts—amateurs from the hills and valleys surrounding Nashville, like harmonica player Dr. Humphrey Bate ("Dean of the Opry") and fiddler Sid Harkreader, virtuoso string bands like the Dixieliners, colorful hoedown bands like the Gully Jumpers and the Fruit Jar Drinkers, the important African American performer DeFord Bailey, vaudeville acts and comedians like Lasses and Honey, through more professional groups such as the Vagabonds, the Delmore Brothers, Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys, and perennial favorite Roy Acuff and his Smoky Mountain Boys. With dozens of wonderful photographs and a complete roster of every performer and performance of these early Opry years, A Good-Natured Riot gives a full and authoritative portrayal of the colorful beginnings of WSM's barn dance program up to 1940, by which time the Grand Ole Opry had found its national audience and was poised to become the legendary institution that it remains to this day.
Download or read book Listen Up written by Brent M. Gault and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "All people respond to music through listening. Since this music behavior is such a universal part of life, and the skills fostered through critical listening to music can transfer to many other areas, emphasizing listening in a given music curriculum is logical. Children learn actively through direct experience with given concepts. Because of this, it makes sense to approach listening instruction actively by using other music behaviors (singing, moving, chanting, creating) and aural, visual, and kinesthetic learning modes as a way to develop a deeper connection with musical material while fostering music skills and introducing or reinforcing music concepts. Listen Up! includes sample experiences that provide an opportunity for children to listen to musical selections while also fostering music skills and reinforcing given music concepts (rhythm, melody, form) that are prominent in those selections. In addition to providing an overview of the planning process for developing these types of lessons, and including sample experiences for 23 specific pieces, the collection also contains PowerPoint presentations to accompany each experience that provide material students can view and respond to as they listen." -- Provided by publisher.

Who in the hell is this? “ Is this in regards to your food stamp or benefit case with us? Is Tameka working your case?” “ No this is strictly personal. Look is she here or not? Shit I already told you my stamps and my check was straight!” Aww SHIT! It suddenly dawned on Meka just who the fuck this was! I know Antonio's baby mama ain’t have nerve enough to come up to my job! The last thing I need is to be without my job and I'm in the middle of house hunting! “ You know what? I think if you have any issues with Antonio you may want to take those up with him. If Antonio ended your relationship. You need to discuss it with him. Not me.” “ Oh you'd like to think that wouldn't you?” Shantina spat. Her eyes narrowing, throwing daggers at Meka. “ No bitch imma deal with you. Woman to fuckin' woman! Antonio came into my life and changed it. Download or read book Leonard Bernstein and His Young People s Concerts written by Alicia Kopfstein-Penk and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-01-22 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leonard Bernstein touched millions of lives as composer, conductor, teacher, and activist. He frequently visited homes around the world through the medium of television, particularly through his fifty-three award-winning Young People’s Concerts (1958-1972), which at their height were seen by nearly ten million in over forty countries. Originally designed for young viewers but equally attractive to eager adults, Bernstein’s brilliance as a teacher shined brightly in his televised presentations. And yet, despite the light touch of the “maestro,” the innocence of his audience, and the joyousness of each show’s topic, the turbulence of the times would peek through. In this first in-depth look at the series, Alicia Kopfstein-Penk’s Leonard Bernstein and His Young People’s Concerts illustrates how the cultural, social, political, and musical upheavals of the long sixties impacted Bernstein’s life and his Young People’s Concerts. Responding to trends in corporate sponsorship, censorship, and arts programming from the Golden Age of Television into the 1970s, the Young People’s Concerts would show the impact of and reflect the social and cultural politics of the Cold War, Vietnam, the Civil Rights and Women’s Movements, and the Counterculture. Bernstein cheerfully bridged classical and popular tastes, juxtaposing the Beatles with Mozart even as he offered personal, televised pleas for peace and unity. At the same time, the concerts reflect Bernstein’s troubled relationship as a professional musician with the dominance of atonality and his quest to nurture American music. Anyone who enjoys the oeuvre of Leonard Bernstein, has watched his Young People’s Concerts, or is passionate about the history of the long sixties will find in Leonard Bernstein and His Young People’s Concerts a story of all three captured in this monumental study.
