Book excerpt: To have a story published is a joy beyond comprehension. This is my second book. To have someone read it, like it and ask for more is a blessing beyond my wildest dreams. I think with this story I have solidified a style for what I write. My dream is to have a story made into a film. With each story, I also adapt it to a motion picture script because in my mind it's playing that way as I write it. I am determined to make it happen someday, God willing. For now.... Enjoy this story and realize I write because I love life and feel that no one should be violated from the cowards that lay in the shadows. The weak, meek and young should be protected at all costs. My stories are fiction but my beliefs are real. Leo Greco (the main character) was not going away upon his retirement from his police job, he was just moving to another branch of law enforcement. Only this time God was his boss. One of the commandments is, “Thou shall not kill”, to Leo Greco that didn't mean much. To him, an eye for an eye was a better fit. If you dare to rape, abuse, kill, rob, threaten, beat or drug a weaker person. If you got out of jail and did it again. If you laughed at the laws you abused because you know you'd be able to commit crimes again. Chances are you'd meet your destiny. Chances are you'd see why you were about to die. The HIT SQUAD always gave you a reason before you were killed. No person was to be hit without knowing why he was about to die. That rule was instilled by Mr. Leo Greco. That rule was followed by all.

Book excerpt: “Action adventure icon” Mack Bolan, aka the Executioner, is back—and this time he’s got backup (Los Angeles Times). After Mafia pressure destroyed his family, ace sniper Mack Bolan left the jungles of Southeast Asia to declare a new war on the home front. A one-man army, he wiped out the mob in his Massachusetts hometown. That was just the beginning. Hunted by the police, tracked by the FBI, and carrying a price on his head, Bolan is on the move. After crossing paths with an old war buddy in Los Angeles, the Executioner devises a plan. He’s going to round up the best sharpshooters, scouts, demo experts, and hard-core killers, and clean up the West Coast. Ten ruthless soldiers in all, forged in the fires of Vietnam . . . The Executioner’s own Death Squad. When Don Pendleton created Mack Bolan, the iconic vigilante action hero “who would make Jack Reacher think twice,” he established nothing less than a publishing landmark (Empireonline.com). With more than two hundred million Executioner books sold to date, its influence on the action genre is still being felt. In cocreating his Marvel Comics avenger, The Punisher, Gerry Conway admits: “I was fascinated by the Don Pendleton Executioner character . . . I wanted to do something that was inspired by that.” Now in development as a major motion picture, the Executioner series lives on. Death Squad is the 2nd book in the Executioner series, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There is real personal danger for anthropologists who dare to speak and write against terror; by doing so, they potentially and sometimes actually bring the terror down on themselves."—Jeffrey A. Sluka, from the Introduction Death Squad is the first work to focus specifically on the anthropology of state terror. It brings together an international group of anthropologists who have done extensive research in areas marked by extreme forms of state violence and who have studied state terror from the perspective of victims and survivors. The book presents eight case studies from seven countries—Spain, India (Punjab and Kashmir), Argentina, Guatemala, Northern Ireland, Indonesia, and the Philippines—to demonstrate the cultural complexities and ambiguities of terror when viewed at the local level and from the participants' point of view. Contributors deal with such topics as the role of Loyalist death squads in the culture of terror in Northern Ireland, the three-tier mechanism of state terror in Indonesia, the complex role of religion in violence by both the state and insurgents in Punjab and Kashmir, and the ways in which "disappearances" are used to destabilize and demoralize opponents of the state in Argentina, Guatemala, and India.

Helmut Langerbein has systematically examined the trial evidence in search of characteristics shared by these mass murderers. Using a much broader data base than earlier studies, Langerbein identifies a number of factors that could explain their actions, illustrating each with a particular person or group of officers." "Given the extent of its data, its detailed analysis and its careful conclusions, Hitler's Death Squads: The Logic of Mass Murder will push historians and psychologists toward a reappraisal of the Nazi killing machine, the behavior of the men behind the battle lines, and the overwhelming power of circumstances."--Jacket.

Book Death Squads in Global Perspective

Download or read book Death Squads in Global Perspective written by B. Campbell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-10-17 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death squads have become an increasingly common feature of the modern world. In nearly all instances, their establishment is tolerated, encouraged, or undertaken by the state itself, which thereby risks its monopoly on the use of force, one of the fundamental characteristics of modern states. Why do such a variety of regimes, under very different circumstances, condone such activity? Death Squads in Global Perspective hopes to answer that question and explain not only their development, but also why they can be expected to proliferate in the early 21st century.

Book Terrorism and Policy Relevance

Download or read book Terrorism and Policy Relevance written by James Fitzgerald and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the interrelationship between terrorism and policy relevance from a range of critical perspectives. In particular, it questions the politics of policy-relevance; that is, it interrogates how epistemological and practical pressures to produce "policy-relevant" research shapes prevalent understandings of (counter)terrorism, and vice-versa. It also reflects on Critical Terrorism Studies’ (CTS) relationship to policy-relevance. Should CTS eschew engagement with policy-relevance and maintain a position outside the orthodoxy, or are CTS scholars uniquely positioned to offer meaningful alternatives to contemporary counterterrorism practices? Read thus, the question of policy relevance is central to CTS’ identity and represents an essential juncture as to how associated scholarship might develop into the future.
