Book Hit It with a Bigger Hammer

Download or read book Hit It with a Bigger Hammer written by Kevin Boyle and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I did not set out to change the way the world manages crime and corruption but that is the potential outcome of the successful prevention solution I founded 25 years ago in commerce. Be careful what you look for... I have been obstructed within and outside the security industry from further employing and developing the solution and this book is written to tell its story so that you can decide on its merits and future. After a brief 5 year career in policing I transferred the best practice policing methods into proprietary security management in commerce and quickly found that they did not prevent offending and, indeed, probably aggravated it. When highlighting this with peers I was told I was going soft and told to get tougher which simply posed more questions than answers so I began to answer those questions. I discovered that since policing was incepted over 2000 years ago, it has been societys expert purveyor of crime prevention method and advice and this has gone unquestioned and unchallenged over that time. What has evolved is that policing is the fence at the top of the cliff of societal crime management as well as the ambulance at the bottom creating a serious conflict of interest that has allowed the anomaly to be perpetuated and manifest itself into the systemic failure of our criminal justice system. This failed ideology has inexorably crept into the private security industry as best practice in prevention management that now manages crime and corruption in commerce and sports (and other areas) where it achieves the same failed prevention outcomes. Whether you are an athlete in sport, an employee in commerce or a citizen of society you will recognize this truth and this book gives you the opportunity to build a fence at the top of the cliff for the first time in the history of crime and corruption management.

Book excerpt: The disease of addiction affects 1 out of 10 people in the United States, and is a devastating—often, fatal—illness. Now, from the physician director of the renowned Betty Ford Center, comes a step-by-step plan with a realistic “one-day-at-a-time” approach to a disease that so often seems insurmountable. With a focus on reclaiming the power that comes from a life free of dependency, Being Sober walks readers through the many phases of addiction and recovery without judgment or the overly "cultish" language of traditional 12-step plans. It also addresses the latest face of this disease: the "highly functioning" addict, or someone who is still able to achieve personal and professional success even as they battle a drug or alcohol problem. Dr. Haroutunian tackles this provocative issue head-on, offering new insight into why you don’t have to “bottom out” to get help. Dr. Haroutunian is himself a recovering alcoholic and knows firsthand the challenges of sobriety. His background and expertise in the field of alcohol and drug treatment give him a powerful edge and perspective that is unparalleled in his field. Using clear, straightforward language, Being Sober offers a proven path toward an emotional sobriety and a rewarding new life based on gratitude, dignity, and self-respect. Including a Foreword written by Steven Tyler.

Download or read book My People It s Time to Come Home written by Travis Galen Smart and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered about your purpose in life? It was a long time before I ever knew I had a purpose. Everything seemed that it was self-serving in life: you were supposed to have a family, a nice house, and a nice car with money in the bank. Then one day it hit me: life was not all about me. I found out that life was about friends and family, about community and relationships. I saw that to me, it was about helping kids by being a coach, and it was my purpose to be a father to four wonderful children, and to be a loving husband to my beautiful wife. This revelation caused me to take a look back at my family's history, and as a result I found some of the greatest stories I have ever heard. I saw love, hope, strength, loyalty, and honor. Most importantly, I saw faith.

Along with period photos, the author shows us the sod house in Nebraska where his mother was born, the frame house of his childhood, the production houses he built in the San Fernando Valley, and the Habitat for Humanity homes he devotes his time to now. Book excerpt: There are two grades of human beings, high and low. Their grades have nothing to do with material wealth, title etc... But have something to do with character wealth. These character grades determine whether one is likeable or not, and if one lives a happy and meaningful life or not. High grades enrich other's lives while low grades tire and bore others. High character grade doesn't mean "perfect" but is the one and probably the only one important factor in life. Not only in relating to others but also in relation to oneself. Material wealth doesn't matter much once economic independence is achieved, but character wealth matters most in life. For instance, high grades are always suffi cient in life no matter what, while low grades are always insuffi cient. Not only that, you always have to be careful of low grades since they are opportunistic and manipulative, therefore using others. While high grades are genuine, therefore enriching not only other's lives but also their own lives.

High-performance limited-slip versions of these differentials also have been installed in Camaros, Chevelles, Corvettes, and many other GM muscle cars from 1964 through the 1970s, as well as Chevy and GMC trucks. If you have owned a GM performance car from the 1960s or 1970s, you have owned one of these sturdy, reliable, and versatile differentials. Many of these differentials are now more than 50 years old and are due for an overhaul. In Chevy Differentials: How to Rebuild the 10- and 12-Bolt, author Jefferson Bryant walks you through the entire process of procuring, evaluating, and rebuilding the perfect differential for your GM application.
