Book The Ascent of Vishnu and the Fall of Brahma

Download or read book The Ascent of Vishnu and the Fall of Brahma written by Swami Achuthananda and published by Relianz Communications Pty Ltd. This book was released on 2018-08-27 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Hindu mythology, Brahma has a lifespan of 100 years. That may appear way short for a god of Brahmaā€™s standing . (He is the creator of our solar system.) But Brahma and Hindu gods do not follow our traditional 24-hour clock. They represent time in cosmic units of yugas and kalpas. If you donā€™t understand any of these terms, thatā€™s ok. A kalpa, for instance, is defined as a day of Brahma and translates to 4.32 billion human years. In fact Brahma has a lifespan of 311 trillion years! We explain these colossal timescales, as we introduce Brahma in this book. You will learn that Brahma initially was the supreme deity of Hinduism, but he could not hang on to his position for long. A judgmental lapse is said to have caused his downfall. With Brahmaā€™s descent, Vishnu rose to power. Today, in the Hindu pantheon, Vishnu is a prominent god, and has a following of more than 700 million devotees, who are occasionally identified by the U-shared marks on their foreheads. With a focus on Vishnu and Brahma, we continue our journey beyond the Vedic era. We begin by examining a popular creation myth in which Brahma emerges from the navel of a sleeping Vishnu and starts crafting the world. Further on, we explore the churning of the milky ocean, a crucial event in Hindu mythology and one of the rare occasions when gods and demons collaborated (instead of fighting) to search for the nectar of immortality. Many precious thingsā€”and surprisesā€”came out this quest, including Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and consort of Vishnu. We also get to know a critical insight into our ancestry. According to Hinduism, we are all related and descendants of Manu, the father of human race. While this book focuses on Brahma and Vishnu, there will be occasional detours when we pause to look at art and architecture. In particular, weā€™ll look at Angkor Wat, the largest Hindu temple in the world. Guess what? The fact that Angkor Wat is located outside India has dented Hindu pride from time immemorial. Weā€™ll also peek at ancient paintings from a mythological perspective, especially the unique genre of miniature paintings called ragamala that combines art, music, and poetry. A remarkable shift in worship took place during this period. Bhakti became a major form of worship and pervaded Hindu society forever. If you are unfamiliar with bhakti, then nothing exemplifies bhakti (devotion) more than the dancing-and-chanting Hare Krishnas.

Book Trimurti Brahma Vishnu And Shiva

Download or read book Trimurti Brahma Vishnu And Shiva written by Smita Singh and published by Smita Singh. This book was released on 2024-07-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Trimurti is a concept in Hinduism that represents the cosmic triad of three major deities who together embody the cycles of creation, preservation, and destruction in the universe. The term "Trimurti" is derived from the Sanskrit words "tri," meaning three, and "murti," meaning forms or manifestations. The Trimurti consists of the following deities: Brahma: The Creator - Brahma is responsible for the creation of the universe and all living beings. He is depicted with four heads, each representing one of the four Vedas, symbolizing his role as the source of divine knowledge. Vishnu: The Preserver - Vishnu sustains and maintains the universe. He is known for his avatars, such as Rama and Krishna, who descend to Earth to restore cosmic order and protect dharma (righteousness). Shiva: The Destroyer/Transformer - Shiva is responsible for the dissolution of the universe, paving the way for its renewal and regeneration. He embodies destruction not in a negative sense but as part of the natural cycle of creation and transformation. Together, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva form a trinity that represents the fundamental forces of creation, preservation, and destruction in Hindu cosmology. They are interconnected and interdependent, with each deity complementing the roles and functions of the others to maintain cosmic balance and harmony. The Trimurti concept underscores the cyclical nature of existence and the interplay of forces that sustain the universe according to Hindu philosophical teachings.

Book Brahma Creator Of The Universe Large Print

Download or read book Brahma Creator Of The Universe Large Print written by Om Books Editorial Team and published by Om Books International. This book was released on 2015 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hindus consider Lord Brahma as the Creator of the Universe. Along with Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, he forms the Holy Trinity. As creation is the work of the mind and the intellect, Lord Brahma symbolises the Universal Mind. From the standpoint of an individual, he symbolises oneā€™s own mind and intellect. However, Lord Brahma has lost his claim to being a supreme deity. Today, there is no cult or sect that exclusively worships him, but there are a few temples dedicated to him. There are many myths around his origin and powers; his life reverberates with symbolism which needs to be understood. This beautifully-illustrated book explores all these aspects and serves as an excellent introduction to the Father of the gods, humans and demons.

Book excerpt: Home to one of the ancient civilizations of the world, India is also the birthplace of a dizzying array of gods worshipped by millions of Hindus living in India and across the globe. Over the centuries many of these gods rose to power and became the object of utmost devotion, only to fall from grace and lose their standing. These deities shared a peculiar trait: they were never perfect. In this multivolume series entitled, The Galaxy of Hindu Gods, Sach takes you on an extended journey to meet with the gods and share their tales with you. Among the multitude of deities, the most ancient are the Vedic gods, which include luminaries like Indra, Surya, Varuna, Agni, and others. Today a minor deity, the Vedic Indra was once the ruler of the three worlds who, under the influence of a mysterious power drink, fought with the demons and vanquished them. His reign did not last long. His comrades Surya and Varuna also had their glory days but were overthrown by other gods of the pantheon. Yet, after thousands of years, gods like Indra, Surya, and Varuna are still household names and honored in Hindu rituals and traditions. If you know little or nothing about Hindu mythology, this is your ideal starting point where you will meet the overwhelming array of Hindu gods and learn about their wonderful stories.

Book The Secrets of Brahma

Download or read book The Secrets of Brahma written by Henry Romano and published by DTTV PUBLICATIONS. This book was released on with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ANCIENT INDIA'S HINDU ORIGIN The reprimand of Lord Shiva by Brahma for harboring sexual feelings for his own daughter, Sandhya, led him to consult Daksha and his other sons about what to do. Due to his high status as a yogi and his lack of knowledge of women and passion, Shiva had little understanding of sexual feelings. Trying to make Shiva suffer from love's pangs, Brahma enlisted the help of Kama and Rati, his wife. The creation will continue to be mediocre unless Shiva indulges in sexual activity. Only Kama's power can triumph over Shiva, who is highly detached." Thus saying, Brahma requested the Kama to try his wiles on Lord Shiva. Vasanta was also created for the Kama to be his constant companion so that he could succeed in his adventures. "Kama, please try to enchant Shiva on behalf of the world. Shoot your arrows at Shiva wherever he goes to entice him to take a wife. Follow him wherever he goes, whether over mountains, through forests, or on peaks. You are the only person who can make this happen. He dislikes women and is in complete control of his own actions." With these words of the Creator in his ears, Kama, accompanied by Vasanta and the gentle breeze of Maharashtra, departed for the harsh mountains, caves, and dales in which Shiva roamed. As the seasons changed, Kama's journey continued. There was no longer a cold wind blowing against the icy peaks of the Himalayas. Instead, it was swept by a gentle Malaya breeze, fragrant with the scent of a thousand flowers. Amid all the blossoming trees, Shiva was immersed in atomic bliss, not beguiled by the beauty. Kama's sugarcane bow sent arrow after arrow flying. Rati and he both tried every trick in the book. Shiva was immune to their charm, but all living things succumbed to theirs. All living things except him were affected. Brahma returned dejectedly to the Kama after his ego had been crushed.
