This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of Company K, First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, During the Spanish-American War, Vol. 8 Does he not hold up his head and strut in his gait. - Shakespeare. This excellent drill-master, than whom none better was in the regiment nor possibly in the brigade, found his voice quite early in life and it is presumed at once instinctively cried, "Company, atten - tion." This was in the city of Hartford some forty years ago and the company then present paid strict attention, without doubt. His father, P. H. B. Saunders was a successful merchant tailor and upon his death, the business was carried on by Captain Saunders whose laudable ambition, both in civil and military matters, has ever since been to induce men to dress up. He joined Company K twenty years ago and was elected captain in 1895. First Lieutenant Edward H. Waterman. He is a soldier fit to stand by Caesar, and give direction. - Othello. Lieutenant Waterman first started for the front in the spring of 1858, following close upon the sun as it crossed the line in March. He lined up with Company K in 1879, rising from the ranks to his present position and making a model first sergeant on the way. Hartford has always been his home. Download or read book The American Soldier 1866 1916 written by John A. Haymond and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the years following the Civil War, the U.S. Army underwent a professional decline. Soldiers served their enlistments at remote, nameless posts from Arizona to Alaska. Harsh weather, bad food and poor conditions were adversaries as dangerous as Indian raiders. Yet under these circumstances, men continued to enlist for $13 a month. Drawing on soldiers’ narratives, personal letters and official records, the author explores the common soldier’s experience during the Reconstruction Era, the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War and the Punitive Expedition into Mexico.

Book On This Day in Connecticut History

Download or read book On This Day in Connecticut History written by Gregg Mangan and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Connecticut's character runs much deeper than breathtaking fall foliage and quaint coastal towns. One day at a time, author Gregg Mangan chronicles fascinating episodes in state history, from the earliest European settlements to the modern era. After a lengthy debate, the state senate voted in favor of "Yankee Doodle" as the official state song on March 16, 1978. Bridgeport's General Electric Company completed work on the bazooka on June 14, 1942. On the morning of December 4, 1891, the only four-train collision in American history occurred at the railroad station in East Thompson. Each date on the calendar holds a nugget of knowledge in this celebration of Constitution State history.
