Book excerpt: Excerpt from History and Significance of the Sacred Tabernacle of the Hebrews Of writers later than Bahr to whom I am indebted, Kurtz de serves to be here mentioned: for, in cases where he has expressed his opinion, I have not often found cause for dissenting; and, in the numerous instances in which my judgment has coincided with his, I have not deemed it necessary to make specific acknowledgment except when his language is adopted. The work which Bahr began can be completed only by a suc cession of laborers, each of whom will doubtless make some mis takes. Those who have preceded me have done so; and I cannot expect that my interpretation will in all cases be satisfactory to later explorers. Confident that my studies have added to the knowledge of Hebrew symbolism, both in breadth and accuracy, I hope they may assist those who come after me to make additional discoveries. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Tabernacle: Its History and Structure He has made considerable use of the much-neglected materials contained in the Books of the Chronicles, and has shown that when properly understood they are worthy of more credit than criticism nowadays is disposed to allow. That David should have left plans of the future temple-buildings behind him may seem too modern an idea to many readers, but it is borne out by archaeological fact. Such plans were made in Egypt and Babylonia centuries before the days of David, and some of them have survived to our own time. The profession of the architect is immensely old in the civilised East. One of the points upon which he has rightly insisted is the historical importance of the destruction of Shiloh. It is 'a point to which I also have drawn attention in my Early History of the Hebrews. That there should be no detailed account of it in the Old Testament is not surprising; Shiloh was the centre and home of what literary culture there was in Israel during the stormy period of the Judges, and its destruction necessarily meant a break in the literary and annalistic record. It would have been at the central sanctuary only that a yearly chronicle of events could be kept. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful work is a theological, historical, and scriptural explanation of the Tabernacle of Moses in the Sinai Wilderness. It is a practical, in-depth, and engaging work that examines in detail the Old Testament Tabernacle and gleans from every aspect of its story, a connection with Jesus Christ. The author has journeyed back into time and takes us along to where he uncovers amazing and revealing connections between the old tabernacle with all its bloodshed, and the work of Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. The Tabernacle of Moses is an intensely transformative work; it reveals long hidden secrets whose discovery introduces our hearts to truth we have never known and pours into our understanding immensely revealing connections that leave no doubt as to why the Tabernacle of Moses was a necessary prerequisite for the work of our Messiah, Jesus Christ. Written for both Christians and non-Christians seeking biblical understanding, The Tabernacle of Moses is a guide for greater comprehension of both Old and New Testament scriptures. Through this Old Testament portable sanctuary where God chose to live on earth among His people, we are afforded a close up view of Israels journey from bondage in Egypt to freedom through the Red Sea. As the Israelites moved towards the Promised Land, the book explains how God uses this tabernacle, and ultimately the entire Bible, to teach through types, shadows, and symbolism, the importance of this structure in the development of the religious life of Israel and in the believers life today. This work seeks to help us understand how the redeeming work of Jesus Christ is made possible based on the Tabernacle of Moses.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Jewish Tabernacle: And Its Furniture, in Their Typical Teachings When St. Paul desired to point out tho relation existing between the Mosaic economy, with its rites and ceremonies, and that which has succeeded it, he compared the former to a shadow and the latter to a body, or sicbstance, by which that shadow was forecast. Colossi ans ii.17. The relation existing between a shadow and the substance which projects it is easily understood. But all natural figures fail when applied to spiritual things. Ordinarily the shadow will afford nothing but the most general and unsatisfactory idea of the nature of the substance which projects it.
