This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Census of Newfoundland and Labrador, 1911: Table 1., Population, Sex, Condition, Denomination, Profession, &C It is impossible to account satisfactorily for the low average rate of increase for the seven years from 1884 to 1891. There are no figures show ing the births and deaths for that period, nor are there any returns of emigration. The increase of total population in this Census over that of 1901 is or per cent., which is a slight increase on the percentage for the previous ten years. From the records of Vital Statistics it is found that for ten years since the Census of 1901 there were births and deaths in the Colony. The excess of would be the natural growth of the population, which, by these figures, should now total being an increase of per cent. For the ten years. From the records of Emigration and Immigration during the ten years it is found that the loss to the population of the Colony by such means is people, or about per cent. Of the population of 1901. Subtracting this loss from the population with natural increase added, we find that, according to the records of Vital Statistics and of Emigration, the present population should be 243, 333. By the present Census Returns it IS found that the population 18 242, 619, thus showing but a small difference of 714 persons between the two methods of computation. This affords a real and valuable check upon the Census, and in the present instance proves that the Census has been correctly taken. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Census of Newfoundland and Labrador, 1901, Vol. 1: Table I Population, Sex, Condition, Denominations, Professions, &C I have the honour to submit the following Report upon the Census of 1901. It is provided in Cap. 27, Consolidated Statutes (2nd Series), that the general census and returns shall be taken and made between the months of June and December in the year 1901. As in this Colony the Educational and Road Grants are allocated to each section according to its population, it is obvious that the enumeration must not only be of the people as a whole, but also of the residents in each settlement A large number of these people can only be found at their homes during the xfihtéréeason a time when it is impossible to take the census, owing to the difficulties of communication and travel. The sum mer finds them at Labrador, or engaged in the fisheries off the coast of this Island, but the enumerator must count them as resident in the settlement where is their place of abode. Special provision had to be made in order to avoid duplication of entry, and in most cases the sheets were retained till December, when the majority of these people had re turned home, and the sheets could thus be checked. The census, there fore, may be regarded as including all persons resident in Newfoundland and Labrador in the month of December, 1901.
