"B" 6th (Logwood's) Tennessee Cavalry Battalion, was authorized by Major General Sterling Price, with the authorization approved by Major General Earl Van Dorn, to raise a regiment of cavalry within the Federal lines in West Tennessee. The unit was assigned to R.V. Richardson's and Rucker's Brigade, and skirmished in West Tennessee and Mississippi. Book excerpt: The Tennessee 14th Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Duncan near Clarksville in May 1861 by Col. William A. Forbes. Almost immediately it received orders transferring it to the Virginia theatre where the regiment would remain for the duration of the war and served with distinction in the Army of Northern Virginia, until its final capitulation. The regiment served in James J. Archer's famed "Tennessee Brigade" assigned to A.P. Hill's Light Division. Hill's men earned a hard won reputation for making critical counterattacks preserving Confederate victories at Cedar Mountain, Second Manassas and Sharpsburg. At Manassas Col. Forbes was mortally wounded and succeeded by William McComb; who had become a Brigadier General in 1865. The 14th had fought at Seven Pines, Mechanicsville, Shepherdstown, Ox Hill, Harper's Ferry, Frazier's Farm, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville where the brigade seized the critical high ground of Hazel Grove, forcing the Union right wing to fold back upon its center and allowing Lee to reunite his divided forces. Book excerpt: The Tennessee 9th Cavalry Regiment was organized at Camp Nelson from East Tennessee refugees in the early part of 1863, with Joseph H. Parsons, of Knox county, as colonel. It assisted in the capture of Cumberland gap, after which it escorted the prisoners to Lexington, Ky. Returning to Knoxville, it remained there until after the siege of that place, and was then detailed to escort prisoners to Camp Nelson, from which place it was ordered to Nashville, where it arrived in January and remained until about May 1st. It was stationed at Gallatin from that time until August, when it was constituted a portion of the brigade known as the "Governor's Guards," under the command of Gen. Gillem, which then entered upon a campaign in East Tennessee. It participated with great gallantry in all the battles of that campaign, and at Bull's gap a large portion of the regiment was taken prisoners. A large part of the 11th cavalry having also been captured it was consolidated with the remainder of the 9th. On March 21, 1865, it entered upon the raid through Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia under Gen. Stoneman. It returned to Tennessee in May and was mustered out at Knoxville in Sept., 1865.

The 3rd Tennessee (Forrest's Old) Cavalry Regiment was organized at Memphis, Tennessee, in October, 1861, as an eight-company battalion. In January, 1862, it was increased to regimental size. When the mass Confederate breakout attempt at Fort Donelson failed, Forrest led most of his own men, and some other troops, through the besieging lines and then directed the rear guard during the retreat from Nashville. The regiment fought throughout the war in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky. As first organized the regiment was composed of Capt. Overton's Company (A), Brandenburg, Ky., some ninety men; Capt. Logan's Company (G), Harrodsburg, Ky., forty-five men; Kelley Troopers (Company F), Madison county, Ala., ninety men; Capt. Trewhitt's Company (E), Gadsden, Ala., eighty men; Capt. Bawl's Company (B), South Alabama, eighty men; Capt. Miner's Company (PI), Marshall county, Ala., eighty-five men; Capt. Gould's Company (D), Texas, ninety men; and Capt. May's Company (C), Memphis, Tenn., ninety men. Later it became by degrees almost entirely a regiment of West Tennessee troops.

Ordered to Virginia, the unit arrived at Huntersville July 21, 1861 with 887 men. It was placed in Brigadier General Daniel S. Donelson's Brigade, along with the 16th Tennessee, and the 1st and 14th Georgia Regiments. The 8th and 16th Tennessee Regiments served in the same brigade organizations throughout the war. As part of this brigade it participated in the Cheat Mountain Campaign. After the Cheat Mountain failure, the 8th and 16th, Donelson's Brigade were sent to Port Royal, South Carolina, arriving December 16, 1861. The 8th was in a skirmish at Port Royal Ferry January 1, 1862. April 10, 1862, Donelson's Brigade, 1572 men, was ordered to Corinth, Mississippi, and in May the brigade consisted of the 2nd, 8th, 15th, 16th and 154th Tennessee Infantry Regiments, and Carnes' Tennessee Battery. The 8th Tennessee continued throughout the remainder of the war with the Army of Tennessee, participating in all the major battles and the Atlanta Campaign. After the Battle of Nashville, December 15-16, 1864, the 8th joined General Joseph E. Johnston, in North Carolina, and was surrendered and paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, as part of the 1st Consolidated Tennessee Infantry Regiment. Book excerpt: The Tennessee 45th Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Trousdale, Tennessee, in December, 1861. It participated in the Battle of Shiloh, was active at Baton Rouge, then served in the Jackson area. Later it was assigned to J.C. Brown's, Brown's and Reynolds' Consolidated, and Palmer's Brigade, Army of Tennessee. In November, 1863, it was consolidated with the 23rd Infantry Battalion. The regiment took an active part in the campaigns of the army from Murfreesboro to Atlanta, moving with General Hood back into Tennessee, but it was not engaged at Franklin and Nashville. It ended the war in North Carolina. The unit sustained 112 casualties at Murfreesboro, lost forty-three percent of the 226 at Chickamauga, and reported 12 men disabled at Missionary Ridge. The 45th/23rd Battalion totaled 316 men and 340 arms in December, 1863. Few surrendered in April, 1865.

Brazelton's Battalion was also called the 2nd Battalion and the 5th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion.
