Book Evolution of Italian Enterprises in the 20th Century

Download or read book Evolution of Italian Enterprises in the 20th Century written by Renato Giannetti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-10 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the first two-thirds of the 20th century the themes of sectorial structure and compared performance prevail in Italian economic historiography. In contrast, in the last part of the century attention is focused on the behavior of single economic actors and their micro-economic strategies. This book intends to act as a bridge between the two approaches, and reconstructs the secular journey of Italian industrial enterprise through an original study.

Book The Reinterpretation of Italian Economic History

Download or read book The Reinterpretation of Italian Economic History written by Stefano Fenoaltea and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-30 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post-unification Italy was part of a wider world within which men and money circulated freely; it developed to the extent that those mobile resources chose to locate on its soil. The economy's cyclical movements reflected conditions in international financial markets, and were little affected by domestic policies. State intervention restricted the internal and international mobility of goods, and limited Italy's development: it kept the economy weak, reduced Italy's weight in the comity of nations, and paved the way for the frustrations and adventurism that would plunge the twentieth century into world war.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1945 Italy found itself in austere conditions, with 3,000 billion damages suffered from the war. Most of the industrial plants are saved, but the production of 1945 collapses by 29% compared to 1938. Heavy damage to the transport system. Over one and a half million unemployed. Raw materials are lacking, and people suffer from hunger. There is American aid, but it is about launching an organic economic reorganisation plan to restore production levels in 1938. A difficult task, especially in an atmosphere dominated by strong social tensions. These are difficult years characterised by great vitality, by a deep desire to resume a normal life after the horrors of the war. In 1950, the trade balance showed a positive balance for the first time after the war. After reconstruction, the development phase begins. Ciociaria is the prime example of the Italian resurrection.
