Book excerpt: The stable-coachhouse complex which is discussed in this paper is located on the former estate of the famous Hudson River landscape artist, Frederic Edwin Church who lived there, developed the estate and built the great house "Olana" between the years of 1870 and 1900. When the artist died in1900, the Olana Estate passed to Church's heirs and, finally, in 1966 it was purchased by the State of New York and was subsequently deemed an historic site which would be restored to the year 1900. With this goal in mind, research was undertaken on all of the estate buildings including that which is the subject of this report.
