Book The Lutheran Church in Paris

Download or read book The Lutheran Church in Paris written by William Wackernagel and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Lutheran Church in Paris: An Historical and Descriptive Sketch The Lutherans of Paris and in France are looking to the Lutherans in America and uttering a Macedonian Call, "Come over and help us." They are an important link in the polyglot Mother Church of Protestantism and in a most peculiar way serve in these trying days to emphasize the international character of the Lutheran Church which in America uses more languages than any other Protestant denomination in conducting her services. French Lutherans are brothers in a common cause and needing a brotherly helping hand. This little volume will introduce to our American Lutherans these faithful adherents to the Augsburg Confession - "the Magna Charta of Protestantism," - and we trust serve to aid in cementing the bonds which will endure and make their cause and the cause of the Church in America a common one. Together may they assure the maintenance and extension of evangelical faith. To this end this little book is historical, descriptive and missionary. May it inform and may it serve in the extension of the common faith and in the emphasis of our common brotherhood through Jesus Christ our Lord. Book The Chronology of the Cathedral Churches of France Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Chronology of the Cathedral Churches of France Classic Reprint written by Barr Ferree and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-07 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Chronology of the Cathedral Churches of France In preparing these tables it should, perhaps, be added, that all reference to the dates of glass and of tombs or of other monuments have been omitted from specific reference. Both these furnish most valuable data for chronological purposes, but reference to them in the tables would have required more room than could have been given to the subject. Dates of furniture, as choir screens, choir wood work and the like, have been omitted for the same reason. The present pamphlet has been reprinted in separate form for distribution among archaeologists, with the hope that those familiar with the histories of the cathedrals will correct any errors in the tables or refer the author to such works as will enable him to modify it wherever necessary. The author trusts most earnestly, therefore that those to whom this pamphlet is sent, and those into whose hands it may fall will render him every assistance in his effort to prepare an entirely trustworthy chronology of the cathedrals of France. Book Notre Dame De Paris Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notre Dame De Paris Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Victor Hugo and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notre-Dame De Paris, Vol. 1 A few years ago, while visiting or, rather, rummaging about notre-dame, the author of this book found, in an obscure nook of one of the towers, the following word, engraved by hand upon the wall: These Greek capitals, black with age, and quite deeply graven in the stone, with I know not what signs peculiar to Gothic caligraphy imprinted upon their forms and upon their attitudes, as though with the purpose of revealing that it had been a hand of the Middle Ages which had inscribed them there, and especially the fatal and melancholy meaning contained in them, struck the author deeply. He questioned himself; he sought to divine who could have been that soul in torment which had not been willing to quit this world without leaving this stigma of crime or unhappi ness upon the brow of the ancient church. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Separation of the Churches and the State in France Living in Paris during this period, the writer became deeply interested in it, was a witness to some of the exciting episodes and heard it discussed, praised and criticized, by all manner of men from an Archbishop and an Ambassador down to the ubiquitous concierge. With an abundance of time, that else might have been wasted, but which was utilized, instead, in watching the manifestations and developments, the facts noted and conclusions drawn were finally reduced to writing and published in Paris in March, 1907. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Churches Of Paris From Clovis To Charles X This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Book The Family and the Church

Download or read book The Family and the Church written by Charles Jean Marie Loyson and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Family and the Church: Advent Conferences of Notre Dame, Paris, 1866-7, 1868-9 The two volumes of Father Hyacinthe's Discourses, of which this is the second, contain, together, with one insignificant exception, everything that has been written or revised by him for publication. In addition, we give herewith the rough and unrevised reports of his last series of "Conferences" at Notre Dame, on The Church. In reading them no small regret will be felt at finding them evidently so incomplete. But containing as they do their author's doctrine of the Church, and especially his enunciation of that doctrine of "the soul of the Church," which has been remarked as one of the chief characteristics of his preaching, they could ill have been spared from this volume. Book Seventeen Years in Paris

Download or read book Seventeen Years in Paris written by H. E. Noyes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Seventeen Years in Paris: A Chaplain's Story It may be true that in small chaplaincies in lonely places, with but few English people in residence, men get out of touch with Church life and work in England, but it is not the same in the permanent chaplaincies in thickly populated places. In Paris we had our organisations much as at home. Daily Services, Sunday Schools, Mothers' Meetings; Visitors, etc., and although the numbers attending (owing to distance) were not so great as at home, the work was much the same. I have given several hints which I trust may be useful to parents intending to send their children abroad for education, and also to those who may be purposing to reside in Paris. As we are going to press the notice appears in the papers of the death Of Sir Edmund Monson, formerly Ambassador in Paris. The country loses in him a distinguished and faithful servant, and all who knew him will regret a kind and generous friend.
