Download or read book Individualidade Biol oacute gica em Perspectiva Filos oacute fica written by Karel Van den Bergen and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human reality, they taught me, is built by perception and its processing. We perceive individuals. Living individuality seems simple. Understanding it proved to be very difficult. This study tries to discover what figure appears when scientific biological individuality is projected in the secular and modern perspective of the paradoxical - philosophic theories of the one and the multiple. It became: not absoulte, intensely relative and holistic: perhaps a better model for human individuals and social wellbeing.

Book Nature of Science in Science Instruction

Download or read book Nature of Science in Science Instruction written by William McComas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-24 with total page 745 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive introduction to Nature of Science (NOS), one of the most important aspects of science teaching and learning, and includes tested strategies for teaching aspects of the NOS in a variety of instructional settings. In line with the recommendations in the field to include NOS in all plans for science instruction, the book provides an accessible resource of background information on NOS, rationales for teaching these targeted NOS aspects, and – most importantly – how to teach about the nature of science in specific instructional contexts. The first section examines the why and what of NOS, its nature, and what research says about how to teach NOS in science settings. The second section focuses on extending knowledge about NOS to question of scientific method, theory-laden observation, the role of experiments and observations and distinctions between science, engineering and technology. The dominant theme of the remainder of the book is a focus on teaching aspects of NOS applicable to a wide variety of instructional environments.

This book was released on 2022-05-10 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Evolution Education and the Rise of the Creationist Movement in Brazil

Download or read book Evolution Education and the Rise of the Creationist Movement in Brazil written by Kristin Cook and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-09-15 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution Education and the Rise of the Creationist Movement in Brazil examines how larger societal forces such as religion, media, and politics have shaped Brazil’s educational landscape and impacted the teaching and learning of evolution within an increasingly polarized discourse in recent years. To this end, Alandeom W. Oliveira and Kristin Cook have assembled a number of educational scholars and practitioners, many of whom are based in Brazil, to provide up-close and in-depth accounts of classroom-based evolution instruction, teacher preparation programs, current educational policies, and commonly used school curricula. Contributors also present information on Brazilian teachers’ and students’ attitudes toward—and understanding of— evolution, emergent (mis)conceptions of evolution, and international comparisons of evolution acceptance and understanding in Brazil compared to other countries. Across the three sections of this book, readers see a nation navigating the complexity of multiple spheres of thought about evolution and its role in the K-12 and postsecondary curriculum. Suggesting the rise of an influential creationist movement in Brazil, this book illuminates the dynamic sociological processes at play in the educational sphere of Latin America in a globalized era that allows for rapid worldwide travel of competing ideologies. Scholars of Latin American studies, religion, education, sociology, and political science will find this book especially useful.

Book A Physician in the Age of Liberal Reform

Download or read book A Physician in the Age of Liberal Reform written by Andrew W. Keitt and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2024-12-03 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanish physicians constituted a crucial political force in the nineteenth century during the tumultuous process of nation-building that followed the War of Independence against the Napoleonic invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. Many participated in the Cortes of Cádiz, which drafted Spain’s first constitution in 1812 and went on to prove highly influential in the public sphere and legislature during the liberal revolution that undertook the establishment of a new, and precarious, political order. Andrew W. Keitt’s A Physician in the Age of Liberal Reform excavates the life and work of one such doctor, Ildefonso Martínez y Fernández, whose brief career coincided with the consolidation of the liberal revolution and the drive to improve and professionalize Spanish medicine. Born in 1821, Martínez was a polymath and activist whose prolific literary and scholarly output made him a fixture in the political and intellectual ferment of midcentury Spain until his untimely death in 1855 during a devastating outbreak of cholera. He produced a significant body of intellectual research, made key contributions to the profession, and cultivated a deep engagement with the political struggles of the period. His impassioned endeavors, as chronicled by Keitt, highlight the efforts of Spanish physicians to mobilize medical science toward forging a new political culture for liberal Spain.
