Book Writing Political History Today

Download or read book Writing Political History Today written by Willibald Steinmetz and published by Campus Verlag. This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years political history has been rediscovered by historians. In this volume the contributors approach the new political history in a constructivist way, conceiving the political as a communicative space whose boundaries are constantly reconfigured through acts of verbal, visual, and sometimes violent communication. Writing Political History Today is organized into four sections, focusing on politics and the political as contested concepts; boundary disputes between the political and other spheres; the question whether violence is a means, an object, or the end of political communication; and on a future agenda for writing political history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EL BIEN COMÚN EN LA POLICÍA, LA JUSTICIA Y LA GOBERNABILIDAD: UNA APROXIMACIÓN DESDE EL PENSAMIENTO DE SANTO TOMAS DE AQUINO.

Book Iberian Empires and the Roots of Globalization

Download or read book Iberian Empires and the Roots of Globalization written by Ivonne del Valle and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-15 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through interdisciplinary essays covering the wide geography of the Spanish and Portuguese empires, Iberian Empires and the Roots of Globalization investigates the diverse networks and multiple centers of early modern globalization that emerged in conjunction with Iberian imperialism. Iberian Empires and the Roots of Globalization argues that Iberian empires cannot be viewed apart from early modern globalization. From research sites throughout the early modern Spanish and Portuguese territories and from distinct disciplinary approaches, the essays collected in this volume investigate the economic mechanisms, administrative hierarchies, and art forms that linked the early modern Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Iberian Empires and the Roots of Globalization demonstrates that early globalization was structured through diverse networks and their mutual and conflictive interactions within overarching imperial projects. To this end, the essays explore how specific products, texts, and people bridged ideas and institutions to produce multiple centers within Iberian imperial geographies. Taken as a whole, the authors also argue that despite attempts to reproduce European models, early Iberian globalization depended on indigenous agency and the agency of people of African descent, which often undermined or changed these models. The volume thus relays a nuanced theory of early modern globalization: the essays outline the Iberian imperial models that provided templates for future global designs and simultaneously detail the negotiated and conflictive forms of local interactions that characterized that early globalization. The essays here offer essential insights into historical continuities in regions colonized by Spanish and Portuguese monarchies.

Book Spanish identity in the age of nations

Download or read book Spanish identity in the age of nations written by José Álvarez-Junco and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanish identity in the age of nations offers the first comprehensive account in any language of the formation and development of Spanish national identity from ancient times to the present. Much has been written on French, British and German nationalism, but remarkably little has been published on Spanish nationalism. Paradoxically, even in Spain there is much more on Basque, Catalan and other regional nationalisms than on Spanish identity. As a result, this study fills an enormous gap in the literature on Spanish history. This book traces the emergence and evolution of an initial collective identity within the Iberian Peninsula from the Middle Ages to the end of the ancien regime based on the Catholic religion, loyalty to the Crown and Empire. The adaptation of this identity to the modern era, beginning with the Napoleonic Wars and the liberal revolutions, forms the crux of this study. None the less, the book also embraces the highly contested evolution of the national identity in the twentieth century, including both the Civil War and the Franco Dictatorship. Álvarez-Junco ́s pioneering study was awarded both the National Prize for Literature in Spain and the Fastenrath Prize by the Spanish Royal Academy

Book Dominio Pol tico Permanencias Y Cambios

Download or read book Dominio Pol tico Permanencias Y Cambios written by and published by Teseo. This book was released on 2009-03-04 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Nasrid Kingdom of Granada between East and West

Download or read book The Nasrid Kingdom of Granada between East and West written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nasrid Kingdom of Granada (1232-1492) was the last Islamic state in al-Andalus. It has long been considered a historical afterthought, even an anomaly, but this impression must be rectified: here we place the kingdom in a new context, within the processes of change that were taking place across all Western Islamic societies in the late Middle Ages. Despite being the last Islamic entity in the Iberian Peninsula, Granada was neither isolated nor exclusively associated with the nearest Islamic lands. The special relationship between Nasrid territory and the surrounding Christian states accelerated historical processes of change. This volume edited by Adela Fábregas examines the Nasrid kingdom through its politics, society, economics, and culture. Contributors: Daniel Baloup, Bárbara Boloix-Gallardo, María Elena Díez Jorge, Adela Fábregas, Ángel Galán Sánchez, Alberto García Porras, Expiración García Sánchez, Raúl González Arévalo, Pierre Guichard, Antonio Malpica Cuello, Christine Mazzoli-Guintard, Rafael G. Book El elemento religioso en J J Rousseau

Download or read book El elemento religioso en J J Rousseau written by Ferrando López, Andrés and published by Editorial UOC. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Post 9 11 and the State of Permanent Legal Emergency

Download or read book Post 9 11 and the State of Permanent Legal Emergency written by Aniceto Masferrer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-09 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The terrorist attacks occurred in the United States on 11 September 2001 have profoundly altered and reshaped the priorities of criminal justice systems around the world. Atrocities like the 9/11 attacks, the Madrid train bombings of March 2003, and the terrorist act to the United Kingdom of July 2005 threatened the life of democratic nations. The volume explores the response of democratic nation-states to the problems of terrorism and counter-terrorism within the framework of the Rule of Law. One of the primary subjects of study is the ways in which the interests of the state (security from external threats, the maintenance of civil peace, and the promotion of the commonwealth) are balanced or not with the liberty and freedom of the citizens of the state. The distinctive aspect of this focus is that it brings a historical, political, philosophical and comparative approach to the contemporary shape and purposes of the criminal justice systems around the world.

Book excerpt: Drawing on a tripartite taxonomy first suggested by the so-called English School of International Relations of a Hobbesian tradition of power politics, a Grotian tradition of concern with the rules that govern relations between states; and a Kantian tradition of thinking which transcends the existence of the states system, this book discusses the thinking of central political theorists about the modern states system. Thinkers covered are Hobbes, Grotius, Kant, Vitoria, Rousseau, Smith, Burke, Hegel, Gentz and Vattel.
