La Psicología, la Antropología, la Sociología y la Economía, la Estadística, la Matemática y la Filosofía, por citar algunas de las fundamentales, son las materias de las que se ha nutrido. El proceso de adopción de materias científicamente consolidadas en beneficio de una única disciplina, no han surgido de la noche a la mañana sino que forma parte de la evolución y el desarrollo histórico. Las Ciencias Sociales requerían de un método propio de trabajo que ayudara a conocer las formas de vida, las problemáticas, los intercambios y movimientos, la visión, las expectativas y los deseos de la sociedad. La aplicación de la investigación social al mundo empresarial, al análisis del mercado y de sus actores, trajo finalmente la denominada investigación social y de mercado, con todas las especializaciones y características que hoy la definen. La intención de este libro es hacer un breve recorrido por aquellos hitos históricos que han contribuido a la formación, especialización y consolidación de la investigación social, convirtiéndola en una ciencia autónoma con una demostrada efectividad en el mundo empresarial, político y social.

La construcción está atravesada por un hilo rojo: la transformación del investigador de algoritmo (el investigador desaparece detrás de sus procedimientos) en sujeto (el investigador es integrado en el proceso de investigación como sujeto en proceso). Sólo un sujeto humano -”sujeto dividido en pos de un objeto perdido”- puede preguntar por la verdad del orden social: pregunta sin respuesta, pues la prueba empírica -según Heisenberg- y la prueba teórica -según Gödel- son imposibles porque son paradójicas. Hace años, Jesús Ibáñez nos mostraba el camino hacia más allá de la Sociología. Para investigar la sociedad hay que situarse más allá de la sociología: las técnicas de investigación social no articulan ni pueden articular con una teoría sociológica -el orden social se desintegraría si fuéramos conscientes de él-, sino directamente con la ideología: así, la encuesta estadística articula con la ideología grupalista del capitalismo de producción, y el grupo de discusión articula con la ideología grupalista del capitalismo de consumo. Ahora intenta hablarnos desde ese lugar imposible, desde más allá de la sociología. Jesús Ibáñez es catedrático de “Métodos y Técnicas de Investigación Social” en la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociología de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. A lo largo de su vida ha tratado de conjugar sus puntos de vista como actor y como espectador en la vida española. Este libro -presentado como memoria en las oposiciones en las que accedió a la cátedra- es una vuelta de tornillo más en su reflexión crítica sobre la sociología.
