Download or read book Les Livres du Nouveau Testament written by Alfred Loisy and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to the New Testament: The Collection of the Four Gospels and the Gospel of St. Matthew The first and strictly preliminary chapter of this second volume will not deal with the composition of our gospels. I shall confine myself to inquire how and when the group, hitherto closed and inseparable, of these four writings was formed, Which we shall have thereafter to study separately. In the first volume of this work I had not to strike out a new path, for studies pursued during a long series of years had led me to convictions very much in accordance with the views generally admitted on the composition, the date, and the chronological order of the thirteen epistles Of St. Paul which I regard as authentic. Book An Exposition of the Historical Writings of the New Testament Vol 1 of 3

Download or read book An Exposition of the Historical Writings of the New Testament Vol 1 of 3 written by Timothy Kenrick and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Exposition of the Historical Writings of the New Testament, Vol. 1 of 3: With Reflections Subjoined to Each Section; The Gospel of Matthew He has ventured upon only one correction of a high er kind. It was formerly the Opinion of Mr. Kenrick, that the Christian Scriptures describe persons who leave the present world in a condition of unrepented guilt, as doomed to future annihilation agreeably to which idea, he explained those passages in the histor ical books of the New Testament, that speak of the punishment of the wicked in another state. But, dur ing the last years of his life, it was his persuasion, that this sentiment is unsupported by any declarations either of Jesus Christ or of his apostle-s; and he thought, in common with many excellent and learned men, that even the intensest sufferings of the transgressor will be corrective and remedial, and issue, finally, in universal order, happiness, and virtue. To discuss the arguments in behalf of this tenet, or those against it, is not the province of the editor, who, indeed, does not consider himself as responsible for the truth or falsehood of any of the positions, or for the soundness or fallacy of any of the reasonings, occurring in this work. Yet, in his own judgment, he would have ill discharged his duty to the author, and to the public, had he permitted the following pages to represent Mr. Kenrick as holding a doctrine which his friends and hearers knew that he had discarded.
