Book Lecture Economique de l Histoire du Japon

Download or read book Lecture Economique de l Histoire du Japon written by Philippe Huysveld and published by Philippe Huysveld - GBMC. This book was released on 2014-04-29 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Keywords: Japan, Japon, Economie du Japon, Japanese Economy, Histoire du Japon, Japanese History, Lecture Economique, Histoire Economique, Economic History, Commercer avec le Japon, Doing Business with Japan, Commercer au Japon, Doing Business in Japan, Faire des Affaires au Japon, Emploi à vie, Life Employment, Innovation au Japon, les Japonais, the Japanese

Book excerpt: For the past twenty years feminist grass-root movements, professionals, and researchers have shown how the social construction of gender relations interacts with all forms of imperialism to mould the dominant ideologies of development. Based on a constant dialogue between theory and practice, research and action, their analyses of society and international development begin with women's experience and aim at policies and actions directed toward social change and the empowerment of women.

Book Gender History in a Transnational Perspective

Download or read book Gender History in a Transnational Perspective written by Oliver Janz and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent debates have used the concept of “transnational history” to broaden research on historical subjects that transcend national boundaries and encourage a shift away from official inter-state interactions to institutions, groups, and actors that have been obscured. This approach proves particularly fruitful for the dynamic field of global gender and women’s history. By looking at the restless lives and work of women’s activists in informal border-crossings, ephemeral NGOs, the lower management of established international organizations, and other global networks, this volume reflects the potential of a new perspective that allows for a more adequate analysis of transnational activities. By pointing out cultural hierarchies, the vicissitudes of translation and re-interpretation, and the ambiguity of intercultural exchange, this volume demonstrates the critical potential of transnational history. It allows us to see the limits of universalist and cosmopolitan claims so dear to many historical actors and historians.

Book Reproductive Citizens

  • Author : Nimisha Barton
  • Publisher : Cornell University Press
  • Release : 2020-09-15
  • ISBN : 1501749692
  • Pages : 303 pages

Download or read book Reproductive Citizens written by Nimisha Barton and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the familiar tale of mass migration to France from 1880 onward, we know very little about the hundreds of thousands of women who formed a critical part of those migration waves. In Reproductive Citizens, Nimisha Barton argues that their relative absence in the historical record hints at a larger and more problematic oversight—the role of sex and gender in shaping the experiences of migrants to France before the Second World War. Barton's compelling history of social citizenship demonstrates how, through the routine application of social policies, state and social actors worked separately toward a shared goal: repopulating France with immigrant families. Filled with voices gleaned from census reports, municipal statistics, naturalization dossiers, court cases, police files, and social worker registers, Reproductive Citizens shows how France welcomed foreign-born men and women—mobilizing naturalization, family law, social policy, and welfare assistance to ensure they would procreate, bearing French-assimilated children. Immigrants often embraced these policies because they, too, stood to gain from pensions, family allowances, unemployment benefits, and French nationality. By striking this bargain, they were also guaranteed safety and stability on a tumultuous continent. Barton concludes that, in return for generous social provisions and refuge in dark times, immigrants joined the French nation through marriage and reproduction, breadwinning and child-rearing—in short, through families and family-making—which made them more French than even formal citizenship status could.

Book France in the Age of Organization

Download or read book France in the Age of Organization written by Jackie Clarke and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In interwar France, there was a growing sense that ‘organization’ was the solution to the nation’s perceived social, economic and political ills. This book examines the roots of this idea in the industrial rationalization movement and its manifestations in areas as diverse as domestic organization and economic planning. In doing so, it shows how experts in fields ranging from engineering to the biological sciences shaped visions of a rational socio-economic order from the 1920s to Vichy and beyond.
