Book Histochemical and Immunohistochemical Techniques

Download or read book Histochemical and Immunohistochemical Techniques written by Peter H. Bach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toxicological and pharmacological effects arise when chemicals interact with biophysiological functions in discrete cell types. There is a continuing need to screen novel compounds for their potential therapeutic effects, and once these have been "discovered" to understand their molecular actions, as the basis of using such compounds safely and for rational drug design. Pharmacology now uses all of the sophisticated molecular research techniques that are available for the development of safer and more efficacious drugs. Histochemistry has been usefully applied to developing new drugs (and assessing chemical safley) and is potentially cost effective. The need to test novel substances for their potential adverse effects has raised many questions. Toxicological pathology has moved away from the cataloging of lesions towards understanding the basis of the events that underly cell injury, especially for those secondary consequences of chemical injury that lead to malignancy and chronic disease. The focal nature of toxicologic lesions de mands the use of microtechniques to provide data to help understand these questions. Histochemistry is under-utilized, but offers one of the key ap proaches necessary to address the problem of understanding interactions between a cell population and a chemical, the modulation of cellular biochem istryor the presence of a lesion in a test animal can be rationalised in terms of species differences that have no relevance to man as opposed to those that are of clinical significance or represent a warning of dire consequences to man.

Book Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage

Download or read book Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage written by Yuehuei H. An and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Histotechnology and histomorphometry are the major methodologies in bone and cartila- related research. Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage is an outgrowth of the editors’ own quest for information on bone and cartilage histology and histomorphometry. It is designed to be an experimental guide for personnel who work in the areas of basic and clinical bone and cartilage, orthopedic, or dental research. It is the first inclusive and organized reference book on histological and histomorphometrical techniques on bone and cartilage specimens. The topic has not previously been covered adequately by any existing books in the field. Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage has six major parts and is designed to be concise as well as inclusive, and more practical than theoretical. The text is simple and straightforward. Large numbers of tables, line drawings, and micro- or macro-photographs, are used to help readers better understand the content. Full bibliographies at the end of each chapter guide readers to more detailed information. A book of this length cannot discuss every method for bone and cartilage histology that has been used over the years, but it is hoped that major methods and their applications have been included.

Book Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry

Download or read book Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry written by Simon Renshaw and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-02-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry are invaluable tools for the visualization of tissue and cellular antigens in diagnostic and biological research environments. The need to obtain accurate, reliable and reproducible results is paramount. It is with this fundamental aim in mind that we have compiled Immunohistochemistry: Essential Methods. We have achieved this by examining each aspect of immunochemistry in turn, with each chapter including detailed information regarding the subject matter in question. Each chapter is written by an expert in their field and includes protocols that are typically used in their own research. Subjects covered are, amongst others, antibodies and their production; selection of reporter labels; immunochemical staining methods and experimental design (both using single and multiple reporter labels); quality assurance; automated immunochemistry; confocal microscopy and electron microscopy. In addition, benefits and limitations of each approach are discussed within the chapters.
