Book Infrared Microanalysis for Deducing the Formation History of Ferromanganese Deposits

Download or read book Infrared Microanalysis for Deducing the Formation History of Ferromanganese Deposits written by Patricia A. Estep and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared absorption spectroscopy has been demonstrated to be a valuable method for studying the mineralogy and genesis of economically important ferromanganese deposits. Results are presented which demonstrate the usefulness of deterring both bulk mineralogy from infrared spectra of representative samples and structural states of individual minerals from spectra of pure single grains as small as 150 [mu]m. Spectra on isolated singles grains were obtained using the same infrared microsampling techniques recently developed specifically for analysis of fine-grained lunar rocks and dusts. These studies show that it is now possible to correlate infrared data with that from other microanalytical techniques and that the method yields valuable supplemental information. Several recommendations for additional in-depth studies on ferromanganese deposits using infrared microanalysis are outlined.

Robinson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-04 with total page 1057 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume One of The New Cambridge History of Islam, which surveys the political and cultural history of Islam from its Late Antique origins until the eleventh century, brings together contributions from leading scholars in the field. The book is divided into four parts. The first provides an overview of the physical and political geography of the Late Antique Middle East. The second charts the rise of Islam and the emergence of the Islamic political order under the Umayyad and the Abbasid caliphs of the seventh, eighth and ninth centuries, followed by the dissolution of the empire in the tenth and eleventh. 'Regionalism', the overlapping histories of the empire's provinces, is the focus of Part Three, while Part Four provides a cutting-edge discussion of the sources and controversies of early Islamic history, including a survey of numismatics, archaeology and material culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the leading authorities in the field, this is one of the first book's to describe one of today's most important problems in cosmology - the formation of galaxies. The book tackles this great puzzle by discusses the beginnings of the process from cosmological observations and calculations, considers the broad features of galaxies that we need to explain and what we know of their later history. The author compares the competing theories for galaxy formation and considers the progress expected from new generations of powerful telescopes both on earth and in space. An intriguing text on one of today's greatest and most profound puzzles.

Book State Formation in Early Modern England C 1550 1700

Download or read book State Formation in Early Modern England C 1550 1700 written by Michael J. Braddick and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-12-07 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the development of the English state during the long seventeenth century, emphasising the impersonal forces which shape the uses of political power, rather than the purposeful actions of individuals or groups. It is a study of state formation rather than of state building. The author's approach does not however rule out the possibility of discerning patterns in the development of the state, and a coherent account emerges which offers some alternative answers to relatively well-established questions. In particular, it is argued that the development of the state in this period was shaped in important ways by social interests - particularly those of class, gender and age. It is also argued that this period saw significant changes in the form and functioning of the state which were, in some sense, modernising. The book therefore offers a narrative of the development of the state in the aftermath of revisionism.

Book The Formation of Galactic Bulges

Download or read book The Formation of Galactic Bulges written by C. Marcella Carollo and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bulges lie at the center of spiral galaxies. Until recently, they were thought to host uniquely old stellar populations and thus provide a key for understanding galaxy formation. Recent observations from the ground and space have drastically changed our view on the nature of bulges and shown that they can also contain dust, gas, and star-forming regions. This timely volume presents review articles by a panel of international experts who gathered at a conference at the Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, to address several fundamental questions: What is a bulge? When and how did bulges form? And, on what timescales? This volume provides a state-of-the-art picture of our new understanding of these fundamental building-blocks of galaxies, and a stimulating reference point for all those interested in galaxy formation.
