Book Hissy Fit with Bonus Material

Download or read book Hissy Fit with Bonus Material written by Mary Kay Andrews and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2011-05-24 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special e-book edition of Hissy Fit includes an exclusive sneak-peek at Mary Kay Andrews's soon-to-be published novel Summer Rental, on sale June 7th. Welcome to the world of Mary Kay Andrews, where manners are polished, reputations are tarnished ... and revenge is sweet. Keeley Murdock's wedding to A. J. Jernigan should have been the social event of the season. But when she catches her fiance doing the deed with her maid of honor at the country club rehearsal dinner, all bets are off. And so is the wedding. Keeley pitches the hissy fit of the century, earning herself instant notoriety in the small town of Madison, Georgia. Even worse is the financial pressure A.J.'s banking family brings to bear on Keeley's interior design business. But riding to the rescue -- in a vintage yellow Cadillac -- is the redheaded stranger who's purchased a failing local bra plant. Will Mahoney hires Keeley to redo the derelict antebellum mansion he's bought. Her assignment: decorate it for the woman of his dreams -- a woman he's never met. Only a designing woman like Keeley Murdock can find a way to clear her name and give her cheating varmint of an ex-fiance the comeuppance he so richly deserves. And only Mary Kay Andrews can deliver such delicious social satire. With Hissy Fit, she's created a story as outrageous, dishy, and true as Savannah Blues and Little Bitty Lies.

She thought Brett's body was safely hidden in the depths of the swamp and that no one would ever find out that she'd been the one who helped put him there. Now Gracie is having to work together with Cal Walker, the ex-boyfriend she's still in love with, to clear David of murder and make sure no one ever finds out the truth of what happened to Brett.

This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this rollicking, hilarious comedy, the Doublewide, Texas, gang is back and life in their tiny town has gotten crazier than ever! Just when things are looking up—the population has grown to seventeen mobile homes and a weekend farmers’ market—the rug is pulled out from under the residents yet again. It seems their vacation rental trailer has drawn unwanted attention from a mega-corporation in Austin. Suddenly the corporation is interested in Doublewide. Waaaay too interested. Mayor Joveeta Crumpler is the only one suspicious enough to sound the alarm, but no one is listening. Her mother, Caprice, is too self-involved with her “career” as a local celebrity to sense the growing threat, or to even realize that grumpy old Haywood Sloggett is increasingly drawn to her—and Sloggett is fighting those romantic feelings tooth and nail. Caprice is also hell-bent on keeping her neighbor and rival, Big Ethel Satterwhite, from horning in on her domain—the Stagger Inn bar. Big Ethel has her hands full trying to teach the town’s good-ol’-boy police chief, Baby Crumpler, how to dirty-dance for a countywide competition. But Baby’s got as much chance of winning as Georgia Dean Rudd has of not jinxing her relationship with Nash Sloggett—she’s twisting herself into knots trying to dodge his constant marriage proposals. And as the danger to the town grows, Joveeta can’t even count on the usually reliable and sweet health fanatic Lark Barken—because she’s currently under the spell of a demon she’s only recently discovered: caffeine. But as the tentacles of the corporation envelope them all, can the citizens of this little Texas town put aside their problems and unite behind Joveeta to fight “the big guys” and turn the tide in Doublewide? A heap of hilarity with a whole lot of heart—and a stand-alone play in its own right—HONKY TONK HISSY FIT is the third comedy in the trilogy that begins with Doublewide, Texas and continues with A Doublewide, Texas Christmas. By the triumphant finale of this ferociously funny Jones Hope Wooten comedy (Could there be a double wedding in Doublewide?), you’ll be throwing fits, alright—fits of laughter that’ll make your sides ache!

Book Audiobooks as Artifacts

  • Author : David Seinberg

Download or read book Audiobooks as Artifacts written by David Seinberg and published by Common Ground Research Networks. This book was released on 2024-06-19 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Their ever-evolving popularity notwithstanding, audiobooks remain a rather undertheorized phenomenon. The prevailing handful of existing studies seem to have adopted an inherently historicist approach, which fails to identify and scrutinize their aesthetic importance. Thus, rather than regarding them as mere recorded ‘versions’ of existing literary works, this book explores them as the unique products of a hitherto undefined artistic genre. As performance-based aural artefacts, the very act of listening to them is rendered an aesthetic experience in its own right. By effectively embracing an interdisciplinary approach and introducing a set of aesthetic questions and philosophical conundrums (ignited by a paradigmatic application of the New Institutional Theory of Art), this study establishes a new aesthetic category—which, in turn, not only classifies audiobooks as artworks to all intents and purposes, but also generates the criteria and parameters for evaluating their merit. Since the proof of the proverbial pudding is purportedly in the eating, in surveying a series of concrete case studies—each highlighting different degrees of complexities—this study mainly examines first-person narratives as the most natural medium for the aesthetics of the audiobook. As such, the investigation herein provides one with comparative close listenings, appropriately analyzing and debating their aesthetic properties. Finally, in exploring what this study identifies as one’s informed intuition and its role in the craft of casting audiobooks, this study also proposes a new understating of how aesthetic appreciation works in action.

Download or read book Jobs and Bodies written by Arthur McIvor and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-11-02 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 21st century, radically changing work locations and patterns have jolted society to reflect more on the ways that employment affects the body and the mind. This book provides historical context and insights to aid our understanding of this contemporary crisis, critically examining the history of a neglected area. In this oral-history based study, Arthur McIvor explores the history of health and safety from Second World War to the present, drawing extensively upon workers' own personal stories of occupational accidents, disasters, injury, disease, overwork and disability. It covers a wide range of workplace issues, from stories of TNT poisoning and overwork in wartime, through to the asbestos and black lung disasters, and the modern-day 'epidemics' of stress, burn-out and Covid-19. Opening conversations surrounding the harms caused by work, this book analyses how people have lived with occupational illness and disability, critiquing risk and work-health cultures, and the structural violence characteristic of industrial capitalism and neoliberal economics, in addition to discussing the agency of big business and advocacy of workers and victims. Focusing on class, gender, disability and race, this book uses an impressive range of secondary and primary sources, including government reports and enquiries drawing upon workers' testimonies, Mine and Factory Inspectors Reports, HSE papers, newspapers, Mass Observation responses and oral history interviews.

Book excerpt: I have a reputation. Girls fall over themselves to be with me … except one. The Market Girl, that’s what I call her, and I can’t resist her. Up until a few weeks ago, light flirtatious banter was all that was between us. One-sided flirting - my side. But it worked. We worked. Then the busy-body Quylt sisters paired us together to volunteer. Planning local senior citizen events, of all things. Who would’ve thought by the end of the first event we’d be naked in the theater dressing room, and she’d be screaming out my name? Not me. She’s got rules about guys like me. Rules I respect. But I’ve always been a rule breaking kinda guy. Four events. Four weeks. And we’ll be back to normal. That’s what I keep telling myself. But now that I’ve had her, I want her to be all mine.
