Book Martin Mahalia His Words Her Song

Download or read book Martin Mahalia His Words Her Song written by Andrea Davis Pinkney and published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They were each born with the gift of gospel. Martin's voice kept people in their seats, but also sent their praises soaring. Mahalia's voice was brass-and-butter - strong and smooth at the same time. With Martin's sermons and Mahalia's songs, folks were free to shout, to sing their joy. On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and his strong voice and powerful message were joined and lifted in song by world-renowned gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. It was a moment that changed the course of history and is imprinted in minds forever. Told through Andrea Davis Pinkney's poetic prose and Brian Pinkney's evocative illustration, the stories of these two powerful voices and lives are told side-by-side -- as they would one day walk -- following the journey from their youth to a culmination at this historical event when they united as one and inspiring kids to find their own voices and speak up for what is right.

  • ISBN : 8184752296
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book His Words written by Amiya P Sen and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2010-04-09 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘I found that I had begun to take a great liking for the man . . . Oddly, this did not grow out of any feeling of veneration . . . for that would have implied my being overawed and somewhat fearful in the presence of someone vastly superior. Rather, my feelings grew spontaneously and from the very depths of my heart. I simply revelled in the man’s company.’—Mahendra Nath Dutta (Swami Vivekananda’s brother) on Ramakrishna Press reports in the 1870s Calcutta marvelled at the way ‘highly educated’, ‘civilized’ and ‘reasoning’ men, like Mahendra Nath Dutta, were drawn to the ‘ill clad’, ‘illiterate’, ‘friendless’ and ‘unpolished’ Ramakrishna. The progressive press, which had first brought Ramakrishna to public attention, scoffed at his use of ‘vulgar’ speech, while acknowledging its effectiveness in religious communication. Despite these critiques, Ramakrishna came to occupy an important place in the cultural life of late-nineteenth-century Bengal. Amiya P. Sen’s lucid introductions and fluent translations of the interactions between Ramakrishna and his followers in His Words make for an engaging and illuminating account of Ramakrishna’s teachings. Compiled from a variety of contemporary and near-contemporary sources, this book brings out the dramatic simplicity of Ramakrishna’s incisive commentaries on profound religious ideas. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They didn't know that the quiet child who was growing up was the one whom it was said that all things were made through Him, and without Him, not anything was made that has been made; that in Him, not anything was made that has been made; and that in Him was life (Zoe); and that He was the light of men. The whole world has been expecting a superman. The first superman came as a root out of the dry ground. No one recognized Him. No one knew that God could manifest in the flesh. They didn't know that the logos of God, who had been with God and who was God (Proverb 8:22-30), could have been with them when they were still looking elsewhere. The world has not known that there is a superman in their midst today. They don't know that every new creation is a superman in the embryo and that all that embryo needs is to know what it is, what it can do, what the Father expects it to do, and what the Father has empowered it to be and to do in the world.

Book The Heart His Words My Thoughts

Download or read book The Heart His Words My Thoughts written by Tanya Swygert and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scriptures remind us to diligently guard our hearts, and the Bible helps us see why it is so critical to do so. In Genesis 6:5, the scriptures record that God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the Earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. This wickedness continues today, and with all these maladies, it is no wonder the Word exhorts us to guard our hearts! In The Heart: His Words + My Thoughts, author and minister Tanya Swygert reflects on the important reminder in Proverbs to guard our hearts, and she offers sixteen thought-provoking devotionals about the heart. Sharing her heartfelt messages in a conversational, down-to-earth way, Tanya hopes fellow believers will be inspired to examine their own hearts according to Gods words. Whether it is protecting our hearts from evil and pain or opening up and softening our hearts to love, repair, and joy, God has provided in his Word a way for us to master the task. If our hearts are obstinate, pained, proud, fearful, rebellious, foolish, or blind, we can by Gods grace and mercy learn how to instead guard them and have hearts that are clean, fixed, and pure. We can also have the assurance that Christ will dwell in our hearts by faith, helping us know that the course of life we take will be pleasing in Gods sight.

Book The Resonance of God His Words with Love

Download or read book The Resonance of God His Words with Love written by Willie Wallace and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resonance was initiated by God in the beginning of all of his creation. The Word of God is where resonance first began. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” This is an example of how intense resonance impacts all of God’s creation. This is what makes him omnipresent and makes him a part of each and every one of us. God’s resonance is in his storms. They take on the form of cleansing winds. When there is too much immorality in any area, God sends his storms to clean up the environment. Jeremiah 23:19 says, “Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: It shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.” Nahum 1:3 says, “The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: The Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.” This confirms that we have power with our God and can control what type of weather we have simply by our own behavior. Keeping God’s laws, statues, judgments, and commandments gives us all the blessings that we could ever want.

Book His Words My Pen Volume 1

Download or read book His Words My Pen Volume 1 written by Stuart Hardy-Taylor and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-06-09 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hello, my name is Stuart Hardy-Taylor and I am a recovering alcoholic/addict whom has been saved by the grace of God. Thrown into a life of abuse, drink, drugs and underage sex, which would haunt every day of my life. Through the things I suffered as a child, I used substances to escape the restless taunting in my head from my past. Addiction cost my family, home, job, and almost life and nothing in this world could stop my drinking or taking drugs, until one day in my brokenness I cried out to God and shouted ""Please God help me I'm killing myself, I'm dying, can't you stop me drinking for just one day please?"" He answered me and told me to go to a soup kitchen at the church up the road to see an old friend who had turned to God some years before. These 50 poems recount my journey from addiction to recovery. I pray in faith and hope that these poems will touch hearts and give someone somewhere the hope to reach out in faith that God will answer and transform their lives as he has done to mine.
