Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Certain events in our lives could get our attention in a way that we are unable to look beyond them. Finding the inner strength to push past our current circumstances, would allow us to see that they function as mile markers on the road to our God ordained destiny. Perhaps you are dealing with a storm in your life that overwhelms you - financial difficulty, failing business, marriage, children, aging parents, health; whatever, the challenge may be, know that God is with you and that this trial is part of his larger plan. Having gone through a season of financial hardship, I found myself in a place that I never expected to be after doing all the right things such as planning, tithing, saving, investing and sowing liberally. Thinking that I did something wrong, I tried everything humanly possible to solve this conundrum, but nothing worked. I wondered if God had forsaken me and if so, why. But in the moments when I was at my lowest financially, emotionally and quite frankly felt like giving up, God would reveal himself through a nudge from the Holy Spirit, often through a scripture, a song, closing a deal unexpectedly or some form of reminder that he is with me. His Undeniable Presence chronicles some of the times God's presence was manifested in the eye of my storm, my darkest moments. It covers three stages of the journey, from the valley to guidance to restoration. The devotional messages would inspire and give you hope and courage to endure the challenges you may be facing.

Download or read book The Bressonians written by Codruţa Morari and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2017-07-01 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should we understand film authorship in an era when the idea of the solitary and sovereign auteur has come under attack, with critics proclaiming the death of the author and the end of cinema? The Bressonians provides an answer in the form of a strikingly original study of Bresson and his influence on the work of filmmakers Jean Eustache and Maurice Pialat. Extending the discourse of authorship beyond the idea of a singular visionary, it explores how the imperatives of excellence function within cinema’s pluralistic community. Bresson’s example offered both an artistic legacy and a creative burden within which filmmakers reckoned in different, often arduous, and altogether compelling ways.

Book Witchfinder General

Download or read book Witchfinder General written by Ian Cooper and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-13 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Witchfinder General (1968), known as The Conqueror Worm in America, was directed by Michael Reeves and occupies a unique place in British cinema. Equally praised and vilified, the film fictionalizes the exploits of Matthew Hopkins, a prolific, real-life "witch hunter," during the English Civil War. For critic Mark Kermode, the release proved to be "the single most significant horror film produced in the United Kingdom in the 1960s," while playwright Alan Bennett called the work "the most persistently sadistic and rotten film I've ever seen." Steadily gaining a cult reputation, unimpeded by the director's death just months after the film's release, the film is now treated as a landmark, though problematic, accomplishment, as it exists in a number of recut, retitled, and rescored versions. This in-depth study positions the film within the history of horror and discusses its importance as a British and heritage film. It also considers the inheritance of Hopkins, the script's relationship to the novel by Ronald Bassett, and the iconic persona of the film's star, Vincent Price. Ian Cooper conducts close textual readings of specific scenes and explores the film's various contexts, from the creation of the X certificate and the tradition of Hammer gothic, to the influence on Ken Russell's The Devils (1971) and the "torture porn" of twenty-first-century horror.

Book God s Love Song

Book excerpt: The Canticle of the Creatures “is Francis’s love song. It is Franciscan wholeness, for in it is contained the depth of his prayer and of his life in Christ. In its singing he was singing his dying and his rising, for his song was a journey of praise and thanksgiving for his place of origin and his destination, the Most High, All-Powerful, Good Lord.”—Murray Bodo Using St. Francis’s canticle as a framework, Murray Bodo, a Franciscan friar, and Susan Saint Sing, a secular Franciscan, reflect on the vision of Francis and Clare as it has played out over the course of their own lives. Susan’s experiences of healing during trips to Assisi and praying in nature and Murray’s deep understanding of Francis and Clare as poets and mystics come together in a duet that brings God’s love song to life. These deeply personal reflections explore the power of prayer and meditation, the sacredness of all creation, and the pull of sacred places. This meditative, reflective reading experience conveys what a lifetime of Franciscan spirituality looks like and will draw you into exploring your own experience of the vision of Francis and Clare.
