Book excerpt: Max Lucado's first book that journeys from the birth of Christ to His resurrection. Drawing from his classic writing on Jesus combined with new reflections and breathtaking art, Max Lucado again opens our eyes—and hearts—to the life and work of the Savior in a way that will change lives forever. “Jesus was, at once, common and not; alternately normal and heroic. One minute blending in with the domino players in the park, the next commanding the hell out of madmen, disease out of the dying, and death out of the dead.” Who was this man who spoke as easily with kids and fishermen as widows and waves? It is the question that has echoed down through the centuries to us today, and here is a visually stunning book that answers aspects of that question.

Along the way, he has authored the #1 New York Times bestseller Chutzpah; the bestselling account of the Claus von Bulow case Reversal of Fortune; and the bestselling courtroom drama The Advocate's Devil. For Max, who has discovered Prandus's identity by chance, killing him is not enough, because Prandus is already dying of cancer. How can Max make Prandus suffer exactly as Max himself did? Can Max bring himself to assassinate Prandus's children and grandchildren and make the old man watch his family die, as Max himself was forced to do? By the time defense attorney Abe Ringel enters the case, Max has carried out an astounding act of revenge, and America'sgreat Holocaust trial has begun: an explosive legal and moral struggle to find the light of justice within the darkness of human evil. Download or read book The Opposite Lane written by Acidophilus Bifidus and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-04-15 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 14-year-old born blind Luciana and 28-year-old Russian emigrant Max; two romantic, intelligent and disadvantaged people in Australia, who struggle to find their place in society, but find themselves in rather awkward situations instead. They enjoy communicating with each other by email, but fail to meet in person, although the vicissitudes of fate confront them again and again... The book consists of two parts; Part One is narrated by Luciana, while Part Two contains Max's notes. The humour of the characters is sad and ironic, sometimes rising to outright sarcasm. Their comments are honest, though not void of certain controversy, bias and exaggeration. Complementing each other, they allow to observe the described events from different viewpoints and obtain impartial judgment about the heroes and their actions. The novel contains nude scenes and references to adult themes, however its scope is far wider than that.

Download or read book Patriarch written by David M. Bickman and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2019-01-07 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortly before his death, Abe Bickman (the "Patriarch") gave his son, David, his modest family archive. This archive comprised: an envelope, postmarked in 1948 and with a return address in Brazil, in which were contained several black & white photographs; several letters from relatives in the Ukraine, written in Yiddish in the 1920s; and a military passport issued by the Czarist Russian government in the very early 1900s. The author had the letters and passport translated and then reconnected with relatives in Brazil. He subsequently went to Brazil and met many of his cousins living there, some of whom helped him to locate, and eventually meet, cousins from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Israel and the United States. Bickman's research into his father's family history also involved gathering information from public archives in Canada, the United States and Ukraine, where he found his earliest direct paternal ancestor bearing the family surname (then "Bikman"). Bickman discovered that much of his father's family's history is a microcosm of the history of Eastern European Jewry from 1774 to the present and, in this process, learned much more about himself than he ever anticipated.
