Book The Nurse Or Hints on the Care of the Sick

Download or read book The Nurse Or Hints on the Care of the Sick written by Charles Taylor Harris and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Nurse, or Hints on the Care of the Sick: Including Mothers and Infants, and a Digest of Domestic Medicine The author not long since was sought for, by the husband of a lady in labor; but, professional duty having called him away from his office, he was not readily found. In the abscence of the husband the nurse, in whose charge he had left his wife, became needlessly frightened, and fled for help, leaving the patient to suffer the pangs of maternity alone. Upon the husband's return, accompanied by myself she was found to be a mother, with nobody at hand to render her assistance. How much encouragement and comfort the poor woman would have realized from a calm, firm companion! This incident pointedly illustrates the absolute necessity of assurance as a qualification for a successful nurse. She, then, should have age to give her that assurance, and yet not be so Old as to make her unable to render prompt assistance. She must possess the quick eye to see, and to anticipate wants. If the patient is obliged to ask for everything he wishes, he will soon loose confidence in his nurse, and feel indis posed to trust her in anything. Book Hints and Helps for Home Nursing and Hygiene Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hints and Helps for Home Nursing and Hygiene Classic Reprint written by Macdowel Cosgrave and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hints and Helps for Home Nursing and Hygiene This book is written in the hope that it may be of assistance to all who have to nurse the sick. The arrangement is in conformity with the Syllabus of the Home Nursing Lectures of the St. John Ambulance Association. Although arranged in this form, it is more than a book of lectures, as the subjects are dealt with in fuller detail than could be done by a lecturer in a short course. It is felt that what the members of ambulance classes should have in their hands is, not a book of lectures to compare with those they are listen ing to, but a book of reference, where they can find out what they have forgotten, and get further particulars when desired. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking book, a leading clinical psychiatrist redefines how we think about and treat victims of trauma. A "stunning achievement" that remains a "classic for our generation." (Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., author of The Body Keeps the Score). Trauma and Recovery is revered as the seminal text on understanding trauma survivors. By placing individual experience in a broader political frame, Harvard psychiatrist Judith Herman argues that psychological trauma is inseparable from its social and political context. Drawing on her own research on incest, as well as a vast literature on combat veterans and victims of political terror, she shows surprising parallels between private horrors like child abuse and public horrors like war. Hailed by the New York Times as "one of the most important psychiatry works to be published since Freud," Trauma and Recovery is essential reading for anyone who seeks to understand how we heal and are healed.
