Book Man Made Catastrophic and Humongous Global Disasters

Download or read book Man Made Catastrophic and Humongous Global Disasters written by D. Raveendranathan and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Adverse Manifestation’ has been created to the maximum extent of catastrophic and humongous disasters throughout India, and it is ‘manmade’, which is unfortunate. Similarly, all other greenhouse gas emissions are generated in excess by the floccinaucinihilipilification activities of Homo sapiens causing humongous disasters. If we conduct a detailed study, most of these disasters are also attributed by coercive practices of the ecosystem and the Government without getting concurrence from the public. Man-Made Catastrophic and Humongous Global Disasters delineates hurricanes, cyclones, hail storms, typhoons, tornados, landslides, flood havocs, droughts, fire hazards, etc. as natural disasters caused due to climate change. Therefore, it is our responsibility to keep a pollution-free country for the survival of human beings from catastrophic and humongous disasters.

Book Incontrovertible Impacts of Global Warming

Download or read book Incontrovertible Impacts of Global Warming written by D. Raveendranathan and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-02-21 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Universe is part of the Multiverse – a confluence of countless and infinite numbers of planets with innumerable galaxies unbeknownst to the majority. Earth is unique and is blessed among thousands of other planets with plant life and animals. Homo sapiens are the highest form of living beings on earth. There is more evidence of the impact of climate change, especially in extreme weather events, which is taking a greater toll on life. Science shows that emissions are still going up, not down. According to the 2019 WMO Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have reached another record high. This continuing long-term trend means that future generations will be confronted with increasingly severe impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures, extreme weather, water stress, rising sea levels and disruption of marine and land ecosystems. At present, Greenland is a looming 660,000 square miles of frozen water. At the edge, it might be only tens of feet thick; in the faraway interior, nearly two miles. If all of it were to melt, it would raise global sea levels by about 20 feet. Most scientists think that this can come to pass due to human-induced climate change.

Book Developments Lead to Pollution and Depletion of Natural Resources

Download or read book Developments Lead to Pollution and Depletion of Natural Resources written by D. Raveendranathan and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2018-06-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global warming and climate changes are caused due to excess emission of greenhouse gases mostly from the industries and burning of fossil fuels. At present, there is a deficit of seasonal rainfalls, increase in atmospheric temperature, rising sea levels, scarcity of water for domestic and industrial purposes. There are interstate disputes; even the Apex court finds it difficult to satisfy the agrarian community regarding the equitable distribution of water. Domestic and industrial effluents are released to the natural river courses contaminating the drinking water. Unusual and unprecedented downpour of rainfall caused by cyclonic effects leads to natural disasters such as floods and landslides. On the other end, there are drought and outbreak of diseases caused by bacteria and viruses. There is an imperative need to protect the natural reserves as per the approved norms of National Forest Policy to have a proper carbon sink for the mitigation of excess emission of greenhouse gases. Pollution is on the rise. The air and oceans are highly polluted by the presence of plastics, acids, chemicals, greenhouse gases and other elements. There are changes in the sea temperature due to El Nino and La Nina factors that cause adverse climatic conditions.

Download or read book The Himalayan Cryosphere written by N.C. Pant and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2018-08-31 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Himalaya mountains contain not only one of the largest concentrations of ice outside the polar regions, but contribute to the hydrological requirements of large populations spread over seven nations. The exceptionally high elevations of this low-latitude cryosphere presents a natural laboratory and archives to study climate–tectonics interactions as well as regional v. global climate influences. The existing base-level data on the Himalayan cryosphere are highly variable. Several climate fluctuations occurred during the late Quaternary (MIS1–MIS5, especially the last c. 100 ka), which led to the evolution of the Himalayan landscape. Detailed studies of these archives, along with those of the present cryosphere and related hydrosphere, are essential for understanding the controls on present and future hydrology of the glacial-fed mountain rivers. This volume, a follow-up of the XII International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Science, Goa (A SCAR symposium), provides new data from locales spread over the entire Himalaya region and from Tibet. It provides a glimpse of the late Quaternary cryosphere, as well as a discussion in the last section on sustainability in the context of geohazard mitigations as well as the hydrological budget.

Book DRY DECIDUOUS FORESTS OF KARNATAKA ADDING YEARS TO THEIR LIFE AND TO OURS

Download or read book DRY DECIDUOUS FORESTS OF KARNATAKA ADDING YEARS TO THEIR LIFE AND TO OURS written by DIPAK SARMAH and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-02-05 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dry Deciduous Forests of Karnataka – Adding Years to Their Life, and to Ours attempts at highlighting various aspects of the dry deciduous forests which once covered large parts of the state of Karnataka and which now occur only in a few, scattered pockets, having been almost entirely wiped out from two vast regions covering three-fourths of the state, namely, interior Karnataka and the Eastern Plains. Although not as imposing as the moist deciduous, semi-evergreen and evergreen forests that are met with in the western part of the state, the dry deciduous forests have high ecological value in terms of biodiversity, soil and water conservation, climate moderation, medicinal properties, protection of agricultural land, etc. Although now restricted in patches dispersed over an almost limitless landscape, these forests have tremendous impact on the surrounding environment. More importantly, these are the last vestiges of natural vegetation in an expansive, open and parched region where the ominous signs of desertification are already perceptible. Conservation and development of these forests, by any means and before it is too late, is of utmost importance for the overall protection and amelioration of the surrounding environment of the state. An attempt has been made in the book in analyzing the various factors that were responsible for pushing these forests to their present dismal state, and in offering a few suggestions regarding restoration and rejuvenation of the vanishing forests.

Download or read book Nature s Disciple written by Suhas Kumar and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-06-11 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is set in central Indian forests, largely in Madhya Pradesh—the torch bearer of wildlife management in our country—that also has relevant reference to the forests of Vidarbha region of the neighbouring Maharashtra. The book has arrived as a breath of fresh air and candour at a time when some of the wild animals, specifically the leopards and tigers, in the present context are being viewed by the ill-informed and uncaring section of the society as inimical to the lives of people. While incidents of strife are usually reported from rural India, some of the urban sprawls that fail to rein in their poorly planned expansion across the existing forested tracts on their doorstep, which has been the case of the MP state capital Bhopal, are no exception. While painting the lives of wild creatures with delicate strokes of an artist’s brush, the pages, without breaking stride, deal with men who have wrested as large slices of the natural areas as possible from being lost to the relentless march of ‘development,’ encroachments, and other human activities. There are lessons in the highest levels of conservation leadership without hiding the soft belly of the onerous tasks. There is narrative of large predators in trouble—leopards and tigers; of the local extinction of the large-hearted gentleman, the tiger—so christened by the redoubtable Jim Corbett—in Panna Tiger Reserve a decade ago and the tiger’s remarkable resurrection in the very same area. Of daring experiments, investigations, innovations, and establishment of field-based skills, all carried to their logical conclusion—success. The reader is placed right in the middle of the action! What is more, there is no hiding of problems and some failures.
