Book Hill s Equation II Vol 2

Download or read book Hill s Equation II Vol 2 written by W. Magnus and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hill's Equation, II, Vol. 2: Transformations, Approximation, Examples It is the purpose of the present, second, report on Hill's equation to provide the reader with a few ready made transformation and approximation formulas which may be useful to anyone working on a particular problem. Also; we shall discuss some examples in detail, partly because they illustrate the general theory and partly because they appear frequently in applications. This section on the coexistence problem contains a little more than mere examples. It may be considered as a complete discussion of those results which can be obtained from the investigation of three term recurrence relations. A third part of this report will contain applications of the theory to problems of physics and engineering. Book Maximum Principles for the Hill s Equation

Download or read book Maximum Principles for the Hill s Equation written by Alberto Cabada and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maximum Principles for the Hill's Equation focuses on the application of these methods to nonlinear equations with singularities (e.g. Brillouin-bem focusing equation, Ermakov-Pinney,...) and for problems with parametric dependence. The authors discuss the properties of the related Green's functions coupled with different boundary value conditions. In addition, they establish the equations' relationship with the spectral theory developed for the homogeneous case, and discuss stability and constant sign solutions. Finally, reviews of present classical and recent results made by the authors and by other key authors are included. - Evaluates classical topics in the Hill's equation that are crucial for understanding modern physical models and non-linear applications - Describes explicit and effective conditions on maximum and anti-maximum principles - Collates information from disparate sources in one self-contained volume, with extensive referencing throughout

Book The Discriminant of Hill s Equation Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Discriminant of Hill s Equation Classic Reprint written by Wilhelm Magnus and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Discriminant of Hill's Equation The discriminant of Hill's equation is an analytic funtion.a(l) of the characteristic parameter k appearing in the equation. The zeros of A. 2 and of A.] 2 determine the values X for which the equation has periodic solutions; the intervals between the zeros of A? A determine the region of stability and of instability for the solutions of the equation. Therefore, it is of importance for all practical (i.e. Numer ical) purposes to find expressions for A(l) which may be useful for a computation of the zeros of A? A. Although it is known, in principle, how to find a suitable expansion for A(l), it turns out that the actual computation of the first terms of such an expansion is not an easy task. In Section A of this report, the first four terms of the expansion in question are given explicitly. In the Appendix, the various methods for calculating these terms explicitly are discussed and the steps of the computation are indicated. Book Conquering Mathematics

Download or read book Conquering Mathematics written by Lloyd Motz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have designed and written this book. not as a text nor for the professional mathematician. but for the general reader who is naturally attracted to mathematics as a great intellec tual challenge. and for the special reader whose work requires him to have a deeper understanding of mathematics than he acquired in school. Readers in the first group are drawn to mental recreational activities such as chess. bridge. and various types of puzzles. but they generally do not respond enthusiastically to mathematics because of their unhappy learning experiences with it during their school days. The readers in the secondgrouptum to mathematics as a necessity. but with painful resignation and considerable apprehension regarding their abilities to master the branch ofmathematics they need in their work. In either case. the fear of and revulsion to mathematics felt by these readers usually stem from their earlier frustrating encounters with it. vii viii PREFACE This book will show these readers that these fears, frustrations, and general antipathy are unwarranted, for, as stated, it is not a textbook full of long, boring proofs and hundreds of problems, rather it is an intellectual adventure, to be read with pleasure. It was written to be easily accessible and with concern for the mental tranquilityofthe reader who willexperience considerable fulfillment when he/she sees the simplicity of basic mathematics. The emphasis throughout this book is on the clear explanation of mathematical con cepts.

Book Functional Fractional Calculus

Download or read book Functional Fractional Calculus written by Shantanu Das and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a new extraordinary and outstanding theory is stated, it has to face criticism and skeptism, because it is beyond the usual concept. The fractional calculus though not new, was not discussed or developed for a long time, particularly for lack of its application to real life problems. It is extraordinary because it does not deal with ‘ordinary’ differential calculus. It is outstanding because it can now be applied to situations where existing theories fail to give satisfactory results. In this book not only mathematical abstractions are discussed in a lucid manner, with physical mathematical and geometrical explanations, but also several practical applications are given particularly for system identification, description and then efficient controls. The normal physical laws like, transport theory, electrodynamics, equation of motions, elasticity, viscosity, and several others of are based on ‘ordinary’ calculus. In this book these physical laws are generalized in fractional calculus contexts; taking, heterogeneity effect in transport background, the space having traps or islands, irregular distribution of charges, non-ideal spring with mass connected to a pointless-mass ball, material behaving with viscous as well as elastic properties, system relaxation with and without memory, physics of random delay in computer network; and several others; mapping the reality of nature closely. The concept of fractional and complex order differentiation and integration are elaborated mathematically, physically and geometrically with examples. The practical utility of local fractional differentiation for enhancing the character of singularity at phase transition or characterizing the irregularity measure of response function is deliberated. Practical results of viscoelastic experiments, fractional order controls experiments, design of fractional controller and practical circuit synthesis for fractional order elements are elaborated in this book. The book also maps theory of classical integer order differential equations to fractional calculus contexts, and deals in details with conflicting and demanding initialization issues, required in classical techniques. The book presents a modern approach to solve the ‘solvable’ system of fractional and other differential equations, linear, non-linear; without perturbation or transformations, but by applying physical principle of action-and-opposite-reaction, giving ‘approximately exact’ series solutions. Historically, Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wihelm Leibniz independently discovered calculus in the middle of the 17th century. In recognition to this remarkable discovery, J.von Neumann remarked, “...the calculus was the first achievement of modern mathematics and it is difficult to overestimate its importance. I think it defines more equivocally than anything else the inception of modern mathematical analysis which is logical development, still constitute the greatest technical advance in exact thinking.” This XXI century has thus started to ‘think-exactly’ for advancement in science & technology by growing application of fractional calculus, and this century has started speaking the language which nature understands the best.

Book Enzymology and Molecular Biology of Carbonyl Metabolism 13

Download or read book Enzymology and Molecular Biology of Carbonyl Metabolism 13 written by Henry Weiner and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continuation of an annual series, Enzymology and Molecular Biology of Carbonyl Metabolism is the largest collection of articles on the three major gene families.
