Book Fatigue 96

Download or read book Fatigue 96 written by G. Lütjering and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-05-20 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the 6th International Fatigue Congress, besides covering the entire field of fatigue, was to promote the intimate connection between basic science and engineering application by the selection of appropriate session topics.Fatigue is the main cause of failure of engineering structures and components. Making reliable fatigue predictions is highly difficult because knowledge about fatigue mechanisms in all stages of the fatigue process must be developed much further. In addition, the decreasing availability of raw materials and energy resources forces engineers to continually reduce the weight of constructions. This congress presents research results also particularly for new materials, including composites. Researchers, on the other hand, are confronted with the engineering demands. Futhermore, the overwhelming development which is presently taking place in the field of computer software and hardware dealing with fatigue problems is outlined along with the directions of future developments in all areas of fatigue.Close to 300 fully peer-reviewed papers are published in the proceedings, including nearly 30 overview and keynote papers covering the various session topics. The proceedings should therefore serve as a comprehensive review of the fatigue field at the present state-of-the-art, suitable for scientists, engineers and students.

Book On Thermal Fatigue of Nickel Based Superalloys

Download or read book On Thermal Fatigue of Nickel Based Superalloys written by CC. Engler-Pinto and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thermal fatigue (TF) behaviour of two single crystal nickel-based super-alloys, SRR99 and CMSX-4, is reported. Single edge wedge specimens are rapidly heated by induction heating of the wedge tip to a maximum temperature between 1000‡C and 1175‡C and cooled to 200‡C by forced air. A constant cycle period is employed for all experiments. The strain distribution along the edge of the TF specimens is measured. Changing the induction frequency leads to different strain ranges. CMSX-4 shows crack initiation always on cast microporosities. SRR99 presents an additional oxidation/spalling/re-oxidation mechanism under low strain loading. An "integrated approach" combining TF and TMF (thermo-mechanical fatigue) is proposed. The applied TMF temperature-strain cycle is deduced from the measured TF-cycle. Under this new temperature-strain cycle the crack initiation life and the total life in TMF for SRR99 are compared with the TF results.

Book Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading Mechanisms Mechanics and Modelling

Download or read book Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading Mechanisms Mechanics and Modelling written by J. Bressers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium "Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading", held at Petten (The Netherlands) on May 22-24, 1995, was jointly organized by the Institute for Advanced Materials of The Joint Research Centre, E. C. , and by the Societe Fran~se de Metallurgie et de Materiaux. The fast heating and cooling cycles experienced by many high temperature components cause thermally induced stresses, which often operate in combination with mechanical loads. The resulting thermal / mechanical fatigue cycle leads to material degradation mechanisms and failure modes typical of service cycles. The growing awareness that the synergism between the combined thermal and mechanical loads can not be reproduced by means of isothermal tests, has resulted in an increasing interest in thermal and thermo-mechanical fatigue testing. This trend has been reinforced by the constant pull by industry for more performant, yet safer high temperature systems, pushing the materials to the limit of their properties. Dedicated ASTM meetings in particular have set the scene for this area of research. The proceedings of the symposium organized by D. A. Spera and D. F. Mowbray in 1975 provided a reference book on thermal fatigue which reflects the knowledge and experimental capabilities of the mid-seventies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nickel Base Single Crystals Across Length Scales is addresses the most advanced knowledge in metallurgy and computational mechanics and how they are applied to superalloys used as bare materials or with a thermal barrier coating system. Joining both aspects, the book helps readers understand the mechanisms driving properties and their evolution from fundamental to application level. These guidelines are helpful for students and researchers who wish to understand issues and solutions, optimize materials, and model them in a cross-check analysis, from the atomistic to component scale. The book is useful for students and engineers as it explores processing, characterization and design. - Provides an up-to-date overview on the field of superalloys - Covers the relationship between microstructural evolution and mechanical behavior at high temperatures - Discusses both basic and advanced modeling and characterization techniques - Includes case studies that illustrate the application of techniques presented in the book

Book Collaborative Research on Thermo Mechanical and Isothermal Low Cycle Fatigue Strength of Ni Base Superalloys and Protective Coatings at Elevated Temperatures in The Society of Materials Science Japan JSMS

Download or read book Collaborative Research on Thermo Mechanical and Isothermal Low Cycle Fatigue Strength of Ni Base Superalloys and Protective Coatings at Elevated Temperatures in The Society of Materials Science Japan JSMS written by Y. Yamazaki and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of collaborative research by "Subcommittee on Superalloys and Coatings" in The Society of Materials Science, Japan (JSMS), are presented, which cover the thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF) and high temperature isothermal low-cycle fatigue (ILCF) strengths of Ni-Base superalloy, substrate alloys and the protective coatings. Three kinds of Ni-base superalloys were selected as the substrate: a single crystal alloy, CMSX-4; a directionally solidified alloy, CM247LC; and a polycrystalline alloy, IN738LC. On these substrate specimens the CoNiCrAlY alloy was coated by 250 ?m in thickness by low pressure plasma spraying, and then aluminized. This process was managed and undertaken by one of member companies of the Subcommittee. The round robin TMF and ILCF tests were carried out under a strain ratio of -1 at temperature ranged between 400 and 900°C. In the former the tests were performed under the out-of-phase and diamond phase conditions in which the phase difference between strain and temperature were 180° and 90°, respectively. It is shown by the round-robin tests that the TMF lives, as well as the ILCF, were strongly dependent on the substrate alloys. Many important, or noteworthy results were also found: e.g., the TMF fracture behavior of the coated specimens revealed some unique characteristics that were hardly deduced from that of the bare specimens. The effect of coating on the ILCF life was strongly dependent on the temperature. It was not reasonable, or difficult to try to estimate the TMF life of the coatings from the ILCF test results. Based on the observations on the crack initiation, propagation and the fracture surface, the effects of the substrate alloy and the coating on the TMF and ILCF lives were discussed.
