This book was released on 1991 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 1, 1989 work was initiated on a project to extend the available vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) model for coal fluids to allow satisfactory predictions of excess enthalpies of coal liquids at high pressures. The available vapor liquid equilibrium model was developed with support from previous grant from DOE-PETC (Grant no. DE-FG22-89PC90541). The current project also involves measurement of some model compound VLE data and chromatographic characterization of coal liquids for distribution of heteroatoms. A computational thermodynamic model for VLE, excess enthalpies and heat capacities of coal derived liquids has been developed. The model uses the modified UNIFAC correlation for the liquid phase. Some unavailable UNIFAC interactions parameters have been regressed from experimental VLE and excess enthalpy data. The computations are carried out using the method of continuous thermodynamics. Mode is used to derive interesting conclusions on the effect of oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur heteroatoms on the thermodynamic properties of coal liquids. When compared with limited experimental data available for coal liquids the model shows good agreement. Some progress has been made on binary VLE measurements and size exclusion chromatography of coal liquids.

Book High Temperature High Pressure Thermodynamic Measurements for Coal Model Compounds Semiannual Technical Progress Report September 1 1995 February 29 1996

Download or read book High Temperature High Pressure Thermodynamic Measurements for Coal Model Compounds Semiannual Technical Progress Report September 1 1995 February 29 1996 written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objective of this project is to develop a better thermodynamic model for predicting properties of high-boiling coal derived liquids, especially the phase equilibria of different fractions at elevated temperatures and pressures. The development of such a model requires data on vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE), enthalpy, and heat capacity which would be experimentally determined for binary systems of coal model compounds and compiled into a database. The data will be used to refine existing models such as UNIQUAC and UNIFAC. A M.S. graduate student Mr. Ahmad Al-Ghamdi has been recruited to work on this project. The flow VLE apparatus designed and built for a previous project has been upgraded and recalibrated for data measurements for this project. The modifications include better and more accurate sampling technique and addition of a digital recorder to monitor temperature, pressure and liquid level inside the VLE cell. VLE data measurements for system benzene-ethylbenzene have begun. The vapor and liquid compositions will be measured using the Perkin-Elmer Auto-system gas chromatograph. A capillary column made by Supelco has been purchased for the analysis. For enthalpy and heat capacity measurements, SETARAM C-80 calorimeter has been purchased and installed. The instrument can be used for calorimetric property measurements at temperatures up to 300°C and pressures up to 1500 psi. Enthalpy measurements for the system benzene-ethylbenzene have begun. Simultaneously, we have undertaken the design of a calorimetric cell that will allow enthalpy measurements at pressures up to 10000 psi. In this report the VLE apparatus and the preliminary work completed for the VLE measurements for the benzene-ethylbenzene system are described. A description of the calorimeter and the measured enthalpy data for the benzene-ethylbenzene system will be included in the next report. 3 figs., 5 tabs.

Book HIGH TEMPERATURE HIGH PRESSURE THERMODYNAMIC MEASUREMENTS FOR COAL MODEL COMPOUNDS

Download or read book HIGH TEMPERATURE HIGH PRESSURE THERMODYNAMIC MEASUREMENTS FOR COAL MODEL COMPOUNDS written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vapor Liquid Equilibrium measurement setup of this work was first established several years ago. It is a flow type high temperature high pressure apparatus which was designed to operate below 500 C temperature and 2000 psia pressure. Compared with the static method, this method has three major advantages: the first is that large quantity of sample can be obtained from the system without disturbing the equilibrium state which was established before; the second is that the residence time of the sample in the equilibrium cell is greatly reduced, thus decomposition or contamination of the sample can be effectively prevented; the third is that the flow system allows the sample to degas as it heats up since any non condensable gas will exit in the vapor stream, accumulate in the vapor condenser, and not be recirculated. The first few runs were made with Quinoline-Tetralin system, the results were fairly in agreement with the literature data . The former graduate student Amad used the same apparatus acquired the Benzene-Ethylbenzene system VLE data. This work used basically the same setup (several modifications had been made) to get the VLE data of Ethylbenzene-Quinoline system.

Book Phase equilibrium and volumetric properties of coal derived fluids

Download or read book Phase equilibrium and volumetric properties of coal derived fluids written by Oklahoma State University. School of Chemical Engineering and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data have been obtained at 100°C on the volumetric properties of three binary gas systems: hydrogen + methane, hydrogen + carbon dioxide and methane + carbon dioxide. Interaction virial coefficients evaluated from these data are estimated to be precise to ± 0.5 cc/gmol. In the vapor--liquid equilibrium study, the equipment and analytical techniques have been refined and data acquisition has begun. K-values have been measured at 220°F and pressures from 200 to 2,000 psia on the multicomponent system methane, ethane, propane, toulene, 1-methylnaphthalene. Precision of the data is estimated to vary from 2% for methane to 10% for 1-methylnaphthalene.
