Download or read book High Sensitivity Tests of the Standard Model for Electroweak Interactions Scientific Progress Report 16 January 1991 15 January 1992 written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work done on this project was focussed mainly on LAMPF experiment E969 known as the MEGA experiment, a high sensitivity search for the lepton family number violating decay [mu] → e[gamma] to a sensitivity which, measured in terms of the branching ratio, BR = [[mu]→e[gamma]]/[[mu]→e [nu]{sub {mu}} [nu]{sub e}] ≈10−13 is over two orders of magnitude better than previously reported values. The work done on MEGA during this period was divided between that done at Valparaiso University and that done at LAMPF. In addition, some contributions were made to a proposal to the LAMPF PAC to perform a precision measurement of the Michel [rho] parameter, described below.

Book Precision Tests of the Standard Electroweak Model

Download or read book Precision Tests of the Standard Electroweak Model written by Paul Langacker and published by World Scientific Publishing Company Incorporated. This book was released on 1994-10-31 with total page 950 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and the properties of the Z and W bosuns have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the programme are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results and prospects.

Book 60 Years Of Cern Experiments And Discoveries

Download or read book 60 Years Of Cern Experiments And Discoveries written by Herwig Schopper and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a compilation of the most important experimental results achieved during the past 60 years at CERN - from the mid-1950s to the latest discovery of the Higgs particle. Covering the results from the early accelerators at CERN to those most recent at the LHC, the contents provide an excellent review of the achievements of this outstanding laboratory. Not only presented is the impressive scientific progress achieved during the past six decades, but also demonstrated is the special way in which successful international collaboration exists at CERN.

Book Fundamentals Of Electroweak Theory Second Edition

Download or read book Fundamentals Of Electroweak Theory Second Edition written by Jiri Horejsi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-06-11 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the lecture course taught by the author for about three decades at Charles University. The author gives a thorough and easy-to-read account of the basic principles of the standard model of electroweak interactions, describes various theories of electromagnetic and weak interactions, and explains the gauge theory of electroweak interactions. The criterion of the tree-level unitarity is used throughout the text to check the gradual steps leading to the renormalizable electroweak theory. Five appendices expound on some special techniques of the Standard Model, used in the main body of the text. The book can be read with just a preliminary knowledge of quantum field theory. In comparison with the first edition of the book published more than 20 years ago, new passages concerning the Higgs boson are added, as well as some new problems and solutions.

Book Collected Papers of Carl Wieman

Download or read book Collected Papers of Carl Wieman written by Carl E. Wieman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 827 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl Wieman's contributions have had a major impact on defining the field of atomic physics as it exists today. His ground-breaking research has included precision laser spectroscopy; using lasers and atoms to provide important table-top tests of theories of elementary particle physics; the development of techniques to cool and trap atoms using laser light, particularly in inventing much simpler, less expensive ways to do this; the understanding of how atoms interact with one another and light at ultracold temperatures; and the creation of the first Bose-Einstein condensation in a dilute gas, and the study of the properties of this condensate. In recent years, he has also turned his attention to physics education and new methods and research in that area. This indispensable volume presents his collected papers, with annotations from the author, tracing his fascinating research path and providing valuable insight about the significance of the works.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative text provides a lively, thought-provoking and informative summary of neutrino astrophysics. Neutrino astronomy is being revolutionized by the availability of new observational facilities. Theoretical work in astrophysics and in particle physics in increasing rapidly. The subject of solar neutrinos has many seemingly independent aspects, both in its theoretical basis (involving nuclear, atomic, and particle physics, geochemistry, and astronomy). For many physicists, solar neutrinos constitute the low-energy frontier of high-energy physics. Results from all these disciplines are combined here, providing a timely and unified discussion of the field. Each chapter begins with a succinct overview of material to be presented and ends with an annotated bibliography. For advanced undergraduate students, but will be essential reading for all researchers interested in the physics of neutrinos and what they reveal about the nature of the Universe.
