Book Flow visualization of Three dimensional Boundary layer Separation on Bodies of Revolution at Incidence

Download or read book Flow visualization of Three dimensional Boundary layer Separation on Bodies of Revolution at Incidence written by Taeyoung Han and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface streamline patterns on three bodies of revolution, namely a spheroid, a low-drag body and a hemisphere-hemispheroid combination body, have been examined at several angles of attack. Most of the tests were performed at low Reynolds numbers in a hydraulic flume using colored dye to make the surface flow visible. A limited number of experiments was also carried out in a wind tunnel, using wool tufts, to study the influence of Reynolds number and turbulent separation. The study has verified some of the important qualitative features of three-dimensional separation criteria proposed earlier by Maskell, Lighthill, Wang and others. The observed locations of laminar separation lines on a spheroid at various incidences have been compared with the numerical boundary-layer solutions of Wang, and it is suggested that the quantitative differences may be attributed to the significant viscous-inviscid interaction, especially at large incidences. Book Inhibition of Flow Separation at High Speed

Download or read book Inhibition of Flow Separation at High Speed written by Frederick K. Goodwin and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the last part of a four-part series of reports describing an investigation of the inhibition of boundary-layer separation of the free-interaction type at high speeds through the use of surface cooling. The purpose of this report is to extend the other work of the authors to configurations representative of axisymmetric compression spikes. The analysis is developed and a computer program written for a spike which consists of a conical nose on which separation occurs followed by compression surface. No data were found to compare with the theory. A calculation made with the pressure gradient prescribed by the body shape rather than by free interaction is compared with experiment. The comparisons, which were made for skin friction, heat transfer, and pressure distributions, were good. The significant effect of wall cooling in delaying separation for the prescribed pressure gradient case is shown. It is also shown that a free-interaction solution can be joined to a prescribed pressure gradient solution so that the solution will go smoothly through separation to reattachment.

Book Physics of Separated Flows Numerical Experimental and Theoretical Aspects

Download or read book Physics of Separated Flows Numerical Experimental and Theoretical Aspects written by Klaus Gersten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains 37 contributions in which the research work is summarized which has been carried out between 1984 and 1990 in the Priority Research Program "Physik abgeloster Stromungen" of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Society). The aim of the Priority Research Program was the inten sive research of the whole range of phenomena associated with separated flows. Physi cal models as well as prediction methods had to be developed based on detailed experi mental investigations. It was in accordance with the main concept of the research program that scientists working on problems of separated flows in different technical areas of application participated in this program. The following fields have been represented in the program: aerodynamics of wings and bodies, aerodynamics of auto mobiles, turbomachinery, ship hydrodynamics, hydraulics, internal flows, heat exchan gers, bio-fluid-dynamics, aerodynamics of buildings and structures. In order to concentrate on problems common in all those areas the emphasis of the program was on basic research dealing with generic geometric configurations showing the fundamental physical phenomena of separated flows. The engagement and enthusiasm of all participating scientists are highly appreciated. The program was organized such that all researchers met once a year to report on the progress of their work. Special thanks ought to go to Prof. E. A. Muller (Gottingen), Prof. H. Oertel jun. (Braunschweig), Dr. W. Schmidt (Dornier), Dr. H. -W. Stock (Dornier) and Dr. B. Wagner (Dornier), who had the functions of referees on those annual meetings.

Book Twenty Third Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics

Download or read book Twenty Third Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Vive la Revolution!" was the theme of the Twenty-Third Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics held in Val de Reuil, France, from September 17-22, 2000 as more than 140 experts in ship design, construction, and operation came together to exchange naval research developments. The forum encouraged both formal and informal discussion of presented papers, and the occasion provides an opportunity for direct communication between international peers. This book includes sixty-three papers presented at the symposium which was organized jointly by the Office of Naval Research, the National Research Council (Naval Studies Board), and the Bassin d'Essais des Carènes. This book includes the ten topical areas discussed at the symposium: wave-induced motions and loads, hydrodynamics in ship design, propulsor hydrodynamics and hydroacoustics, CFD validation, viscous ship hydrodynamics, cavitation and bubbly flow, wave hydrodynamics, wake dynamics, shallow water hydrodynamics, and fluid dynamics in the naval context.
