Book excerpt: High Resolution Site Surveys brings together the full range of site surveying techniques for the first time, to provide a unified approach to marine and land-based resolution surveying.Detailed descriptions are given of digital seismic survey methods, hydrographic 'analogue' search and survey tools, non-seismic survey techniques, and positioning sy

Book High resolution Seismic Exploration

Download or read book High resolution Seismic Exploration written by Qing-Zhong Li and published by SEG Books. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capitalizing on knowledge learned over decades and combining underlying theory with practical bases, this book presents a systematic analysis of the issues involved in high-resolution seismic exploration. Translated from the original Chinese edition published in 1993 by Petroleum Industry Press and now updated to reflect contemporary developments, the book is adept at clarifying the objectives and approaches toward better precision in seismic prospecting. It provides innovative views on fundamental concepts including: perspective resolution and perspective S/N; the empirical relationship between compressional velocity (Vp) and absorption coefficient (Q); constructing basin absorption models; understanding sand layer tracking; improving dynamic and static corrections of near-surface effects as well as deconvolution; achieving maximum effective bandwidth of seismic data; and regressive seismic impedance inversion. It is an excellent reference for those involved in seismic prospecting research, data processing, and geologic interpretation, and it is recommended for workers as well as professors and graduate students.

Book High resolution Seafloor Survey and Applications

Download or read book High resolution Seafloor Survey and Applications written by Ziyin Wu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the survey technology, post-processing technology, mapping technology and scientific application of the submarine topography and geomorphology in detail. High-resolution submarine geomorphology is a frontier branch of marine geology and marine surveying and mapping, which provides a direct basis to study the seabed surface, to understand the tectonic movement and submarine evolution. In the past two decades, high-resolution submarine geomorphology with high-precision multi-beam echo sounding, side-scan sonar and sub-bottom profiler as the major techniques, is developing very quickly and is one of the frontiers of international marine science and technology. These high techniques promote the traditional submarine geomorphology to high-resolution and quantitative research. At present, high-resolution submarine geomorphology is widely used in the delimitation of the continental shelf, the international seabed resources survey, marine engineering and marine military applications. In order to facilitate readers to understand how to acquire and apply scientific research based on submarine topographic data, it highlights the combination of theory, technology and scientific application. This book is useful as a reference for professional and technical personnel in related fields and also as a textbook for both graduate and undergraduate students as well.

Book Glaciogenic Reservoirs and Hydrocarbon Systems

Download or read book Glaciogenic Reservoirs and Hydrocarbon Systems written by M. Huuse and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2012 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Glaciogenic reservoirs and hydrocarbon systems occur intermittently throughout the stratigraphic record, with particular prominence in Neoproterozoic, Late Ordovician, Permo-Carboniferous and Late Cenozoic strata. Recent interest in glaciogenic successions has been fuelled by hydrocarbon discoveries in ancient glaciogenic reservoirs in North Africa, the Middle East, Australia and South America. Glaciogenic deposits of Pleistocene age are noteworthy for their content of groundwater onshore and potentially prospective and/or hazardous gas accumulations offshore. The abundant imprints of Pleistocene glaciations in both hemispheres can be used to reconstruct complex histories of repeated ice cover and retreat, and glacier-bed interactions, thus informing our view on the dynamics of older ice caps and predictions of future glaciations. This volume aims to provide a better understanding of glaciogenic processes, their stratigraphic record and reservoir characteristics of glaciogenic deposits. The book comprises 3 overview papers and 16 original case studies of Neoproterozoic to Pleistocene successions on 6 continents and will be of interest to sedimentologists, glaciologists, geophysicists, hydrologists and petroleum geologists alike."-- P. 4 of cover.

Book High Resolution Seismic Reflection to Characterize and Plan Remediation at Hazardous Waste Sites

Download or read book High Resolution Seismic Reflection to Characterize and Plan Remediation at Hazardous Waste Sites written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents cost and performance data for the three-dimensional (3-D) seismic reflection survey technique used to generate a high-resolution, 3-D imaging of subsurface geologic, subsurface hydro-geologic, and subsurface dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) contaminant source areas at four selected Department of Defense (DoD) sites. This project was sponsored by the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) and managed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC) Port Huneme, CA. NFESC contracted with Battelle Memorial Institute (Contract No. N47408-95-D-0730) to perform the project work. The four sites selected were Letterkenny Army Depot near Chambersburg, PA; Alameda Naval Air Station, Alameda, CA; Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, OK; and Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, Mineral County, WV. At Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, the seismic survey and an extensive sampling effort were funded and conducted outside of this project. Furthermore, at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, only geologic predictions, and not DNAPL targets, were investigated. The objective of the project was to verify that the 3-D seismic reflection survey is a viable technique for rapidly and effectively performing DNAPL source delineation and high-resolution site characterization. This objective would be met if 90% of the predictions for DNAPL contamination generated from the 3-D seismic survey results were verified to be correct, based on analysis of groundwater samples taken from within the surveyed regions. As a secondary objective, the surveys were also used to demonstrate high-resolution site characterization, by using the seismic output to interpret the depth to bedrock and the depth to fracture zones at several of the sites.

Book Handbook of Geophysical Cavity locating Techniques with Emphasis on Electrical Resistivity

Download or read book Handbook of Geophysical Cavity locating Techniques with Emphasis on Electrical Resistivity written by Keith G. Kirk and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is primarily a description of the methodology of using earth resistivity techniques for locating cavities. Only a small portion of the handbook will be devoted to the theoretical considerations behind these techniques. However, the annotated bibliography cites ample literature to satisfy the needs of the theoretician. Along with earth resistivity techniques, several geophysical techniques will be examined in lesser detail with respect to cavity location. Micro-gravity, high-resolution seismic reflection profiling, and ground probing radar were selected because they show good success rates in cavity detection. High-resolution seismic profiling shows particularly good promise as an effective tool in cavity location. Techniques in photo interpretation will also be discussed with regard to possible cavity location.
