Book Handbook of High Resolution Infrared Laboratory Spectra of Atmospheric Interest 1981

Download or read book Handbook of High Resolution Infrared Laboratory Spectra of Atmospheric Interest 1981 written by Aaron Goldman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The handbook presents spectra to be utilized for the detection and measurement of new constituents in the earth's atmosphere and to obtain data for common minor species with large gas amounts in the absorption cell (such as CH/sub 4/ and N/sub 2/O). These results can be applied in the identification of absorption features in atmospheric spectra determined over long atmospheric paths. The spectra were recorded with Fourier Transform Spectrometers which are more precise than grating spectrometers. Each molecule spectrum was plotted on two scales: a condensed scale covering the range from 75 to 300/cm in one frame, and an expanded view covering 20 or 10/cm per frame. Each plot contains the name of the molecule, chemical formula, the gas pressure, cell length, and estimated resolution of the spectrum.

Book High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide at Elevated Temperatures

Download or read book High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide at Elevated Temperatures written by Mark P. Esplin and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although both Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide are minor constituents of the terrestrial atmosphere, they play leading roles in several current atmospheric problems. Both CO2 and N2O are greenhouse gases, and while it is known that the atmospheric concentrations of both gases is increasing, the impact of these trends on global temperature is not yet adequately understood. In addition to being a greenhouse gas, N2O plays an indirect part in ozone chemistry. Heating a molecule makes possible the observations of molecular transitions originating from highly excited rotation-vibration states. Heating a molecule makes possible the observations of molecular transitions originating from highly excited rotation-vibration states. These observations can then be used to characterize the shape of the molecular potential function at increasing distances from the minimum of the potential function. The infrared spectra of linear molecules like CO2 and N2O are composed of vibration bands made up of a number of nearly equally spaced rotation lines. A Fourier Spectrometer is ideally suited to the study of high temperature gases since it meets both of these needs by providing high resolution over a wide spectral region.

Book Infrared Spectroscopy of Symmetric and Spherical Top Molecules for Space Observation Volume 2

Download or read book Infrared Spectroscopy of Symmetric and Spherical Top Molecules for Space Observation Volume 2 written by Pierre-Richard Dahoo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-09-15 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Volume 4 in the series, is dedicated to the relationship between laboratory spectroscopy, recording ever-more-complex spectra using increasingly powerful instruments benefiting from the latest technology, and the development of observation using instruments that are embedded in mobile probes or nanosatellites. The theoretical models described in Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are used in this volume, applying the cumulant theorem in the mean-field theory framework to interpret the near and mid-infrared spectra of symmetric top molecules, such as ammonia (NH3) and spherical molecules, such as methane (CH4). These molecules can be isolated in their gaseous form or subjected to the environmental constraints of a nano-cage (a substitution site, clathrate, fullerene or zeolite) or surfaces. These methods are not only valuable in the fields of environmental sciences, planetology and astrophysics, but also fit into the framework of data processing and the concept of Big Data.

Book High Resolution Infrared Absorption Spectra of Methane Molecules Isolated in Solid Parahydrogen Matrices

Download or read book High Resolution Infrared Absorption Spectra of Methane Molecules Isolated in Solid Parahydrogen Matrices written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present high resolution (approx. = 0.01/cm) infrared absorption spectra of the V4 band of methane doped parahydrogen (CH4/pH2) solids produced by two different techniques: gas condensation in an enclosed cell at T approx. =8 K, and rapid vapor deposition onto a T approx. =2 K substrate in vacuum. The spectrum of the rapid vapor deposited solid contains a novel progression of single peaks with 5/cm spacing, superimposed over the known spectrum of CH4 molecules trapped in sites of D3h symmetry in hexagonal close-packed (hcp) solid pH2. New theoretical calculations of the rovibrational transitions of a tetrahedral molecule in an external field of Oh symmetry permit the assignment of this new progression to CH4 molecules trapped in crystalline face centered cubic (fcc) regions of the pH2 solid. Annealing of the rapid vapor deposited samples to T approx. =5 K decreases the intensities of the CH4/pH2(fcc) absorptions, and results in intensity changes for parallel and perpendicularly polarized CH4/pH2(hcp) transitions. We discuss these phenomena, and the narrow (0.01 to 0.04/cm FWHM) absorption linewidths, in terms of the microscopic structure of the pH2 hosts.

Book Infrared Spectroscopy of Symmetric and Spherical Spindles for Space Observation 1

Download or read book Infrared Spectroscopy of Symmetric and Spherical Spindles for Space Observation 1 written by Pierre-Richard Dahoo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to the description and application of various different theoretical models to identify the near and mid-infrared spectra of symmetric and spherical top molecules in their gaseous form. Theoretical models based on the use of group theory are applied to rigid and non-rigid molecules, characterized by the phenomenon of tunneling and large amplitude motions. The calculation of vibration-rotation energy levels and the analysis of infrared transitions are applied to molecules of ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4). The applications show how interactions at the molecular scale modify the near and mid-infrared spectra of isolated molecules, under the influence of the pressure of a nano-cage (the substitution site of a rare gas matrix, clathrate, fullerene or zeolite) or a surface, and allow us to identify the characteristics of the perturbing environment. This book provides valuable support for teachers and researchers but is also intended for engineering students, working research engineers and Masters and doctorate students.

Book High Resolution Spectroscopy to Support Atmospheric Measurements

Download or read book High Resolution Spectroscopy to Support Atmospheric Measurements written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-16 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major research activities performed during the cooperative agreement enhanced our spectroscopic knowledge of molecules of atmospheric interest such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, ozone, methane, and carbon monoxide, to name a few. Measurements were made using the NASA Langley Tunable Diode Laser Spectrometer System (TDL) and several Fourier Transform Spectrometer Systems (FTS) around the globe. The results from these studies made remarkable improvements in the line positions and intensities for several molecules, particularly ozone and carbon dioxide in the 2 to 17-micrometer spectral region. Measurements of pressure broadening and pressure induced line shift coefficients and the temperature dependence of pressure broadening and pressure induced line shift coefficients for infrared transitions of ozone, methane, and water vapor were also performed. Results from these studies have been used for retrievals of stratospheric gas concentration profiles from data collected by several Upper Atmospheric Research satellite (UARS) infrared instruments as well as in the analysis of high resolution atmospheric spectra such as those acquired by space-based, ground-based, and various balloon- and aircraft-borne experiments. Our results made significant contributions in several updates of the HITRAN (HIgh resolution TRANsmission) spectral line parameters database. This database enjoys worldwide recognition in research involving diversified scientific fields. Benner, D. Chris and Venkataraman, Malathy Devi Langley Research Center
