Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral Methods in Transition Metal Complexes provides a conceptual understanding on how to interpret the optical UV-vis, vibrational EPR, and NMR spectroscopy of transition metal complexes. Metal complexes have broad applications across chemistry in the areas of drug discovery, such as anticancer drugs, sensors, special materials for specific requirements, and catalysis, so a thorough knowledge in preparation and characterization of metal complexes, while niche, is critical. Accessible to both the seasoned researcher and the graduate student alike, this book provides readers with a single source of content that addresses spectral methods in transition metal complexes. Provides readers with a single reference on metal complexes and coordination compounds Contains more than 100 figures, tables, and illustrations to aid in the retention of key concepts Authored by a scientist with nearly 40 years of experience in research and instruction

Book Infrared Spectroscopy of Nonclassical Ions and Their Complexes

Download or read book Infrared Spectroscopy of Nonclassical Ions and Their Complexes written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes an infrared spectroscopic study on the structures and dynamics of the nonclassical ions and their complexes, using ion trap vibrational predissociation spectroscopy. Chapter One provides an introduction to the experimental apparatus used in this work. Chapter Two describes the previous theoretical and experimental works on the carbonium ion CH5 and infrared spectroscopic and theoretical works on CH5. CH5+ was predicted to scramble constantly without possessing a stable structure. In Chapter Three, the infrared spectroscopy for the molecular hydrogen solvated carbonium ions CH5+(H2){sub n} (n=1-6) in the frequency region of 2700-4200 cm−1 are presented and compared with the results of ab initio molecular dynamics simulation on CH5+(H2){sub n} (n=0-3). The results suggested that the scrambling of CH5+ slowed down considerably by the stabilization effects of the solvent H2 molecules, and it was completely frozen out when the first three H2 molecules were bound to the core CH5+. Chapter Four presents the complete infrared spectra for the solvated carbonium ions, CH5+(A)(subscript x)(B){sub y} (A, B=H2, Ar, N2, CH4;x, y=0-5) in the frequency region of 2500-3200 cm−1. As the binding affinities of the solvent molecules and the number of the solvent molecules in the clusters increased, the scrambling of CH5+ slowed down substantially. The structures of the solvated carbonium ions and the evidence for rapid proton transfer in CH5+(CH4) were also presented. Chapter Five presents the vib-rotational spectrum for the H-H stretching mode of the silanium ion SiH5+. The results suggested that SiH5+ can be described as a complex of SiH3+ and a freely internally rotating H2, analogous to, but distinct from CH5+.

Book Applications of Infrared Spectroscopy in Biochemistry Biology and Medicine

Download or read book Applications of Infrared Spectroscopy in Biochemistry Biology and Medicine written by Frank Parker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not intended to be a basic text in infrared spectroscopy. Many such books exist and I have referred to them in the text. Rather, I have tried to find applications that would be interesting to a variety of people: advanced undergraduate chemistry students, graduate students and research workers in several disciplines, spectros copists, and physicians active in research or in the practice of medicine. With this aim in mind there was no intent to have exhaustive coverage of the literature. I should like to acknowledge my use of several books and reviews, which were invaluable in my search for material: G. H. Beaven, E. A. Johnson, H. A. Willis and R. G. 1. Miller, Molecular Spec troscopy, Heywood and Company, Ltd., London, 1961. J. A. Schell man and Charlotte Schellman, 'The Conformation of Polypeptide Chains in Proteins," in The Proteins, Vol. II, 2nd Ed. (H. Neurath, ed.), Academic Press, New York, 1964. R. T. O'Connor, "Application of Infrared Spectrophotometry to Fatty Acid Derivatives," J. Am. Oil Chemists' Soc. 33, 1 (1956). F. L. Kauffman, "Infrared Spectroscopy of Fats and Oils," J. Am.
