Book High Range Resolution Radar Cross section Profiles

Download or read book High Range Resolution Radar Cross section Profiles written by Stephen D. Elton and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following provides a brief and informal account of an analysis technique used by the Electronic Warfare Division (EWD) to produce high range resolution radar cross-section (RCS) profiles of maritime targets. We begin by giving a simple theoretical discussion of the basic principle behind the technique employed, and then move on to describe the computer program used to carry out the first stage of the RCS analysis and make comparison with other work. High range resolution RCS profiles, were derived for a maritime target with the use of a coherent radar system developed by the Microwave Radar Division (MRD). Synthetic range profiles were obtained for the ship by exploiting the reciprocal relationship that exists, in the context of the present work, between range and frequency and by employing a fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm to evaluate the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT). The technique is referred to in the literature as stepped frequency imaging. Keywords: Active and passive radar detection and equipment, Radar cross section, Australia, EWD, RCS. (JG).

Book Radar Cross Section Measurements

Download or read book Radar Cross Section Measurements written by Eugene F. Knott and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original campus of the University of Michigan was nearly a perfect square about a half-mile along a side. A street-sized walk, appropriately called the Diag, runs diagonally across this square, connecting its southeast and northwest corners. In 1904 a new engineering building was either started or finished (I do not remember which) to house classrooms. When another engineering building was built on the expanded campus across the street from it many years later, the old building came to be known as West Engine, to distinguish it from the new East Engine. Old West Engine is (or maybe by now, was) a four-story, L-shaped structure that stood at the southeast corner of the original campus. It was built with an arch in it to straddle the Diag at the apex of the L. You walked over the Engineering Arch to get from one leg of the L to the other if you were inside the building, and you walked under it when you entered the campus from the southeast corner. Affixed to the masonry wall of the arch was a plaque I often noted in passing. It bore a quote attributed to Horace Greeley (1811-1872), who I did not know at the time was the founder, editor, and publisher of the New York Tribune. It said, simply, Young man, when theory and practice differ, use your horse sense. The suggestion seems worthy of an exclamation point instead of a period, but I do not remember if it had one.

Book The Ambiguity Function of the Stepped Frequency Radar

Download or read book The Ambiguity Function of the Stepped Frequency Radar written by Jen-Chih Huang and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High range resolution radar systems have many advantages such as target classification, resolution of multiple target, accurate range profile and detection of low radar cross section (RCS) targets in clutter. High range resolution requires large bandwidths. Stepped frequency waveforms can achieve high range resolution by increasing the effective bandwidth without increasing the instantaneous bandwidth which would increase the hardware requirements including higher analog to digital (AID) sampling rates which are limited by existing technology. Under today's hardware limitations, the stepped frequency waveform becomes very important. This thesis briefly discusses the stepped frequency radar and associated signal processing, it investigates the ambiguity function of the stepped frequency waveform and the stepped frequency radar system. Mathematical expressions of ambiguity functions are derived and the improvement of clutter suppression capability for the stepped frequency radar by rejecting initial pulses is also discussed.

Book Radar Cross Section

Download or read book Radar Cross Section written by Eugene F. Knott and published by SciTech Publishing. This book was released on 2004-06-30 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The leading text and reference on radar cross section (RCS) theory and applications, this work presents a comparison of two radar signal strengths. One is the strength of the radar bean sweeping over a target, the other is the strength of the reflected echo senses by the receiver. This book shows how the RCS "gauge" can be predicted for theoretical objects.

Book Introduction to Radar Target Recognition

Download or read book Introduction to Radar Target Recognition written by P. Tait and published by IET. This book was released on 2005 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book text provides an overview of the radar target recognition process and covers the key techniques being developed for operational systems. It is based on the fundamental scientific principles of high resolution radar, and explains how the underlying techniques can be used in real systems, taking into account the characteristics of practical radar system designs and component limitations. It also addresses operational aspects, such as how high resolution modes would fit in with other functions such as detection and tracking.

Book Handbook of Radar Signal Analysis

Download or read book Handbook of Radar Signal Analysis written by Bassem R. Mahafza and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new handbook on radar signal analysis adopts a deliberate and systematic approach. It uses a clear and consistent level of delivery while maintaining strong and easy-to-follow mathematical details. The emphasis of this book is on radar signal types and their relevant signal processing and not on radar systems hardware or components. This handbook serves as a valuable reference to a wide range of audience. More specifically, college-level students, practicing radar engineers, as well as casual readers of the subject are the intended target audience of the first few chapters of this book. As the book chapters progress, these grow in complexity and specificity. Accordingly, later chapters are intended for practicing engineers, graduate college students, and advanced readers. Finally, the last few chapters contain several special topics on radar systems that are both educational and scientifically entertaining to all readers. The presentation of topics in this handbook takes the reader on a scientific journey whose major landmarks comprise the different radar subsystems and components. In this context, the chapters follow the radar signal along this journey from its birth to the end of its life. Along the way, the different relevant radar subsystems are analyzed and discussed in great detail. The chapter contributors of this new handbook comprise experienced academia members and practicing radar engineers. Their combined years of academic and real-world experiences are in excess of 175. Together, they bring a unique, easy-to-follow mix of mathematical and practical presentations of the topics discussed in this book. See the "Chapter Contributors" section to learn more about these individuals.
