Book Review of Physics Results from the Tevatron

Download or read book Review of Physics Results from the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a summary of results from studies of quantum chromodynamics at the Fermilab Tevatron collider by the CDF and the D0 experiments. This review covers a wide spectrum of topics, and includes measurements with jet and vector boson final states in the hard (perturbative) energy regime, as well as studies of soft physics such as diffractive and elastic scatterings, underlying and minimum bias events, hadron fragmentation, and multiple parton interactions.

Book Recent QCD Results from the Tevatron

Download or read book Recent QCD Results from the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four years after the shutdown of the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider, the two Tevatron experiments, CDF and DZero, continue producing important results that test the theory of the strong interaction, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The experiments exploit the advantages of the data sample acquired during the Tevatron Run II, stemming from the unique pp initial state, the clean environment at the relatively low Tevatron instantaneous luminosities, and the good understanding of the data sample after many years of calibrations and optimizations. A summary of results using the full integrated luminosity is presented, focusing on measurements of prompt photon production, weak boson production associated with jets, and non-perturbative QCD processes.

Book QCD Physics at the Tevatron

Download or read book QCD Physics at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results on recent QCD measurements performed at the Tevatron p{bar p} Collider at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV are here reported. The inclusive jet and dijet mass cross sections are compared to NLO pQCD calculations and to Run I results. The production rates and kinematic properties of W + jets production processes are compared to ''enhanced'' LO theoretical predictions. Non-perturbative ''soft'' interactions leading to the underlying event are studied and compared to QCD Monte Carlo phenomenological models.

Book Electro Weak QCD and Top Physics at the Tevatron

Download or read book Electro Weak QCD and Top Physics at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1992--1993 Tevatron collider run ended yesterday. [approx]21 (16)pb[sup [minus]1] of p[bar p] collisions at [radical]S = 1800 GeV were collected at CDF (D0). New measurements of the W and Z cross section x branching ratios indicate that [Gamma](W) is 2.033 [plus-minus] 0.069 [plus-minus] 0.057 GeV. The upper limit for the top quark mass, if it is produced in W decays, is 62 GeV/c[sup 3]. Gauge boson pair production studies are beginning to constrain electro-weak parameters. No neutral gauge bosons with mass> M[sub z] have appeared. Inclusive jet production and angular distribution studies are compared to NLO perturbative QCD predictions. A new topological jet analysis from CDF is sensitive to the low x gluon distribution. The direct photon cross section shows a steeper fall-off with E[sub t] than does the theory prediction. D0 has one candidate t[bar t] event in the dilepton mode. The lower limit on M[sub T[sub op]] has been raised to 99 GeV/c[sup 2].

Download or read book QCD as a Theory of Hadrons written by Stephan Narison and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 813 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2004 book provides a pedagogical introduction to the perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The text introduces the basic theory of QCD and its historical development, covering pre-QCD ideas of strong interactions such as the quark and parton models, the notion of colours and the S-matrix approach. The author then discusses gauge theory, techniques of dimensional regularization and renormalization, deep inelastic scattering and hard processes in hadron collisions, hadron jets and e+e- annihilations. Other topics include power corrections and the technologies of the Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov operating product expansion. The final parts of the book are devoted to modern non-perturbative approaches to QCD and the phenomenological aspects of QCD spectral sum rules. The book will be a valuable reference for graduate students and researchers in high-energy particle and nuclear physics, both theoretical and experimental. This book has been reissued as an Open Access publication on Cambridge Core.

Download or read book Photon Physics at the LHC written by Michael Hance and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-08 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports on the first studies of Standard Model photon production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) using the ATLAS detector. Standard Model photon production is a large background in the search for Higgs bosons decaying into photon pairs, and is thus critical to understand. The thesis explains the techniques used to reconstruct and identify photon candidates using the ATLAS detector, and describes a measurement of the production cross section for isolated prompt photons. The thesis also describes a search for the Higgs boson in which the analysis techniques used in the measurement are exploited to reduce and estimate non-prompt backgrounds in diphoton events.

Book The QCD Vacuum Hadrons and Superdense Matter

Download or read book The QCD Vacuum Hadrons and Superdense Matter written by E. V. Shuryak and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable book is an extensive set of lecture notes on various aspects of non-perturbative quantum chromodynamics ? the fundamental theory of strong interaction on which nuclear and hadronic physics is based. The original edition of the book, written in the mid-1980's, had more of a review style. In the second edition the outline remains the same, but the text has been completely rewritten, and extended. Apart from the new developments over the years, this edition has benefited from several graduate courses which the author has taught at Stony Brook during the last decade. The text is now complemented by exercises and has a total of about 1000 references to major works, arranged by subject.Three major issues ? the structure of the QCD vacuum, the structure of hadrons, and the physics of hot/dense matter ? are addressed as physics problems. Therefore, when discussing any specific subject, the book attempts to incorporate (1) all the solid theoretical results, (2) experimental information, and (3) results of numerical (lattice) simulations, which are playing an increasing role in quantum field theory in general, and the development of QCD in particular. The QCD Vacuum, Hadrons and Superdense Matter takes the reader from the first encounter with the subject to the front line of research, as quickly as possible.
