Book High Pressure Spectroscopic Studies of AlGaAs GaAs and II VI and Other Semiconductors and Heterostructures

Download or read book High Pressure Spectroscopic Studies of AlGaAs GaAs and II VI and Other Semiconductors and Heterostructures written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We summarize our work over the last five years on high pressure studies using optical techniques such as photoluminescence, photoreflectance and Raman scattering of GaAs/AlAs superlattices, polycrystalline and amorphous powder samples of phenylene-type polymers and oligomers, ordered and disordered GaInP2, and ZnCdSe heterostructures. In order to modulate interatomic electronic interactions in the conventional semiconductors and to study both intrachain and interchain interactions in the conjugated polymers, these investigations were performed at hydrostatic pressures up to 70 kbar and in a temperature range of 20 to 300 K. We report characteristic changes of the emission spectrum which depend on both the molecular environment as well as the intramolecular bond configuration.

The first is a temperature study of a pseudomorphic epilayer of ZnSe on GaAs, where we measured the temperature dependence of the interlayer biaxial strain. The measurement was performed via photomodulation spectroscopy, tracking the splitting of the heavy - light hole transition energies. This method provides an accurate and direct measure of the strain. In the second study we investigated the pressure dependence of the polarized modulated optical reflectivity in an ordered alloy of InGaP2 as a function of hydrostatic pressure, and determined the pressure coefficients of the direct transitions as well as observed the indirect crossover. In the third study we compared the pressure behaviour of ordered and random alloy quantum wells of ZnCdSe/ZnSe in order to understand the confinement of the wavefunction in the ordered vs. random alloy materials. Finally, we have studied the temperature dependence of deformation potentials related the GAMMA-X crossover in GaAs/AlAs superlattices.

Book Spectroscopic Studies of GaAs AlGaAs Superlattices Under Hydrostatic and Uniaxial Pressures at 8 to 300K

This book was released on 1990 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on our spectroscopy investigations of bulk semiconductors and quantum well heterostructures under hydrostatic pressures at low temperatures (5 to 300K). We have studied several semiconducting materials: bulk AlGaAs, GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well heterostructures (QWH), GaSb/AlSb QWH, and the II-VI alloys, CdMnTe. The motivating factor in all the studies was to use pressure as a tool to uncover fundamental properties of the materials that were directly of value in the design of devices. In order to conduct these studies we have become, to our knowledge, the only group in the world that conducts photoreflectance measurements under pressure in a diamond anvil cell. We are also known for our photoluminescence study at low temperatures and high pressures. In the GaAs/AlGaAs QWH we made a direct measurement of the valence band offset via an elegant pressure measurement, settling a controversy that was ten years old when we reported it in 1986. The VB offset is the single most important quantity that determines the design of GaAs/AlGaAs devices. (JES).

Book GaAs and Related Materials

Download or read book GaAs and Related Materials written by Sadao Adachi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the various material properties of bulk GaAs and related materials, and aspects of the physics of artificial semiconductor microstructures, such as quantum wells and superlattices, made of these materials. A complete set of the material properties are considered in this book. They are structural properties; thermal properties; elastic and lattice vibronic properties; collective effects and some response characteristics; electronic energy-band structure and consequences; optical, elasto-optic, and electro-optic properties; and carrier transport properties. This book attempts to summarize, in graphical and tabular forms, most of the important theoretical and experimental results on these material properties. It contains a large number of references useful for further study. Timely topics are discussed as well. This book will be of interest to graduate students, scientists and engineers working on semiconductors.

Book Optoelectronic Properties of Inorganic Compounds

Download or read book Optoelectronic Properties of Inorganic Compounds written by D. Max Roundhill and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to offer the reader a snapshot of the field of optoelectronic materials from the viewpoint of inorganic chemists. The field of inorganic chemistry is transforming from one focused on the synthesis of compounds having interesting coordination numbers, structures, and stereochemistries, to one focused on preparing compounds that have potentially useful practical applica tions. Two such applications are in the area of optics and electronics. These are fields where the use of inorganic materials has a long history. As the field of microelectronics develops the demands on the performance of such materials increases, and it becomes necessary to discover compounds that will meet these demands. The field of optoelectronics represents a merging of the two disciplines. Its emergence is a natural one because many of the applications involve both of these properties, and also because the electronic structure of a metal compound that confers novel optical properties is often one that also influences its electron transfer and conductivity characteristics. Two of the more important growth areas that have led to these developments are communications and medicine. Within the communications field there is the microelectronics that is involved in information storage and transmittal, some of which will be transferred into the optical regime. Within the medical field there are chemical probes that transmit analytical information from an in vivo environment. This information needs to be readily accessible from an external site, and then quickly converted into images or data that yield accurate and inexpensive diagnoses.

Book D X Centres and other Metastable Defects in Semiconductors Proceedings of the INT Symposium Mauterndorf Austria 18 22 February 1991

Download or read book D X Centres and other Metastable Defects in Semiconductors Proceedings of the INT Symposium Mauterndorf Austria 18 22 February 1991 written by W. Jantsch and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first reports on metastable defects in III-V and II-VI compound semiconductors appeared in the late 1960s, the number of reports on defects with metastable states has been growing at an ever increasing rate. D(X)-center and other metastability defects cause many technical problems that are exacerbated by the uncertainty and controversy surrounding the mechanisms that cause them. A lively mix of theoretical and experimental discussions, D(X)-Centres and other Metastable Defects in Semiconductors presents a timely investigation of these systems. The book discusses topics such as, the validity of negative or positive U models, as well as alternative views that challenge existing ideas. The richness and precision of experimental data now emerging in the field is chronicled as are new investigative techniques. Based on an INT symposium, this book provides a successful forum where an extraordinary variety of ideas, including new perspectives, are examined critically.
