Book Group Type Hydrocarbon Standards for High Performance Liquid Chromatographic Analysis of Middistillate Fuels

Download or read book Group Type Hydrocarbon Standards for High Performance Liquid Chromatographic Analysis of Middistillate Fuels written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for group-type analysis of middistillate fuels is described. It uses a refractive index detector and standards that are prepared by reacting a portion of the fuel sample with sulfuric acid. A complete analysis of a middistillate fuel for saturates and aromatics (including the preparation of the standard) requires about 15 min if standards for several fuels are prepared simultaneously. From model fuel studies, the method was found to be accurate to within 0.4 vol% saturates or aromatics, and provides a precision of + or - 0.4 vol%. Olefin determinations require an additional 15 min of analysis time. However, this determination is needed only for those fuels displaying a significant olefin response at 200 nm (obtained routinely during the saturated/aromatics analysis procedure). The olefin determination uses the responses of the olefins and the corresponding saturates, as well as the average value of their refractive index sensitivity ratios (1.1). Studied indicated that, although the relative error in the olefins result could reach 10 percent by using this average sensitivity ratio, it was 5 percent for the fuels used in this study. Olefin concentrations as low as 0.1 vol% have been determined using this method. Otterson, D. A. and Seng, G. T. Glenn Research Center NASA-TP-2317, E-1931, NAS 1.60:2317

Book Quantitative Determination of Hydrocarbon Group Types Via High Performance Liquid Chromatography with Dielectric Constant Detection

Download or read book Quantitative Determination of Hydrocarbon Group Types Via High Performance Liquid Chromatography with Dielectric Constant Detection written by P. C. Hayes (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dielectric constant (DC) detector for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the basis of an accurate and versatile hydrocarbon group-type analysis of petroleum-and shale-derived distillate fuels. The method can saturates (+ olefins), alkyl benzenes, and polycyclic aromatics in hydrocarbon liquids below 600 C. The HPLC separation is achieved with three columns in series, i.e., two (2) five micrometer Partisil PAC columns preceding a ten micrometer TENF column, and using n-butyl chloride as the mobile phase. A simple three-component standard mixture is all that is required to calibrate the method. The DC detector ensures a genuine uniformity of response (less than 2.5% RSD) for each hydrocarbon group-type independent of the carbon-number distribution of the sample. Based on simple and complex hydrocarbon standard solutions, the accuracy for each structural group-type is within 2% absolute with a chromatographic limit of detection of approximately 150 ng for a late eluting solute (biphenyl).

Book The Application of High Performance Liquid Chromatography to the Analysis of Petroleum Materials Part 1 Qualitative Hydrocarbon type Analysis

Download or read book The Application of High Performance Liquid Chromatography to the Analysis of Petroleum Materials Part 1 Qualitative Hydrocarbon type Analysis written by George E. Fodor and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary study is presented for a method for the hydrocarbon type analysis of petroleum, its products and related substances by liquid chromatography. Elution volumes of normal-, iso-, and cyclo-paraffins, mono- and diolefins, aromatic hydrocarbons and vic-dibromo alkanes were determined by high performance liquid chromatography on 10 micrometer and 37-75 micrometer silica gel.

Book Liquid Chromatographic Analysis of Hydraulic Fluids

Download or read book Liquid Chromatographic Analysis of Hydraulic Fluids written by Gary L. Hagnauer and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a versatile analytical technique for the separation and detection of components in complex chemical mixtures. HPLC test methods are developed to fingerprint the chemical compositions and to quantitatively analyze specific components in hydraulic fluids. Petroleum-base and synthetic hydrocarbon-base hydraulic fluids conforming to existing Military Specifications and used by the U.S. Army Materiel Development and Readiness Command are considered in this report. Detailed methods and test procedures are developed for the analysis of a MIL-H-6083D hydraulic fluid. The precision and accuracy of each method is evaluated. Suggestions are made regarding the implementation of the methods in Military Specifications, in field testing, and in the development of hydraulic fluids. (Author).

Book A Guide to the HPLC Literature 1980 1981

Download or read book A Guide to the HPLC Literature 1980 1981 written by Henri Colin and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1984 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HPLC has largely contributed to the development of pharmacology, biology, food research and the biomedical sciences, as demonstrated by the growing number of meetings dedicated to this topic and by the proliferation of companies offering equipment, products or services for HPLC users. It is becoming highly difficult to follow the current literature, particularly in the area of applications.
