Download or read book High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure written by P. Catillon and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure covers the proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure, held in Versailles on July 6-10, 1981. The book focuses on the processes, reactions, and methodologies involved in high energy physics and nuclear structure. The selection first offers information on experiments on antinucleon-nucleon, baryonium, nucleon-nucleon, and dibaryons and the quark model pion and the goldstone pion. Discussions focus on antinucleon-nucleon and baryonium, nucleon-nucleon and dibaryon, and spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. The text also ponders on quarks and nuclei, multiquark resonant states, and electron scattering from complex nuclei. The publication elaborates on electromagnetic interactions on light nuclei, electromagnetic interactions with nuclei at high momentum transfer, and inelastic electron scattering at low energy. The book also touches on the dynamics of hadron nucleus interactions, hypernuclei and interactions of kaons with nuclei, and pion-nucleus scattering theory. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in high energy structure and nuclear physics.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In preparing the program for this Conference, the third in the series, it soon became evident that it was not possible to in clude in a conference of reasonable duration all the topics that might be subsumed under the broad title, "High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure. " From their initiation, in 1963, it has been as much the aim of these Conferences to provide some bridges between the steadily separating domains of particle and nuclear physics, as to explore thoroughly the borderline territory between the two - the sort of no-man's-land that lies unclaimed, or claimed by both sides. The past few years have witnessed the rapid development of many new routes connecting the two major areas of 'elementary par ticles' and 'nuclear structure', and these now spread over a great expanse of physics, logically perhaps including the whole of both subjects. (As recently as 1954, an International Conference on 'Nuclear and Meson Physics' did, in fact, embrace both fields!) Since it is not now possible to traverse, in one Conference, this whole network of connections, still less to explore the entire ter ritory it covers, the choice of topics has to be in some degree arbitrary. It is hoped that ours has served the purpose of fairly exemplifying many areas where physicists, normally separated by their diverse interests, can find interesting and important topics which bring them together.

Book Electron Scattering From Complex Nuclei V36A

Download or read book Electron Scattering From Complex Nuclei V36A written by Herbert Uberall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron Scattering from Complex Nuclei, Part A covers the historical phases of experimental development in elastic and inelastic electron scattering. This five-chapter text presents the logical development of the underlying theory of electron scattering. After briefly discussing the history of electron scattering from nuclei, this book goes on describing the theory of elastic scattering from a point nucleus, both with Born approximation and the accurate solution of the Dirac equation, as well as the corresponding experiments. The following chapter considers the analysis of nuclear charge distributions experiments using Born cross section and phase-shift methods. A chapter is devoted to the complete elastic and inelastic Born theory. This chapter also deals with the derivation of a theorem on the general form of the electron-nucleus scattering cross section, with an emphasis on the influence of the neglected transverse interaction on the cross section. The last chapter presents the status of elastic scattering along with some topics in muonic atoms that also determine nuclear charge densities. This book will be of great benefit to physicists, researchers, and graduate students who are interested in nuclear structure problems.

Book excerpt: Nuclear Structure covers material usually discussed in courses about nuclear structure. The presentation, although recommends and not necessarily requires the reader to have some knowledge of introductory nuclear physics at an elementary or undergraduate level, requires a good knowledge of the elements of quantum mechanics, including an introduction to Dirac theory. The text covers topics such as nucleon-nucleon forces, the boson-exchange model, high-energy electron scattering, and the single particle shell model. Also covered are topics such as single-particle potentials, spin-orbit interactions, the individual-particle model, states of different nuclei, electromagnetic interactions with nuclei, and beta-decay. The book is recommended for nuclear physics students who have background knowledge on nuclear structure and would like to know more about the topic.

Book New Vistas in Electro Nuclear Physics

Download or read book New Vistas in Electro Nuclear Physics written by Edward L. Tomusiak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute "New Vistas in Electro-Nuclear Physics" was held in Banff, Alberta, Canada from August 22 to September 4, 1985. This volume con tains the lecture notes from that Institute. The idea to organize this Institute coincided with the award of funding for a pulse stretcher ring at the University of Saskatchewan's Linear Accelerator Laboratory. This together with the high level of interest in electron accelerators worldwide convinced us that it was an appropriate time to discuss the physics to be learned with such machines. In particular that physics which requires high energy and/or high duty cycle accelerators for its extraction was intended to be the focus of the Institute. Thus the scope of the lec tures was wide, with topics ranging from the structure of the trinucleons to quark models of nucleons, QCD, and QHD. The theme however was that we are just trying to under stand the nucleus and that the electromagnetic probe can serve as a powerful tool in such a quest.

This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rms charge radius of /sup 3/He was measured to be 1.90 +- 0.05 fm by means of low momentum transfer electron scattering at the National Bureau of Standards. A report to be submitted for publication is being prepared. In July a fifth (e, e') spectrum was measured at NBS for the /sup 20/Ne giant resonance region. The analysis of /sup 20/Ne data without the need of an arbitrary quasielastic continuum contribution is completed. The region between the neutron and proton thresholds is dominantly of electric quadrupole character, and that above the proton threshold of electric dipole character. Form factors were extracted. Magnetic elastic scattering was measured for /sup 25/Mg at the Bates Electron Linear Accelerator of Middleton, Massachusetts. A fixed scattering angle of 160/sup 0/, and electron energies between 140 and 270 MeV were used. The ground state M5 form factors were extracted after corrections were made for Coulomb scattering contributions at 160/sup 0/. Forward-angle data taken at Mainz, Germany in a U. Mass.-Mainz collaborative experiment were used in making these corrections and in extracting C2, and for the first time, C4 moments. At the I.K.O. laboratory of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, M1 and some M3 form factor points were measured. Thus information on form factors of all possible multipoles was obtained.

Book Electron Scattering for Nuclear and Nucleon Structure

Download or read book Electron Scattering for Nuclear and Nucleon Structure written by John Dirk Walecka and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scattering of high-energy electrons from nuclear and nucleon targets provides a microscope for examining the structure of these tiny objects. The best evidence we have on what nuclei and nucleons actually look like comes from electron scattering. This 2001 book examines the motivation for electron scattering and develops the theoretical analysis of the process. It discusses our theoretical understanding of the underlying structure of nuclei and nucleons at appropriate levels of resolution and sophistication, and summarizes experimental electron scattering capabilities. Only a working knowledge of quantum mechanics and special relativity is assumed, making this a suitable textbook for graduate and advanced undergraduate courses. It will also provide a valuable summary and reference for researchers already working in electron scattering and other areas of nuclear and particle physics. This text has been reissued as an Open Access publication.
