Book High Accuracy Laser Power and Energy Meter Calibration Service NIST SP 250 62

Download or read book High Accuracy Laser Power and Energy Meter Calibration Service NIST SP 250 62 written by nist and published by . This book was released on 2013-12-23 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document describes the high-accuracy laser power andenergy meter calibration service provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Calibrations are performed by dirct substitution of a test detector with a cryogenic laser radiometer, traceable to NIST electrical standards. The service currently supports measurements with laser powers from 0.1 to 1.0 mW, at several vacuum wavelengths in the range from 458 to 1550 nm. The expanded uncertainty (with a coverage factor of k = 2) of calibrations based on the primary standard typically ranges from 0.02 to0.05 %. A detailed description of the measurement system and uncertainty analysis is presented.

Book NIST Measurement Services

Download or read book NIST Measurement Services written by John H. Lehman and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document describes a calibration service for absolute spectral-responsivity measurements of laser power meters, optical-fiber power meters, and detectors used with lasers and optical-fiber connectors at wavelengths between 400 nm and 1800 nm. In addition to a summary of the calibration procedure, a theoretical basis is given for the uncertainty assessment, as well as an overview of the measurement system and operating procedures. A sample calibration report is included in this document that is similar to that which is provided to the customer. The calibration report contains absolute responsivity in terms of amps per watt at each wavelength increment and a summary of the uncertainty assessment for the meter.

Book Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States

Download or read book Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-07-29 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scores of talented and dedicated people serve the forensic science community, performing vitally important work. However, they are often constrained by lack of adequate resources, sound policies, and national support. It is clear that change and advancements, both systematic and scientific, are needed in a number of forensic science disciplines to ensure the reliability of work, establish enforceable standards, and promote best practices with consistent application. Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward provides a detailed plan for addressing these needs and suggests the creation of a new government entity, the National Institute of Forensic Science, to establish and enforce standards within the forensic science community. The benefits of improving and regulating the forensic science disciplines are clear: assisting law enforcement officials, enhancing homeland security, and reducing the risk of wrongful conviction and exoneration. Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States gives a full account of what is needed to advance the forensic science disciplines, including upgrading of systems and organizational structures, better training, widespread adoption of uniform and enforceable best practices, and mandatory certification and accreditation programs. While this book provides an essential call-to-action for congress and policy makers, it also serves as a vital tool for law enforcement agencies, criminal prosecutors and attorneys, and forensic science educators.
