Download or read book Hierarchical Operations and Supply Chain Planning written by Tan C. Miller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hierarchical and Supply Chain Planning describes the application of hierarchical planning techniques to all major functional areas of supply chain planning, including production, distribution, warehousing, transportation, inventory management, forecasting and performance management. The book reviews well-known, original hierarchical production planning techniques and implementations dating back several decades and numerous more current hierarchical planning methods and applications covering an array of supply chain activities. A number of novel hierarchical planning techniques and algorithms covering different components of supply chain planning are offered as is an original approach for integrating supply chain measurements into systems such as the balanced scorecard which evaluate total firm performance. The book covers the interests of private industry practitioners, academic researchers, and students of operations, logistics and supply chain management and planning.

Book Design Models for Hierarchical Organizations

Download or read book Design Models for Hierarchical Organizations written by Richard M. Burton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design Models for Hierarchical Organizations: Computation, Information, and Decentralization provides state-of-the-art research on organizational design models, and in particular on mathematical models. Each chapter views the organization as an information processing entity. Thus, mathematical models are used to examine information flow and decision procedures, which in turn, form the basis for evaluating organization designs. Each chapters stands alone as a contribution to organization design and the modeling approach to design. Moreover, the chapters fit together and that totality gives us a good understanding of where we are with this approach to organizational design issues and where we should focus our research efforts in the future.

Book Hierarchical Production Planning and Scheduling in the Apparel Industry

Download or read book Hierarchical Production Planning and Scheduling in the Apparel Industry written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The independent nature of current scheduling methodology can lead to conflict and inefficiences. Short term production schedules may not be consistent with daily operational capabilities. Thus, establishing a formal link between long-term, short-term, and daily planning procedures would ensure consistency and can result in more efficient operations. Hierarchical production planning and scheduling is proposed to formally link long-term, short term, and daily planning tasks.

Book An Integrated Approach in Production Planning and Scheduling

Download or read book An Integrated Approach in Production Planning and Scheduling written by Stephane Dauzere-Peres and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production Management is a large field concerned with all the aspects related to production, from the very bottom decisions at the machine level, to the top-level strategic decisicns. In this book, we are concerned with production planning and scheduling aspects. Traditional production planning methodologies are based on a now widely ac cepted hierarchical decom?osition into several planning decision levels. The higher in the hierarchy, the more aggregate are the models and the more important are the decisions. In this book, we only consider the last two decision levels in the hierarchy, namely, the mid-term (or tacticaQ planning level and the short-term (or operationaQ scheduling level. In the literature and in practice, the decisions are taken in sequence and in a top-down approach from the highest level in the hierarchy to the bottom level. The decisions taken at some level in the hierarchy are constrained by those already taken at upper levels and in turn, must translate into feasible objectives for the next lower levels in the hierarchy. It is a common sense remark to say that the whole hierarchical decision process is coherent if the interactions between different levels in the hierarchy are taken into account so that a decision taken at some level in the hierarchy translates into a feasible objective for the next decision level in the hierarchy. However, and surpris ingly enough, this crucial consistency issue is rarely investigated and few results are available in the literature.

Book Hierarchical Operations and Supply Chain Planning

Download or read book Hierarchical Operations and Supply Chain Planning written by Tan C. Miller and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title describes the application of hierarchical planning techniques to all the major functional areas of supply chain planning, including production, distribution, warehousing, transportation, inventory management, forecasting and performance management. In particular, the book provides a comprehensive review and understanding of how hierarchical planning techniques and principles can contribute to the effective and efficient management and planning of supply chain activities. The book begins with a review of some well-known, original hierarchical production planning techniques and implementations dating back several decades. Building on this historical base, it then reviews numerous more current hierarchical planning methods and applications covering a wide array of supply chain activities. Additionally, the book offers a number of new and original hierarchical planning techniques and algorithms covering different components of supply chain planning.

Book On the Design of Hierarchical Production Planning Systems

Download or read book On the Design of Hierarchical Production Planning Systems written by Gabriel Richard Bitran and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To provide effective managerial support to the decisions related to the production planning and scheduling processes, it is useful to partition this set of decisions in a hierarchical framework. In the resulting system higher level decisions impose constraints to lower level actions, and lower level decisions provide the necessary feedback to reevaluate higher level actions. The purpose of this paper is to suggest optimum procedures to deal with the resulting subproblems, and to analyze the interaction mechanisms among the different hierarchical levels. Computational results are given. (Author).
