Book Hidden Treasures of the Black Range

Download or read book Hidden Treasures of the Black Range written by Marshall Bulle and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For those who have never heard of the Lost Adams Diggings, this book will introduce you to a story that is almost beyond belief. We would not have believed it ourselves had it not been for the overwhelming evidence we found. This story not only actually happened, but it took place in 1863, in the wild and rugged Black Range of New Mexico. For those of you who know the story well, you are in for a surprise. The Black Range, once referred to as "The Devil Mountains" by the Spanish had long hidden this lost gold mine from the outside world, along with other dark secrets, for well over a century. When Larry Ditzer and I first began searching some of the higher elevations of New Mexico's wild and rugged Black Range for an old Spanish cannon, once seen there by cowboy Walt Nichols in the 1950s, we sure never dreamed it would eventually lead us to the location of the famous Lost Adams Diggings. The location of the Lost Adams Diggings is in one of the roughest and most treacherous places to get around in the Black Range we had ever been.

Book Black Range Tales

Download or read book Black Range Tales written by James A. McKenna and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1936, this book is a collection of sixteen stories recounting James (“Uncle Jimmie”) McKenna’s tales of prospecting, Indian Fights, exploration, town life and all the characters from the early days of the Black Range, the Mogollons, and the rest of the Gila Country of southwest New Mexico. The result is alternately humorous, poignant, amazing or insightful, and paints a vivid picture of a people who embodied the measured optimism of the American West. “Uncle Jimmie” blazed a trail to the Southwest in his youth, and his life for the next sixty years was filled with all the history-making adventure and treasure that his ardent nature craved. It was not always the treasure of gold, although gold was there. But there was life while it lasted, death when it came, a mystery-ridged land and courageous people to explore it. “THIS IS A GREAT BOOK! THE REAL THING IS RARE AND THERE’S NO MISTAKING IT.”—Commonweal “The greatness comes from McKenna’s magic blend of Celtic wit, thirst for life, and modesty about the enormous importance of his own adventures.”—Christian Science

Book The Secret

Download or read book The Secret written by Byron Preiss and published by ibooks. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.
