Book Hidden Beneath the Thorns

Download or read book Hidden Beneath the Thorns written by Gabriele M. Quinn and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-11-18 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the compelling memoir Hidden Beneath the Thorns, Ingeborg Tismer shares her fascinating journey of what it was like to be an ordinary German citizen during the Nazi regime. As told to her daughter, Gabriele Quinn, Ingeborg provides a glimpse into the world of a young woman who grew up during the reign of the Third Reich on her grandparents farm with a pacifist mother and rigidly strict father: a father, who in order to put bread on the table, was coerced into joining Hitlers private army, the SA. Interposed with historical chronicles, Ingeborg relays how at the age of ten, she joined the branch of Hitler youth for girls, thrilled to march to the beat of Nazi drums. But Ingeborgs grandparents resisted the Nazis whenever possible and hid Jewish families in a simple hillside dugout; aided by Russian laborers placed on their farm. As the Russians advanced upon Germany in January 1945, Inge's family farm was seized by the Soviets and turned into a Kommondantura, or Field Command Post. A fascinating relationship developed and Inge's family were protected from Russian abuse. Despite this, Ingeborg and the remainder of her family were forced to live within dusty piles of broken bricks, sickly smells, and hungry survivors in the remnants of post-war Berlin when all Germans had to leave the area east of the Oder River. Throughout the book, Ingeborgs story chronicles how Adolf Hitler was able to seize and mold an entire people into a machine of madness and how the sanity of the outside world finally brought it all to an end.

Book excerpt: This collection of poems encompasses the feelings of what it's like to lose one's self and break free from the confines of one's own mind and selfdestructive thoughts. It symbolizes the importance of memories, magical or destructive, and what it means to dream in ultraviolet technicolor radiance. This book is a collection of words meant to exude a spark within the reader's soul and Anaise Rose's words will help each reader find their own true light and peace hidden beneath the shadows. With each broken heart and fragile mind, readers will embark on a journey to help repair themselves and become whole again. Scars may remain, but it's important to know that the road each person travels down, with its concrete cracks and broken lines, signifies each individual journey taken to get to the other side. It will lead you to the picket fenced gardens filled with roses waiting to be plucked and taken on a new adventure.

Book excerpt: In the compelling memoir Hidden Beneath the Thorns, Ingeborg Timer shares her fascinating journey of what it was like to be an ordinary German citizen during the Nazi regime. As told to her daughter, Gabriele Quinn, Ingeborg provides a glimpse into the world of a young woman who grew up on her grandparents' farm with a pacifist mother and rigidly strict father; a father, who to put bread on the table, was coerced into joining Hitler's private army, the SA. Reaching the age of ten, it became mandatory for all children to enroll in the Hitler Youth. Ingeborg, like most children, enthusiastically joined to become part of an exciting organization. She was thrilled to march to the beat of Nazi drums. But Ingeborg's family detested the Nazis and disliked her compulsory membership. In the face of this, her family resisted the Third Reich whenever they could. Aided by Russian laborers placed on their farm, one of these acts was to hide persecuted Jewish families in a simple hillside dugout. Yet, despite all good deeds, Ingeborg and the remainder of her family lost everything, including their farm, and were forced to live as refugees within dusty piles of broken bricks, sickly smells, and hungry survivors in the ruins of post-war Berlin. Interjected with historical chronicles, Ingeborg's story relates how Adolf Hitler was able to mold an entire people into a machine of madness and how the sanity of the outside world finally brought it all to an end.
