This book was released on 2014-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development of hybrid genotypes/ high yielded varieties more demand to fill the gap between food production and human population.Heterosis and Combining Ability Studies in Brassica napus leads to develop the hybrid genotypes/ Varieties which will be produce more seed yield, plant biomass(fodder or Saag), oil contents, protein contents and canola type traits for good health. In an experiment Sixteen genotypes were crossed among eleven lines and five testers in Line x Tester mating design (11x5),55 F1 were made and Data of hybrids and their parents were recorded for various seed yield and yield contributing traits. The results revealed that highly significant values were found in line x tester interaction for all the traits except the character days taken to 50% maturity. The estimates of SCA variance was noticed higher than GCA variance in all the recorded traits. The significant potence ratio were explained that the transformation of desirable gene in all the recorded traits of genotypes in dominance type of gene action for the development of hybrids or varieties in Brassica napus."

Book Combining Ability Analysis of Some Brassica Napus Genotypes

Download or read book Combining Ability Analysis of Some Brassica Napus Genotypes written by Muhammad Zahir Ahsan and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development of hybrid genotypes more need to increase the edible oil production and it qulity traits because of increasing the human population. Eight genotypes (Golarchi, Star, Range, DGL, Ayub2000, Hybripol, Lagena and BA0714.) were crossed in Line x Tester mating design (5x3). and their F1s were sown in field in RCBD with three replications. Data of 15 F1s and their parents were recorded for various seed yield and yield contributing traits. The data were statistically analyzed for analysis of variance and LxT analysis. The ANOVA for combining ability were revealed that the mean sum of squares due to lines were significant for all traits except days to 90% flowering and for testers the mean sum of square were significant for all traits except days to 90% flowering and 1000 seed weight. Highly significant results were found in LxT interaction for all traits. The estimates of SCA variance was noticed higher than GCA variance in all traits. The contributions of lines as compared to testers were greater in case of all the traits of Brassica napus."

Book Heterosis and Combining Ability in Brassica Using Diallel Crosses

Download or read book Heterosis and Combining Ability in Brassica Using Diallel Crosses written by Naushad Ali Turi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book in hand provide baseline information on rapeseed as important edible oil crop in Pakistan. Edible oil is very important for the development and maintenance of human body. Due to rapid rise in population and living standard of people, Pakistan is facing huge shortage of edible oil for a long time, because the domestic production of edible oil can not meet the requirement of residents. Currently a gigantic amount of about Rs. 224 billion is spent on its import to fulfill the domestic need of the nations. The book can be an asset for the edible oil researchers, policy makers, agriculture students and allied stalk holders. It should in each and every library around the country.

Book Hybrid Cultivar Development

Download or read book Hybrid Cultivar Development written by S.S. Banga and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-10-13 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heterosis breeding based on male sterility has become established in many field crops and has been credited with high productivity. This book presents an update on the advent and promise of hybrids with comprehensive coverage of theoretical and applied aspects of heterosis breeding. Its principal elements are the hybrid advantage, pollination control mechanisms and finally the production of hybrid seeds. Individual crop specialists present in-depth analyses of intricacies involved in the development of hybrids of rice, wheat, maize, barley, pearl millet, sorghum, cotton, sunflower, rapeseed-mustard, castor, pigeonpea, tomato, onion, cole crops, peppers, and melon. The book will be used by researchers, teachers and students of botany, genetics, horticulture and plant breeding.

Book Breeding Oilseed Brassicas

Download or read book Breeding Oilseed Brassicas written by Kuldeep S. Labana and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present status of rapeseed-mustard crops as the third most important source of edible oils is attributable to the success of plant breeders and associate researchers in developing high yielding varieties with improved quality and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. However, the need to maximize the production gains and quality at lower economic costis greater than ever before. "Breeding Oilseed Brassicas" was thus conceived to review the past accomplishments in order to identify research gaps and suggest ways and means to meet the challenge of sustainable productivity upgradation. Theoretical and applied aspects ofbreeding, genetics, cytogenetics, crop physiology, and biotechnology are covered. The emphasis is on the application of theoretical knowledge to the solution of problems that confront the Brassica breeders.

Download or read book Industrial Crops written by Von Mark V. Cruz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume on Industrial Crop Breeding will be part of the series, Handbook of Plant Breeding. This volume will focus on the emerging area of plant breeding for sustainable production of transportation fuels and bio based products using the current advances in the field. The book is scheduled to consist of a total number of 30 chapters divided into four sections. The sections will emphasize crops being considered for different challenge areas including oil crops for biodiesel; sugar, starch and cellulosic crops for biofuel; crops for bio products and issues and future prospects. A chapter introducing the first three sections will also be included. Outstanding scientists for each crop species are proposed as senior authors, who may invite co-authors to contribute part of a chapter to provide additional expertise or perspective. The proposed authors will represent various national and international institutions to get a more diverse view on the topic and somehow get a global view on the common issues that researchers on industrial crops are facing. The book will comprise primarily of specific issues, available germplasm, breeding techniques, and potential geographical areas of production pertaining to individual crops being considered for industrial uses. We hope to encourage the proposed authors of new crops to provide an estimate of the crop readiness for commercial development and discuss the limitations. This book will be will be of interest and envisioned to serve as an updated reference to researchers in both academic and industrial setting, to students and teachers of plant breeding and to policy makers who are looking for alternative solutions to dependency on imported petroleum products.
