Book Heterogeneous Objects

Download or read book Heterogeneous Objects written by Raphaël Pirenne and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heterogeneous objects provides various essays that explore the encounter of photography with other media since the 1960s. The essays offer new ways of thinking about photography beyond modernist notions of medium specificity and autonomy based upon the idea that a photograph does not rely on a coherent system of codes but is almost always encountered as a fragmented, partial object. Addressing recent debates in art history and photography theory, film studies, and media theory, the contributions cover a broad array of approaches, relating photography to issues of the panorama, surveillance, sculpture, transformation and processuality, and the development of new media categories. Rather than conceiving of photography as a medium, the aim is to reconsider the photograph as a historically, theoretically, and culturally embedded heterogeneous object that is always related to, in contact with, or shaped by other media.

Book Rapid Prototyping Technology

Download or read book Rapid Prototyping Technology written by Md Enamul Hoque and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-09-26 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern engineering often deals with customized design that requires easy, low-cost and rapid fabrication. Rapid prototyping (RP) is a popular technology that enables quick and easy fabrication of customized forms/objects directly from computer aided design (CAD) model. The needs for quick product development, decreased time to market, and highly customized and low quantity parts are driving the demand for RP technology. Today, RP technology also known as solid freeform fabrication (SFF) or desktop manufacturing (DM) or layer manufacturing (LM) is regarded as an efficient tool to bring the product concept into the product realization rapidly. Though all the RP technologies are additive they are still different from each other in the way of building layers and/or nature of building materials. This book delivers up-to-date information about RP technology focusing on the overview of the principles, functional requirements, design constraints etc. of specific technology.

Book Engineering Psychology and Human Performance

Download or read book Engineering Psychology and Human Performance written by Christopher D. Wickens and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forming connections between human performance and design, this new edition of Engineering Psychology and Human Performance examines human–machine interaction. The book is organized directly from a psychological perspective of human information processing, and chapters correspond to the flow of information as it is processed by a human being—from the senses, through the brain, to action—rather than from the perspective of system components or engineering design concepts. Upon completing this book, readers will be able to identify how human ability contributes to the design of technology; understand the connections within human information processing and human performance; challenge the way they think about technology’s influence on human performance; and show how theoretical advances have been, or might be, applied to improving human–machine interactions. This new edition includes the following key features: A new chapter on research methods Sections on interruption management and distracted driving as cogent examples of applications of engineering psychology theory to societal problems A greatly increased number of references to pandemics, technostress, and misinformation New applications Amplified emphasis on readability and commonsense examples Updated and new references throughout the text This book is ideal for psychology and engineering students, as well as practitioners in engineering psychology, human performance, and human factors. The text is also supplemented by online resources for students and instructors.

Book Rapid Prototyping

Download or read book Rapid Prototyping written by Patri K. Venuvinod and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the dawn of civilization, mankind has been engaged in the conception and manufacture of discrete products to serve the functional needs of local customers and the tools (technology) needed by other craftsmen. In fact, much of the progress in civilization can be attributed to progress in discrete product manufacture. The functionality of a discrete object depends on two entities: form, and material composition. For instance, the aesthetic appearance of a sculpture depends upon its form whereas its durability depends upon the material composition. An ideal manufacturing process is one that is able to automatically generate any form (freeform) in any material. However, unfortunately, most traditional manufacturing processes are severely constrained on all these counts. There are three basic ways of creating form: conservative, subtractive, and additive. In the first approach, we take a material and apply the needed forces to deform it to the required shape, without either adding or removing material, i. e. , we conserve material. Many industrial processes such as forging, casting, sheet metal forming and extrusion emulate this approach. A problem with many of these approaches is that they focus on form generation without explicitly providing any means for controlling material composition. In fact, even form is not created directly. They merely duplicate the external form embedded in external tooling such as dies and molds and the internal form embedded in cores, etc. Till recently, we have had to resort to the 'subtractive' approach to create the form of the tooling.

Book Essay on Transcendental Philosophy

Download or read book Essay on Transcendental Philosophy written by Salomon Maimon and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02-11 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay on Transcendental Philosophy presents the first English translation of Salomon Maimon's principal work, originally published in Berlin in 1790. In this book, Maimon seeks to further the revolution in philosophy wrought by Kant's Critique of Pure Reason by establishing a new foundation for transcendental philosophy in the idea of difference. Kant judged Maimon to be his most profound critic, and the Essay went on to have a decisive influence on the course of post-Kantian German Idealism. A more recent admirer was Gilles Deleuze who drew on Maimon's Essay in constructing his own philosophy of difference. This long-overdue translation makes Maimon's brilliant analysis and criticism of Kant's philosophy accessible to an English readership for the first time. The text includes a comprehensive introduction, a glossary, translators' notes, a bibliography of writings on Maimon and an index. It also includes translations of correspondence between Maimon and Kant and a letter Maimon wrote to a Berlin journal clarifying the philosophical position of the essay, all of which bring the book's context alive for the modern reader.

Book The State of Deformation in Earthlike Self Gravitating Objects

Download or read book The State of Deformation in Earthlike Self Gravitating Objects written by Wolfgang H. Müller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-30 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth continuum mechanics analysis of the deformation due to self-gravitation in terrestrial objects, such as the inner planets, rocky moons and asteroids. Following a brief history of the problem, modern continuum mechanics tools are presented in order to derive the underlying field equations, both for solid and fluid material models. Various numerical solution techniques are discussed, such as Runge-Kutta integration, series expansion, finite differences, and (adaptive) FE analysis. Analytical solutions for selected special cases, which are worked out in detail, are also included. All of these methods are then applied to the problem, quantitative results are compared, and the pros and cons of the analytical solutions and of all the numerical methods are discussed. The book culminates in a multi-layer model for planet Earth according to the PREM Model (Preliminary Earth Model) and in a viscoelastic analysis of the deformation problem, all from the viewpoint of rational continuum theory and numerical analysis.
