Book Hetergeneous Catalytic Oxidation of Anthracene to Anthraquinone in the Vapor Phase

Download or read book Hetergeneous Catalytic Oxidation of Anthracene to Anthraquinone in the Vapor Phase written by Corneille Osburn Strother and published by . This book was released on 1931 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several years Dr. Harry N. Holmes has conducted research in this laboratory on the surface phenomena exhibited by porous solids. These have particularly dealt with adsorption by the so-called inorganic gels. The subject of catalysis, being a part of colloidal chemistry, was a natural outgrowth of these studies. Both for theoretical and practical reasons catalysis is such an important field that any addition to the mass of material association with it, however small, is significant. Consequently the research described in this thesis was carried out under his direction., according to Freundlich, is the concentration of a substance at an interface in accordance with the Gibbs Adsorption Law, which states that any substance that lowers interfacial tension will concentrate at the interface. From the shape of the adsorption curve it can readily be seen that adsorption processes are relatively more efficient in more dilute solutions and should find extensive use in cases where small amounts of dissolved material have to be removed from large volumes of solution. Adsorption by means of various charcoals, fullers earth, kaolin and similar substances has long been commercially for removing small amounts of coloring matter and other objectionable impurities from sugar sirups, fatty oils, and petroleum products.

Book Partial Catalytic Oxidation of Several Organic Compounds in the Vapor Phase with Temperature Control

Download or read book Partial Catalytic Oxidation of Several Organic Compounds in the Vapor Phase with Temperature Control written by Edward Noble Brown and published by . This book was released on 1932 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of the chamber process for the manufacture of sulfuric acid brought to the field of commercial inorganic chemistry what was probably the first large-scale application of the phenomenon of catalysis. In the field of organic chemistry it had been employed for thousands of years in the manufacture of intoxicating beverages, but it was not until the time of Berzelius that it was recognized as a distinct influence upon the speed of chemical reactions and was given its present name.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the advances in understanding the phenomena that occur on a catalyst surface, much of the successful catalyst development and use continues to be half science and half art. The art resides in the practical knowledge of experts in the development and use of commercial catalysts-it comes with experience. Now the background needed to nurture t

Book Catalysis in Petrochemical Processes

Download or read book Catalysis in Petrochemical Processes written by M.S. Matar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of petrochemicals started some years ago with the simple addition reaction of water to propylene for the production of isopropyl alcohol. Currently, the petrochemical industry has become a multi-billion dollar enterprise which encompasses a wide field of chemical products. Almost all the basic organic reactions such as hydrogenation, alkylation, substitution, polymerization, etc. are utilized for the production of these chemicals. It may not, however, have been possible to establish this huge industry without the use of different catalysts. In other words, the great advancements in the catalytic area have supported the vast developments in the petrochemical field. In this book, we have adopted the idea of discussing the petrochemical industry from the point of view of reactants' activities and susceptibilities toward different catalysts. The book is thus classified according to the reaction type. This will eriable students and other users of the book to base their understanding of the petrochemical field on the fundamental principles learned in chemistry. How ever, the first chapter is aimed at establishing some basic facts on the petro chemical industry and its major uses. It discusses, without going into details, the raw materials used, the intermediates and the downstream products. The next eight chapters discuss in some detail the main reactions and the catalysts used for the production of chemicals and polymers from petroleum. The last chapter is devoted to a discussion of some of the practical techniques used in the catalytic field.

Book Sustainable Industrial Chemistry

Download or read book Sustainable Industrial Chemistry written by Fabrizio Cavani and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-22 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the need for sustainable process design and alternative reaction routes to reduce industry?s impact on the environment has gained vital importance. The book begins with a general overview of new trends in designing industrial chemical processes which are environmentally friendly and economically feasible. Specific examples written by experts from industry cover the possibilities of running industrial chemical processes in a sustainable manner and provide an up-to-date insight into the main concerns, e.g., the use of renewable raw materials, the use of alternative energy sources in chemical processes, the design of intrinsically safe processes, microreactor and integrated reaction/ separation technologies, process intensification, waste reduction, new catalytic routes and/or solvent and process optimization.

Book Catalytic Kinetics

Download or read book Catalytic Kinetics written by Dmitry Yu Murzin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-04 with total page 754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catalytic Kinetics: Chemistry and Engineering, Second Edition offers a unified view that homogeneous, heterogeneous, and enzymatic catalysis form the cornerstone of practical catalysis. The book has an integrated, cross-disciplinary approach to kinetics and transport phenomena in catalysis, but still recognizes the fundamental differences between different types of catalysis. In addition, the book focuses on a quantitative chemical understanding and links the mathematical approach to kinetics with chemistry. A diverse group of catalysts is covered, including catalysis by acids, organometallic complexes, solid inorganic materials, and enzymes, and this fully updated second edition contains a new chapter on the concepts of cascade catalysis. Finally, expanded content in this edition provides more in-depth discussion, including topics such as organocatalysis, enzymatic kinetics, nonlinear dynamics, solvent effects, nanokinetics, and kinetic isotope effects. Fully revised and expanded, providing the latest developments in catalytic kinetics Bridges the gaps that exist between hetero-, homo- and enzymatic-catalysis Provides necessary tools and new concepts for researchers already working in the field of catalytic kinetics Written by internationally-renowned experts in the field Examples and exercises following each chapter make it suitable as an advanced course book
