This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As usual Lowell Green, one of Canada's best selling authors and the Country's most honoured broadcaster, rushes in where angels fear to tread! His latest book, (his sixth best seller) "Here's proof only we conservatives have our heads screwed on straight" makes you shake your head with disbelief as writes about the truly magnificent screw-ups the granola-crunching, tree hugging, thug huggers have plunged us into over the years. "Thank heavens," he says, "that with people like Churchill, Thatcher, Reagan, Giuliani, Merkel, Harris and hopefully Harper and maybe even Cameron, there's almost always been a clear-thinking, fearless, principled Conservative or conservative thinker to rescue us from left wing lunacy and economic chaos." Fresh from the incredible success of his most recent book, "Mayday! Mayday! Curb immigration. Stop multiculturalism, or it's the end of the Canada we know," Green's latest work unleashes a firestorm of wit, wisdom and common sense that is bound to delight, titillate, entertain and educate all those who don't believe group hugs and long walks on lonely beaches with our enemies will solve the world's problems. If there is any doubt in anyone's mind whether they should buy "Here's Proof," there's a dandy little quiz in the first few pages that provides guidance and hopefully assistance to prevent severe trauma to delicate liberal and socialist sensitilities!

Book excerpt: First published in 1996 immediately following the narrow referendum victory by the Quebec Federalists, Death in October has become a Canadian classic. Out of print for many years, the book has become a collector's item, new copies selling in some quarters for well over $100! At the urging of his many fans and readers Lowell has updated and added chapters to this book and as you can see has re-printed a much more modern hard cover version. What many will find interesting is that although written more than 15 years ago, the relationship between Quebec and the rest of Canada is startlingly similar to what it was when this book was first written. In fact, writes Lowell, the premise of the plot line in this book is even more probably today that it was in 1996. Most agree that Canadians today are far less sympathetic to Quebec's demands today than ever before.

Terrorists-for-hire have created a weapon that can induce earthquakes and cause dormant volcanoes to erupt. One terrifying side-effect of the weapon is that prior to the devastation, the vibrations drive ordinary people to suicide and violence. A wave of madness begins sweeping the country beginning with a mass shooting in Congress. Joe Ledger and his team go on a wild hunt to stop the terrorists and uncover the global super-power secretly funding them. At every step the stakes increase as it becomes clear that the end-game of this campaign of terror is igniting the Yellowstone caldera, the super-volcano that could destroy America. Deep Silence pits Joe Ledger against terrorists with bleeding-edge science weapons, an international conspiracy, ancient technologies from Atlantis and Lemuria, and an escalating threat that could crack open the entire Earth.

Book The Death of Expertise

Download or read book The Death of Expertise written by Tom Nichols and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology and increasing levels of education have exposed people to more information than ever before. These societal gains, however, have also helped fuel a surge in narcissistic and misguided intellectual egalitarianism that has crippled informed debates on any number of issues. Today, everyone knows everything: with only a quick trip through WebMD or Wikipedia, average citizens believe themselves to be on an equal intellectual footing with doctors and diplomats. All voices, even the most ridiculous, demand to be taken with equal seriousness, and any claim to the contrary is dismissed as undemocratic elitism. Tom Nichols' The Death of Expertise shows how this rejection of experts has occurred: the openness of the internet, the emergence of a customer satisfaction model in higher education, and the transformation of the news industry into a 24-hour entertainment machine, among other reasons. Paradoxically, the increasingly democratic dissemination of information, rather than producing an educated public, has instead created an army of ill-informed and angry citizens who denounce intellectual achievement. When ordinary citizens believe that no one knows more than anyone else, democratic institutions themselves are in danger of falling either to populism or to technocracy or, in the worst case, a combination of both. An update to the 2017breakout hit, the paperback edition of The Death of Expertise provides a new foreword to cover the alarming exacerbation of these trends in the aftermath of Donald Trump's election. Judging from events on the ground since it first published, The Death of Expertise issues a warning about the stability and survival of modern democracy in the Information Age that is even more important today.

Book Practical Ethics

  • ISBN : 1139496891

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thirty years, Peter Singer's Practical Ethics has been the classic introduction to applied ethics. For this third edition, the author has revised and updated all the chapters and added a new chapter addressing climate change, one of the most important ethical challenges of our generation. Some of the questions discussed in this book concern our daily lives. Is it ethical to buy luxuries when others do not have enough to eat? Should we buy meat from intensively reared animals? Am I doing something wrong if my carbon footprint is above the global average? Other questions confront us as concerned citizens: equality and discrimination on the grounds of race or sex; abortion, the use of embryos for research and euthanasia; political violence and terrorism; and the preservation of our planet's environment. This book's lucid style and provocative arguments make it an ideal text for university courses and for anyone willing to think about how she or he ought to live.

Book What Happened to America

Download or read book What Happened to America written by Cecil M. Bryar Sr. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To the younger generations if you vote, you must read my book. Don't vote. Read my book, then vote. We all must be on the same page. Read between the lines. Don't just read it; understand each statement. I have lived through all the damage from a country where people were happy and employed. When freedom was a reality, a few years ago, I found out about a brother I had in Canada. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know him. He was a successful man who raised a family of six. This man gave me the information about my mother, Marie Delina Corrine LeBlanc. She was born in Fox Creek, Westmorland County, in Canada. Wow, what a family tree. My mother's family side during 1990 US census has family census 42,500 just on the LeBlanc side. I was raised in Connecticut, and my father was a union carpenter in Hartford, Connecticut. I was the baby among eight children; what an experience growing up. Never mind that. Anyway, I always remained neutral, believing what my parents had taught me. The government is here to provide the employment opportunity so you could work and provide for the government in the form of taxes. This system worked well for the majority of people. Anyway, this book is about the last forty years and a little about the 1897 1929 era, what led up to the recession of the thirties, how long it took to just get people going again, and the systems that were designed so people would have safety nets. So no one experienced again what they went through in that era. Those people went through hell; they were some very resilient people. Anyway, in 2012, I saw a familiar name running for president. Knowing what this man did in Massachusetts, I decided to start writing. I made a bunch of fliers and started to hand these out to people randomly, explaining what I knew to be true about what he had done to the people of Massachusetts. It was okay for him to outsource jobs, force people to buy insurance, and do everything possible to benefit the conglomerates and millionaires, but his idea of helping the people by outsourcing jobs was what was best. As we know, this does nothing to benefit the people in their daily lives. During all my research, I got mad and sent a letter to the White House. Much to my surprise, three weeks later, I received a response from the White House. Wow! They actually responded. So as time went on, I kept writing. I wrote a two-page short story I titled "Two Recessions." I, in turn, mailed this to the White House. About three months later, I got another response. Wow! Someone is actually paying attention to the citizens of America. For thirty-five years, I have waited for a president to do something to reverse the effects of the North American Accord. Thanks, President Obama, for the action you took to reverse the damage from this act that Ronald Reagan created, which has been devastating to the working-class people's lives. Families were destroyed, farms were destroyed, and factories closed. Hey, how do we, the people, provide for our families? No one had any solutions, so the safety nets that had been created by our ancestors stretched to the point of breaking. So if you want to know what happened to America, read my book. I have lived through all the damage. From the day of the speech about the North American Accord, everyone thought it had no effect until the signing. Wrong. Look back in history; the truth is there. I am a simple person. I have made my living as an auto technician for twenty-five years, six of them as a state motor vehicle emissions inspector, and this gave me the advantage I needed to keep my head above water. If you are mad about what is going on today, look, read, and understand the information that is in this book. If you don't believe it, do the research I have done. Once again, I am an offspring of two families with four hundred years of American history. Everyone is wondering why our deficit is growing. Well, for forty years that we have been outsourcin

Book Tip and the Gipper

Download or read book Tip and the Gipper written by Chris Matthews and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestseller about the historic dealings between Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill—“A superb tribute to the neglected art of compromise” (Daily News (New York)). Tip and the Gipper is an “entertaining and insightful” (The Wall Street Journal) history of a time when two great political opponents served together for the benefit of the country. Chris Matthews was an eyewitness to this story as top aide to Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill, who waged a principled war of political ideals with President Ronald Reagan from 1980 to 1986. Together, the two men became one of history’s most celebrated political pairings—the epitome of how ideological opposites can get things done. When Reagan was elected to the presidency in a landslide victory over Jimmy Carter, Speaker O’Neill was thrust into the national spotlight as the highest-ranking leader of the Democratic Party—the most visible and respected challenger to President Reagan’s agenda of cutting the size of government programs and lowering tax rates. Together, the two leaders fought over the major issues of the day—welfare, taxes, covert military operations, and social security—but found their way to agreements that reformed taxes, saved Social Security, and, their common cause, set a course toward peace in Northern Ireland. Through it all they maintained respect for each other’s positions and worked to advance the country rather than obstruct progress. At the time of congressional gridlock, Tip and the Gipper stands as model behavior worthy of study by journalists, academics, and students of the political process for years to come. “This book is an invitation to join Tip and the Gipper in tall tales about how grand it was in the old country” (The Washington Post).
