Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Unconditional Love of Old Charlie What a beautiful and arresting story. In its utter simplicity, it declares and lays bare the unconditional love of the Father. Your words are so wonderfully simple. The one who believes that the truth of life in Christ is a mess of complicated rules and self-dedication will feel they are free-falling into life in the simplicity of these pages and the truth they contain. Thank you for writing it and quoting me. May it reach the multitudes. Blessing is on you and this little book. --Malcolm Smith Unconditional Love International malcolmsmith.org About everyone can relate to having an Old Charlie in their life. It could be a grandmother or a grandfather. Charlie was my first contact with unconditional love, and it took place in Ohio's Appalachian hills. I love the second spring, the beautiful colors of autumn, and the leaves taking on the beauty of flowers as the wind caresses my face, whispering, spring will be here before you know it. The heart of spring reminds me of the beautiful heart of a senior citizen we called Old Charlie. He unconditionally loved five naughty children who lived and worked on a tobacco farm along an old gravel road. He traveled in an old two-wheel lopsided cart, pulled by a grayish-white horse named Rocky. After enjoying this true story, you will agree most people can relate to having an Old Charlie in their life. Remembering the loving heart of this wise gentleman became my motivating force in writing this book. I am presenting this incredible truth and revealing two life-giving treasures that guarantee a more enjoyable now and an encouraging outlook for tomorrow. Every parent or grandparent should make this a gift to your children and grandchildren; we all need to know we are unconditionally loved. --Tommy Hawk Convention Speaker, Author, Pastor, Bible Teacher Tommyhawkministries.com 30

Book Here Comes Everybody

Download or read book Here Comes Everybody written by Clay Shirky and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2009-02-05 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the new future of involvement. Forming groups is easier than its ever been: unpaid volunteers can build an encyclopaedia together in their spare time, mistreated customers can join forces to get their revenge on airlines and high street banks, and one man with a laptop can raise an army to help recover a stolen phone. The results of this new world of easy collaboration can be both good (young people defying an oppressive government with a guerrilla ice-cream eating protest) and bad (girls sharing advice for staying dangerously skinny) but its here and, as Clay Shirky shows, its affecting well, everybody. For the first time, we have the tools to make group action truly a reality. And theyre going to change our whole world.

Book Life Between the Levees

Download or read book Life Between the Levees written by Melody Golding and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Donald T. Wright Award from the the Herman T. Pott National Inland Waterways Library, a special collection of the St. Louis Mercantile Library Life Between the Levees is a chronicle of first-person reflections and folklore from pilots who have dedicated their lives to the river. The stories are as diverse as the storytellers themselves, and the volume is full of drama, suspense, and a way of life a “landlubber” could never imagine. Although waterways and ports in the Mississippi corridor move billions of dollars of products throughout the US and foreign markets, in today's world those who live and work on land have little knowledge of the river and the people who work there. In ten years of interviewing, Melody Golding collected over one hundred personal narratives from men and women who worked and lived on “brown water,” our inland waterways. As photographer, she has taken thousands of photos, of which 130 are included, of the people and boats, and the rivers where they spend their time. The book spans generations of river life—the oldest pilot was born in 1917 and the youngest in 1987—and includes stories from the 1920s to today. The stories begin with the pilots who were “broke in” by early steamboat pilots who were on the river as far back as the late 1800s. The early pilots in this book witnessed the transition from steamboat to diesel boat, while the youngest grew up in the era of GPS and twenty-first-century technology. Among many topics, the pilots reflect movingly on the time spent away from home because of their career, a universal reality for all mariners. As many pilots say when they talk about the river, “I hate her when I’m with her, and I miss her when I’m gone.”
