Book Effect of Herbicide resistant Technology on Soybean Cyst Nematode and Weed Population Densities

Download or read book Effect of Herbicide resistant Technology on Soybean Cyst Nematode and Weed Population Densities written by Helen Elizabeth Mero-Macias and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first experiment, three seeds of each soybean variety were planted in cone-shaped plastic containers filled with 200 cm3 of SCN-infested soil. In the second experiment, treatments were a combination of soybean variety and each one of three herbicide treatments: premergence herbicide application, postemergence herbicide application and untreated control. Treatments were replicated six times and each experiment was conducted three times. After six weeks, total SCN number of females/root, eggs/female, reproductive factor and root weight were determined. Greenhouse studies confirmed the effect of SCN-resistant varieties on SCN population densities under field conditions, but also showed a SCN population density reduction for the glyphosate-resistant variety. Herbicide-resistant soybeans did not reduce SCN reproduction, except for Asgrow AG2901; therefore, SCN-susceptible, herbicide-resistant varieties may not be used in SCN-infested fields to reduce SCN egg population densities.

Book Studies on the Soybean Cyst Nematode Heterodera Glycines and Its Injury to Soybean Plants in Japan Classic Reprint

Download or read book Studies on the Soybean Cyst Nematode Heterodera Glycines and Its Injury to Soybean Plants in Japan Classic Reprint written by Minoru Ichinohe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies on the Soybean Cyst Nematode, Heterodera Glycines and Its Injury to Soybean Plants in Japan The yellow dwarf disease caused by the soybean-cyst nematode appears in fields toward the middle of July, about 2 months after sowing. It is characterized by severe retardation of growth, stunting, and yellowish appearance on the aerial parts of the plants. The foliage of the diseased plant falls off early. The plant bears only a few flowers, and a few seeds which are smaller in size and inferior in quality to the normal ones. The roots of affected plants bear many developed lateral rootlets and in most cases many fewer bacterial nodules than those of healthy plants. This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant-parasitic nematodes represent a substantial constraint on global food security by reducing the yield potential of all major crops, including soybean (Glycine max L.). The soybean cyst nematode (SCN) (Heterodera glycines I.) is widely distributed across all soybean production areas of the US, and is the major yield-limiting factor, especially in the Midwestern US. Double cropping (DC) is defined as producing more than one crop on the same parcel of land in a single growing season. Compared to conventional single annual crops, DC provides many advantages, including improving soil health, enhanced nutrient provisioning to plants, improvement of soil physical properties, control of erosion, decrease in tillage requirements, and enhanced profitability. In some double-cropping systems, soybean is planted following winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), and several reports suggest the potential of wheat to suppress SCN populations. Field trials were conducted from 2017 to 2018 to investigate the effect of wheat on SCN populations in double-cropping soybean. Nine fields with three levels of initial SCN populations (low, moderate, and high) were selected in Illinois. Wheat was planted in strips alternating with strips-maintained weed-free and under fallow over winter and early spring. Soybean was planted in all strips after the wheat harvest. Soybean cyst nematode egg densities were acquired at four time points: wheat establishment, post-wheat/pre-soybean, mid-soybean (R1 growth stage or beginning of flowering), and post-soybean harvest. Wheat strips reduced SCN egg densities compared with fallow strips at the R1 stage (−31.8%) and after soybean harvest (−32.7%). Field locations with noted SCN suppression were selected for a metagenomics study. The structure of fungal communities differed significantly between DC and fallow plots at soybean planting and after harvest (P
