For a generation overwhelmed not just by dust bunnies, but by bong water on the carpet, pee stains on the ceiling and vomit seemingly everywhere, Jolie Kerr dispenses cleaning advice free of judgment. . . . A Mrs. Beeton for the postcollege set.” —Penelope Green, The New York Times “Jolie Kerr really cuts through the grease and grime with her new book. I do what she tells me to do.” —Amy Sedaris The author of the hit column “Ask a Clean Person” offers a hilarious and practical guide to cleaning up life’s little emergencies Life is filled with spills, odors, and those oh-so embarrassing stains you just can’t tell your parents about. And let’s be honest: no one is going to ask Martha Stewart what to do when your boyfriend barfs in your handbag. Thankfully, Jolie Kerr has both staggering cleaning knowledge and a sense of humor. With signature sass and straight talk, Jolie takes on questions ranging from the basic—how do I use a mop? —to the esoteric—what should I do when bottles of homebrewed ginger beer explode in my kitchen? My Boyfriend Barfed in My Handbag proves that even the most nightmarish cleaning conundrums can be solved with a smile, the right supplies, and a little music.

Book The Limits of Performance in the French Romantic Theatre

Download or read book The Limits of Performance in the French Romantic Theatre written by Susan McCready and published by Durham Modern Languages. This book was released on 2007 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume analyzes major French plays of the 1830s, focusing on their theatricality, and on the ways in which they expose the workings of the theater rather than conceal them. Through an examination of performance within these plays, the study posits that the stage is a privileged site of demonstration, a literal "proving ground" that lends a physical reality to abstract values announced in the text and shared or questioned by the audience. Negotiating between the literary study of drama and performance theory, this work breaks new ground in nineteenth-century theater scholarship while proposing a fresh direction in the study of text and performance. The Limits of Performance challenges conventional wisdom, offering a novel take on the mal du siècle, that thematic hardy perennial of French Romanticism and the nineteenth century in general, combined with eminently readable and, therefore, compelling analysis of plays - a thought-provoking addition to work in the field (Glyn Hambrook, Modern and Contemporary France, November 2008).

She's left her husband in LA and moved to New York for her dream job as a marketing researcher at one of the world's most prestigious firms. But after only five weeks, she's laid off. Now Iris is in a new town with no job, has a divorce on the horizon and only one friend to speak of-a wild-child named Val. When Val's twin sister Vickie asks Iris to spy on her possibly-cheating husband, Iris is desperate (and poor) enough to agree. Soon she has a whole new business on her hands - spying on men for the doubting women in their lives. Things get complicated when Vickie's husband Steve catches on to the fact that their coincidental meetings aren't coincidental at all. Not to mention how Steve makes her heart race. A funny, heart-wrenching romantic comedy about starting over and coming to terms with the gray areas of falling in love, It's About Your Husband marks the sparkling debut of novelist Lauren Lipton.

Book excerpt: Classic comedy routines and individual gags have been around for many hundreds of years, probably thousands; the best of these ribticklers make their merry way through theater, circus, film and television. The challenge to comedians has always been to adapt familiar material in a way that emphasizes their personal style and outlook. The many routines and gags cited in this illustrated history are lovingly deconstructed to show how they have been shaped to suit different eras and performers. These tried and true laugh-provokers are indestructible. Through all the remakes, revivals, recycles and revamps, they have survived robustly to the present day. As these timeless comedy gems are traced to their beginnings and followed through the years, readers are taken on a mirthful journey from Keystone to Zombieland.

Book Vampire Husband and the American Justice

Download or read book Vampire Husband and the American Justice written by Paru Shiva and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about a woman who had come to America from Kashmir India. She had no knowledge about American culture or American Justice System. She was married in India and her husband brought her to America. In America her husband started abusing her. Being culturally abound, she kept taking abuse on daily basis and kept lying about her bruises and cuts to those who were asking her questions about her injuries. Abuse got worst to the extent that one day her husband tried to kill her. She gained her consciousness after couple of hours when her husband decided to dump her body in the park. Somehow in the morning she managed to escape with her two children. She went to a woman's shelter where she lived for six months. In the shelter they insisted that she had to go to the court to get restraining order for her safety. In that process, her children were taken by the court and were given to that abusive man from whom they had a narrow escape. She was forced to pay child support when she had not taken even a one cent from her home or from her husband after she left. Her two children were given to their father because she was going to school. Judge punished her and her two children for trying to establish their life. Her Children suffered the most because of the Justice System. I wrote this book for two reasons One reason is to tell my children especially my son that I am very sorry for taking my case to American Justice System because his father has kept him in fear. Even my son is adult now but his father is still treating my son like he was treating me and my son is kept in a lot of fear, stress and extreme tension. His father didn't let him complete his education. If he had encouraged my son to complete his education, then he wouldn't be able to control my son's life. That is tearing my heart every day. And second reason is that I want to help a Battered Woman and their children by telling them my story. I was a very private person but that didn't help me. Every battered woman of this country should know that when a man hit his wife is not love. It is a danger sign figure out on time about safety zones for self and for children. My story will guide them to be strong enough to help their children.
