Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asia in the past nurtured great civilisations and cultures, some of which withstood the onslaughts of the mighty West. After suffering from the evils of colonial rule, Asia today is poised to occupy the centre stage of the world arena, with India, China and Japan playing leading role. In this context, it is all the more necessary for college and university students in Asia and the west to acquaint themselves with the history of Asia. Hence this book. The book is different from others of this genre, as it connects the ancient and medieval Asia with the modern world. It ideals with the history of each country in its geographical setting with the interaction and impact of neighbouring countries. Early migrations, settlements, formation of kingdoms and empires, socio-economic aspects of Islamic conquests and the advent of Western powers are all accounted for. The modern period (up to 2004) is treated in a detailed manner covering topics like colonisation, impact of Western civilisation, the rise of nationalism and the achievement of independence. The current history highlights subversion of democracies, ushering in of military rule, ethnic conflicts, movements for the restoration of democracy, oppression of minorities, economic issues, nuclear proliferation and the war on terror -- all in a fascinating manner -- with maps, bibliography, and an index to stimulate reader's interest.

Book Warfare in Pre British India 1500BCE to 1740CE

Download or read book Warfare in Pre British India 1500BCE to 1740CE written by Kaushik Roy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-03 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive survey of warfare in India up to the point where the British began to dominate the sub-continent. It discusses issues such as how far was the relatively bloodless nature of pre-British Indian warfare the product of stateless Indian society? How far did technology determine the dynamics of warfare in India? Did warfare in this period have a particular Indian nature and was it ritualistic? The book considers land warfare including sieges, naval warfare, the impact of horses, elephants and gunpowder, and the differences made by the arrival of Muslim rulers and by the influx of other foreign influences and techniques. The book concludes by arguing that the presence of standing professional armies supported by centralised bureaucratic states have been underemphasised in the history of India.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides valuable insight on the history of India from ancient times to 1600 CE for Indians and non-Indians, and for the Indian Diaspora, which is estimated to be over 25 million, spreading across no less than 110 countries. The chapters cover many important aspects of history, from the ancient urban culture of the Indus Valley Civilization; Vedic Age's lasting legacy, Hinduism associated with the two great epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata; and the founding of Buddhism and Jainism; to the Muslim conquests and the resultant Indo-Islamic and Mughal heritage. Indian influence travelled beyond its shores to Southeast Asia, China, Korea and Japan. The Angkor Wat, Borobudur and Prambanan temples reflect the cultural impact of the early Indian Diaspora. The famous Chinese monk Xuanzang who journeyed to Nalanda to study at that great University wrote extensively about India. This book will kindle interest in research on tracing the origins of the Indian Diaspora and the ancient ties that linked India to the rest of the world.

Book THE BATTERED HINDU

Download or read book THE BATTERED HINDU written by TRILOKI NATH DHAR and published by Mohini publications . This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a readable history of India from 712 A.D. to August 1947. Quotable opinions about Hindu Civilization are followed by six collections of the verses of the HOLY QURAN for the readers to determine whether Muslims are a separate nation; whether the structure of a typical Muslim society is owing to class struggle as defined by Marx; why Communism failed to make a dent in Islamic societies and whether it is possible to live peaceably with Muslims. By the beginning of the eighth century A.D. Mussalmans ventured effective thrusts into Indian Sub-continent. Hindus were ruthlessly converted to Islam and within two centuries Hindu Civilization was wiped out of the entire region of Sindh. The Arabs learned from HINDUS the decimal system of writing numbers, logic, astronomy, architecture, medicine, and fine arts. Arabs made incursions into India for plundering and destroying places of worship of kafirs and collecting lawful war booty consisting of unimaginable wealth, prized women, and slaves. The events are presented without any emotional muck or pre-conceived notions. Muslim rule was characterized by compulsions, carnages, vandalism, and cataclysmic upheavals for the subject race, not for days or months, or years but from century to century. Muslim conquerors dashed from one corner to the other of the sub-continent. The natives dispossessed of nationality were under constant persecution scourged by calamities, epidemics, famines, and large-scale slaughters. As the attrition between Shia principalities of the south and Delhi Sultanates was taking different aspects Europeans came prowling through various sides for trade and foothold and Christian proselytism. Mughal emperors, Farruk Siyar and Shah Alam II transferred de jure sovereignty of India to the English. How Indian slaves were treated as “Jungli” wretches by the British is a tantalizing story. An English civil servant A.O.Humes laid the foundation of the Indian National Congress with the blessings of Lord Dufferin. Varied and mosaic political activities of the party accentuated communal fault lines which pulled apart appreciable chunks of land in the East and West as a separate homeland for Muslims. There are separate chapters on Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose. I desired to write a book for Hindus. Though I wrote some books and poetry but could not find time to write this book. In 2002 I suffered a serious accident and had to be hospitalized for a head injury and later for prostrate resection. It took a long time to recover. I am really indebted to my wife who made it possible for me to write this book and complete it. I am thankful to my daughter Dr. Raj Shree Dhar, Professor of Mathematics, for her creative suggestions in publishing the manuscript. T.N. Dhar

This book was released on 2023-07-23 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of the Mirza Beg clan of the Mughal Dynasty. The Mughals, who were ethnic Turco-Mongol and descendants of Timur, or Tamerlane, came originally from Central Asia. They established the Mughal empire in India which lasted from 1526 to 1857, introducing many aspects of Persian culture into India, for example literature, painting, and architecture. Under the Great Mughal Emperors, the Mughals experienced expansion and prosperity. When the Mughals extended their reign to Jammu and Kashmir, some prominent Mughal families migrated to Jammu and Kashmir from Delhi and permanently settled in various parts of the region. The Mirza Beg clan of Udhyanpur was one such family that settled in the Udhyanpur region of the Chenab Valley, which was a famous and beautiful pass en route to Kishtwar, owing to its strategic location and picturesque beauty. The Timurid Legacy: A brief history of the Timurid Turco-Mongol Clan of Udhyanpur is written in an accessible style that should appeal to historians, academics, and non-academicians alike. Untold stories, historical facts, and detailed family trees and lineages of many families living in the region should help the reader navigate through the glorious past of this influential Turco-Mongol Clan of Udhyanpur.
